From the mouth of a tigers board member. Madge asked the club about Folau over the off season and it was an unequivical NO. The chairman is a lawyer and a businessman and knows its anrgument he doesent want to be involved in given many players and supporters are religious but the club will not be signing Folau

There was an article saying there was drama with a board member leaving anyone know anything about that?

I’m no lawyer but if a nrl club gave him a contract think it would be hard for nrl to refuse. He’s no criminal. He’s a footballer who cares about all the other crap.

He’s done nothing wrong at the nrl as yet.


It was Mick Lubinskas - he didn't leave - he was ousted from the board. The conspiracy theory is that Mick who is very pro magpies stated at the AGM that there was no way Wests Magpies would be re branded as Wests Tigers in NSW Cup or RMC while he was there. A week later he was ousted from the board of Wests Tigers and also as chairman of WS Magpies. There has been no official announcement from WT, WSM or Wests Ahfield as to why he was ousted.

Sounds like the Board got it right to me.

Thought we had got past that.

We are not a 50/50 JV, not even close, Balmain haven’t paid anything for a long time, Wests own 90%, could’ve been 100% as Balmain pay nothing. So that is why we have Wests Magpies as a reserve grade team

It's not Western suburbs or Balmain any longer
It's Wests Tigers and has been for almost 20 years
I don't care who owns the joint
I followed Balmain until they merged with Western suburbs
Now I follow Weststigers
It could be owned by Kylie Minogue for all I care
Who owns it is irrelevant to a supporter
Who really thinks about the owner of a club when games are being played
As far as I am concerned Balmain doesn't exist any more
Nor dose Western suburbs
All grades should be known as Wests Tigers
They are still owned by the same people
I don't even mind the fact that they wear predominantly wests colours
To me it's the Name that we all associate with
I myself would like to thank the Wester suburbs arm of our club for saving us all from oblivion
Some of the behaviour from the hierarchy over the years has been nothing more than childish
We are now one club
And we should act like it

I'd prefer Western Suburbs survived along with the likes of Norths and Newtown in the NSWRL. I dont see the importance of having all grades under the same name. Just as many clubs dont have that as clubs that do.

It's not the same because Magpies still own Wests Tigers. Norths and Newtown do not own a senior club, they feed into the NRL by the graces of other NRL clubs.

All clubs that have a different brand in NSW Cup, don't actually own or run that club. Blacktown Workers used to funnel players into the Panthers but now they've rebranded themselves Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles. Mounties have only been the Bulldogs feeder club for 2 seasons?

The Dragons have a single combined NSW Cup side.

I think having a separate Magpies or Balmain reserves side only serves to promote any lingering merger factional issues, as old or minor as they may indeed be.

In fact I find it very surprising that people can be so vocal about needing to have a single home ground, for our identity as much as anything, but happy to have one or more differently-branded feeder sides.

You make some good points , but I’ll argue the reason we have a Wests team , is the fact the nrl license is owned by Wests leagues , and there would be members , and stakeholders who would blow up delux about not having a team . Not members of the nrl club but members of Wests leagues , who the Wests board not the tigers board , have to answer to .
Not to be insulting , but until those people suffer natural attrition, as we are talking about advanced age men , with strong ideas built up over a lifetime , then it seems an easy solution .

But I agree , really we should be called Wests Tigers Group or something , lose anything resembling a Wests / Balmain divide . I just can’t see that happening tomorrow , so having a CC cup team named the magpies , when everyone knows it’s really 2nd grade Wests tigers , Ron Massey cup being 3rd grade Wests tigers , seems like. Storm in a tea cup . Eventually there will be a tiger in the signs of all these clubs , from Flemington to Ashfield , to rozelle . Which is fine by me . As long as the Tiger is massive and has a Wests written there . Because that’s the brand .

I went into a pub out Lidcombe way with the mrs last year. I had a WT jumper on. An old bloke shuffled over to us and mumbled "Magpie or Tiger?"
I told him "Old Magpie."
He mumbled "That's all right then" and shuffled off.
Dodged a bullet.

Yea that’s my point . Those blokes are the ones who are members at these clubs . And the magpies board is accountable , to them , for better or worse. And the want to keep thier job . It’s been 20 years though . I love reading Twitter or people with no idea , make comments about how fractured the club is , because from my understanding there’s mo fractures anymore , just a legacy of stupid decisions , we have to undo .

Anyone watching Panthers? Kikau and Liam Martin have been able to swing that game with their hard running. We are no chance until we improve our back row, they are so important in the modern game.

can't say I've ever seen Kikau run at a forward (am probably very well mistaken), always centres and halves....goes to show how well the panthers run their games.

Kikau is a grub. He's constantly trying to knock someone's head off. Cut your stupid hairdo as well, you look like a cassowary.

I think we have the players personally . Laurie and AD and Simpkin and brooks , is a very good spine . I’m more inclined to look at Staggs , Jordan Riki , Xavier Coates etc . Edge strike players .

The only player you’ve mentioned the Tigers have had discussions with is Coates, & I don’t think there is much chance of him coming. The Tigers are building fine & don’t need any panick signings that will cripple them in years to come like we have done in the past. I think the Tigers are more of a chance to sign Joey Manu than Reynolds with Laurie moving to the halves if needed.

