1. Reynolds is a no go. Chronic injury, getting old (i.e. retirement contract) and isn't a stand out at a great team. Red flags everywhere. Did we learn nothing from McQueen?
2. Oates can't even get a run in Brisbane and you think he'll be good for us? Very lazy winger who's often out of position - just what we don't need.

We should go after some hard working, solid players. Jeez Corey Thompson and Paul Momorovski would be nice to have right now. So glad we got rid of two hard working, high effort players for what we have now

I've seen multiple people bring this up now, but I just happened to respond to your post, so this isn't a personal shot at you:

In the last five seasons, this is how many games Adam Reynolds has played (not including all five rounds he's played this year🙂

2020 - 23 out of the 23 games that Souths played last year (less games due to COVID)
2019 - 25 out of 27 games
2018 - 24 out of 27 games
2017 - 21 out of 24 games

So not counting this year, in the last four years he's played 93 out of a possible 101 games. He's turning up 92% of the time. He also played all finals games in 2018-2020 that Souths featured in (they missed the finals in 2017,) so he's also there when it matters.

Brooks has played the following in the same period:

2020 - 17 out of 20
2019 - 24 out of 24
2018 - 24 out of 24
2017 - 17 out of 24

Brooks has appeared in 82 out of 92 games - 89% appearance rate

Should we dump Brooks for being injury prone?

EDIT: Sorry I had to update figures as I didn't remove Bye rounds!

Reynolds doesn't do contact at Souths training and they refuse to offer him more than a year because of it. Bringing up how many games he played in 2017 is frankly irrelevant.

He's not good enough to warrant the risk and even if he was we never get the good outcome of the risk

OK remove 2017, he has still played 90 out of 98... It's still 92%. I have given data that doesn't support this narrative that he is "always injured."

Not sure when I said he's 'always injured' but he's developed a chronic back problem which for now is mild enough to play but bad enough that he doesn't do contact at training and bad enough that Souths won't extend him

He does contact training at Souths.

If Simpkin goes well and retains the hooker position I would be pursuing Brendan Smith hard from the Storm as a priority for the Lock Position.. Madge is a current NZ coach and would know how to sell it to him and he would do wonders to our team moving forward. He could also cover Hooker if needed as well.
I see Liddle off to the dogs because if he was wanted we would of signed him by now.

I would also put the big money into Reynolds from souths as he wants to stay in Sydney and with those 2 additions it would help in attracting a few others in the 2nd row / backs..

We will have the money so why not use it - No Packer, Mbye and Brooks (might be gone), BJ, MCK and a few others.
People say not to pay overs for players like the past but sometimes you need to just to get the ball rolling and Smith and Reynolds are those type of players. I not talking like 4 years deal like the Mbye / Packer / Josh reynolds but more like 3 year deals with 3rd year club option on Reynolds.. Smith would also bring great morale to the team.

We are at a stage that we have recruited very well in the young talent but need to get some Top line players to steer the ship along.. Lets do this

The quote “ Madge is the NZ coach” makes me laugh ..
How often do NZ play ?
And as if Brandon Smith would come here !
Nice try though !

Jayden Sua, Daniel Tupou, Sebastian Kris, Enari Tuala, Morris Bros, Brent Naden, Adam Pompey, Adam Reynolds, Dale Finucane, Angus Crichton, Kurt Capewell, Siosifa Talakai, Xavier Coates, Jayden Okunbur, Billy Smith, Hynes Hunt

All these guys are off contract players in positions we need. Up to the club to sign the best of the lot for 2022.... plus anyone else who might leave early

We've got the cash and we've got lots of young talent but we still need to continue to upgrade the roster. 2022 has to be our most successful signing spree ever if we want success. Can't afford to sign duds anymore

I like your thinking but I'm not Madge
Question is
What is Madge thinking
He needs improvement and fast
Time to buy elite

I see Liddle and Marshall king in a similar light, not sure dogs will pick up our scraps twice.

Bennet has plans to coach the next Brisbane side in 2023 which means next year is mostly free for him.

Thoughts on giving him a coaching director gig for next year? Obviously make him sign a contract that states he can’t steal any players from us. Or even Bellamy, sharks are tying to get him for the same gig. Throw as much cash as possible, could change the club and make it more appealing for players to come to and even help the current squad we are having issues with Madge (if the rumours are true)

Do we have issues with Madge? I said earlier, when do we look at the players efforts?

We are Buckley's chance of getting someone of the calibre of Bennett or Bellamy. I think people get easily caught up with wanting the best of the best all the time. We need to face facts and reality. Rugby league is a very small insular game where the playing stocks are very limited and that issue goes with the coaches and administration also. Picking and choosing to buy the best players and coaches is determined by what's on offer at the time. It's either slim pickings or we're just not in the race to begin with.

I agree with original poster and I support Madge. The club has a massive perception issue that only a Bellamy or similar (or a cash cow) will fix. Like it or not we are the NRL’s drop in centre.

shopping list

Braidon Burns
Reuben Garrick
Sebastian Kris
Shaun Johnson/Adam Reynolds
Jazz Tevaga
Jaydn Su'a/Sifa Talakai

Burns, Garrick and Kris are scratching the bottom of the barrel.

We're loaded with young talent. All systems must be in place to get them to our NRL team. If that means picking up John Morris and getting him to work immediately on Pathways then that is what we have to do. The junior success at the Sharks is due to him.

If I was looking at players for immediate impact

Coates
Liam Martin
Jayden Sua

I think 1yr is stupid & just won’t change anything.
We have major systemic issues that need years to resolve. As a coaching director he won’t attract big players especially if he has a gig the next year.

If he signed for a few years that’s different but 1yr is a waste of everyones time.

I don’t see the point in trying to attract players? We can’t seem to make good use of the players we have?
