Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Hynes was very good tonight against the Dragons - certainly wasn't simply looking good because of the players around him, it was him making everyone else look good! He was everywhere and had a great motor.
Seems Fullback is his best position - maybe worth considering him at 1 and Laurie as 5/8.

Hynes is a must

I suggested him last year and was told he was a nuffie who was made to look good by the players around him

I suggested Hynes last week and got told that he was only average and others made him look good. There's a lot of poor judges on this forum. I'd be stoked for the Tigers to get Hynes

Hynes has no preference, 1 or 6 I remember him saying on Sen radio a few weeks back.

Looked good chiming in out wide and running onto the ball- has good instincts in space and I liked the way he popped up anywhere. He probably would have to play more structured as a 5/8 and the position requires more D from him which might hinder his above mentioned strengths.
Just on Laurie, as much as it is early days and he often looks dangerous, he hasn't quite shown that type of performance as yet, and I could possibly see him as a Jerome Luai type 5/8 (fingers crossed!).

If mbye is gone, he would be a perfect 6 for us.
1Laurie
6Hynes

Still waiting to see what 2 players they are going to sign for the rest of the year?

It’s not as if we are travelling that well to wait for deadlines.

I would think it will be 2 internal promotions

I would be very surprised if so.

We have just over 600k to spend. For half a season's with that's elite origin player money.

Upgrading juniors would cost maybe 200k at

We could sign a top player and pay a transfer fee if necessary.

Will use the money to free up more space in the cap for the next couple of years if we can't find anyone for this year. I think the most likely outcome is internal upgrades unless Hastings or Gildart get a release.

We've done that so many times in recent years and it never comes to anything. Playing the whole season at 90% of the cap is suicide. An absolute last resort. Who do we have off contract that we want to front load so much? Mikaele about the only one.

We need to recruit from outside, we've got more money than anyone else this season. Who's out there that's pissed off. Either fringe NRL players or highly talented kids like blore looking for a chance in first grade. That's pretty much the only option

Surely people realise how awful Gagai would be for us. He'd want a 3-4 year deal at 600k to join us. Not much value there.

He'd join the Roosters on a one year 300k deal though.

On Today’s post game 2MMM interview with Nicho Hyens he said he had no offers for next year.
Sounded like the Broncos would like him.

Well the last thing we need is to be in a bidding war for a fringe first grader the Broncos want.

Yeah these are the same people who said Mansour, McInness etc. would be bad signings because they'd stop Kepoa, Talau and others getting on the field. Now that would have been a shame wouldn't it

We should make this happen.
He's a super star.

**I urge everyone to watch his sit down / face to face with Matty Johns**

Why?

Why do we all of a sudden decide to buy players based on podcasts or interviews?

No.
But if we bought obviously talented players like Hynes who also have actual character and resilience by the bucket load we might not end up with a team that implodes on a regular basis.
Nothing but long term good would come from signing Hynes and others of his ilk.

It made me appreciate his character a lot more.
It was interesting, insightful and inspiring.

If you're a footy fan like MYSELF, it's one of the good success stories of rugby league.

* Not to mention is as a great player.
Can play anywhere and always looks like likely.
He's better than almost all our backs.
I like him at centre for us.

Tall, fast, safe, creative and good finisher.

Well the last thing we need is to be in a bidding war for a fringe first grader the Broncos want.

He wouldn't be fringe in too many other sides. It's taking Paps to keep him out of the Storm team...

He'd block the progression of one of our very good juniors. Hynes won't help us bridge the gap to the top teams. Our outstanding juniors will. Let's not fritter what money we do have away on fringies.

Seriously P&C, you have to put this one eye approach to our juniors into perspective, they are not FG ready and they may come on in a few years, BUT we need the players now.

probably going to get a bit of backlash for this, but if you stick Doueihi or Laurie in the storm system they'd play even better than Hynes. despite his performance last week in the centres, Doueihi is our long term 6 and Laurie is our long term 1. for that reason I don't see why we'd go after him.

Because you should always be looking for good players imo, it’s then up to the coach to slot them into the team, we have room.

What happens if one of the players get injured?

I think your reasoning doesn’t actually look at what he is doing on the field.

So we invest in juniors and then block their path to the NRL? That is an excellent way to deliver them to other predatory teams.