Lubinskas was only trying to maintain the original agreement that was made when the JV started. That agreement was that both Balmain and Wests would both keep their identities in the next tier down from NRL. But hey as a club WT have failed at most things so why not fail at trying to keep the integrity of the original JV agreement as well.

Pretty sad if their gonna kill off their own club.

We want a butterfly not two caterpillars.

I was in a national park up near Cairns in about 2004 walking along a trail when this bird stood in front of me and the person with me said dont run just back up slowly and we will walk another path...I said why its only a bird,next thing as we started to move back this thing started hissing and making a real nasty sound...the guy with me said it must have had eggs near where we were and deadset the thing frightened crap out of us the way it was sounding and moving...
not a real interesting story but read up about them and it tells you about their personalities and make up...

We are not a 50/50 JV, not even close, Balmain haven’t paid anything for a long time, Wests own 90%, could’ve been 100% as Balmain pay nothing. So that is why we have Wests Magpies as a reserve grade team

Totally agree Russ,the ONE great thing this JV has done is unite 2 traditional,historical clubs and their fans and members so we can still have a team and club to support in the NRL...most of us are on board with it....others should move on or get over it....

These comments do reflect the game that was just played because I was there live watching it. The kick that led to the try was fantastic. He has got it in him. But the 10 other kicks were terrible. Getting caught with the ball on last three times. He’s the halfback. He has to demand the ball in those positions. It’s his job to lead the team around , kick to the corners and get us repeat sets. He can’t do it consistently.

I watched the game again to see what his kicking game was like. It was really good. Douiehi's bombs were fantastic but he also put in the dud kick of the day. Brooks was the one putting in really good attacking kicks.

I you believe differently you didn't see it clearly live at the game. I suggest you re-watch the game and review your opinion.


The dud kick of the day was M'Bye at the end of the game,it was absolutely braindead.The only possible excuse i could give him is if he had an Inglis moment and thought 6 points was enough for a win or extra time

That was pretty bad but the game was over. Watch AD's attacking kick when we were close. Brooks gets these pretty good. AD stuffed it.

The game is not over until the final whistle - what the hell was he trying to do apart from add 6 points to our against figure - something we really needed. The forwards should have given him an uppercut.

Lubinskas was only trying to maintain the original agreement that was made when the JV started. That agreement was that both Balmain and Wests would both keep their identities in the next tier down from NRL. But hey as a club WT have failed at most things so why not fail at trying to keep the integrity of the original JV agreement as well.

Pretty sad if their gonna kill off their own club.

We want a butterfly not two caterpillars.

It's not Western suburbs or Balmain any longer
It's Wests Tigers and has been for almost 20 years
I don't care who owns the joint
I followed Balmain until they merged with Western suburbs
Now I follow Weststigers
It could be owned by Kylie Minogue for all I care
Who owns it is irrelevant to a supporter
Who really thinks about the owner of a club when games are being played
As far as I am concerned Balmain doesn't exist any more
Nor dose Western suburbs
All grades should be known as Wests Tigers
They are still owned by the same people
I don't even mind the fact that they wear predominantly wests colours

I'd prefer Western Suburbs survived along with the likes of Norths and Newtown in the NSWRL. I dont see the importance of having all grades under the same name. Just as many clubs dont have that as clubs that do.

It's not the same because Magpies still own Wests Tigers. Norths and Newtown do not own a senior club, they feed into the NRL by the graces of other NRL clubs.

All clubs that have a different brand in NSW Cup, don't actually own or run that club. Blacktown Workers used to funnel players into the Panthers but now they've rebranded themselves Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles. Mounties have only been the Bulldogs feeder club for 2 seasons?

The Dragons have a single combined NSW Cup side.

I think having a separate Magpies or Balmain reserves side only serves to promote any lingering merger factional issues, as old or minor as they may indeed be.

In fact I find it very surprising that people can be so vocal about needing to have a single home ground, for our identity as much as anything, but happy to have one or more differently-branded feeder sides.

You make some good points , but I’ll argue the reason we have a Wests team , is the fact the nrl license is owned by Wests leagues , and there would be members , and stakeholders who would blow up delux about not having a team . Not members of the nrl club but members of Wests leagues , who the Wests board not the tigers board , have to answer to .
Not to be insulting , but until those people suffer natural attrition, as we are talking about advanced age men , with strong ideas built up over a lifetime , then it seems an easy solution .

But I agree , really we should be called Wests Tigers Group or something , lose anything resembling a Wests / Balmain divide . I just can’t see that happening tomorrow , so having a CC cup team named the magpies , when everyone knows it’s really 2nd grade Wests tigers , Ron Massey cup being 3rd grade Wests tigers , seems like. Storm in a tea cup . Eventually there will be a tiger in the signs of all these clubs , from Flemington to Ashfield , to rozelle . Which is fine by me . As long as the Tiger is massive and has a Wests written there . Because that’s the brand .

I personally don't care from an allegiance POV, it just makes sense to me, in all efforts to unify the club and have a stable operation from head to toe, we don't have offshoots in the NSW Cup. As I said before, I see a correlation between single home ground and the name of the reserve grade side, in terms of both being an aspect of a single stable identity.

But then again, good football teams win at any ground in any conditions, and I'm not convinced a single home ground is even going to make that much of a difference, even if I think you go ahead and do it anyway.

re members - I'd be interested to know how many Wests Leagues members are league supporters. I'm a member of Wests Ashfield, by virtue of amalgamation with Balmain Leagues.
