On Today’s post game 2MMM interview with Nicho Hyens he said he had no offers for next year.
Sounded like the Broncos would like him.

Well the last thing we need is to be in a bidding war for a fringe first grader the Broncos want.

He wouldn't be fringe in too many other sides. It's taking Paps to keep him out of the Storm team...

He'd block the progression of one of our very good juniors. Hynes won't help us bridge the gap to the top teams. Our outstanding juniors will. Let's not fritter what money we do have away on fringies.

Seriously P&C, you have to put this one eye approach to our juniors into perspective, they are not FG ready and they may come on in a few years, BUT we need the players now.

So we invest in juniors and then block their path to the NRL? That is an excellent way to deliver them to other predatory teams.

No, you do not throw kids into FG when they are not ready, they will get injured that way. It is also a great opportunity to learn from better players.

As I said, the game is also about the NOW.

If we are letting go of BJ and JTJ then we have a lot of young backs and bringing in an experienced professional

Yes, I mean after all there would be a huge gap in the roster for past their prime players looking to pick up one last pay cheque without having to try too hard. I for one can't imagine what a Tigers roster would look like without a few of those, better rush out and sign another one.

You need fully cooked bacon and cheese pies from Yatala with a few half cooked's in the oven.
Hynes is fully cooked and delicious.
Juniors that are good enough will still find their way out of the oven.

if 100% of the FG team is playing in lower grades then why do any teams poach from another teams junior system?
sure the juniors are playing well but the step up to first grade is huge, and to believe that they are all FG capable is ridiculous. not even just now but in the future. how many junior guns are there that come into first grade and just flop and never come back up to first grade? the step is too big. the squad might have a gun spine but the rest of the squad is just enough to get by, we need a forward in FG. do we promote the so-so junior cause he is a junior or do you go to market to get the best fit for the team to make an impact now, potentially give the junior more time to develop (or fade away)?
put it in a business sense, i have a junior accountant, my main accountant retires, do i automatically promote the junior accountant because he is already on my books? or do i go and find the best accountant that applies for the advertised job?

Hynes was very good tonight against the Dragons - certainly wasn't simply looking good because of the players around him, it was him making everyone else look good! He was everywhere and had a great motor.
Seems Fullback is his best position - maybe worth considering him at 1 and Laurie as 5/8.

Hynes has no preference, 1 or 6 I remember him saying on Sen radio a few weeks back.

Edit: found the chat https://www.sen.com.au/news/2021/04/29/nicho-hynes-feels-he-is-ready-for-starting-role-at-nrl-level/

If mbye is gone, he would be a perfect 6 for us.
1Laurie
6Hynes
7Brooks/Hastings
13Hastings

Nico Hynes is definitely a player we should be looking at .. can play 1, 4 or 6 ..

I personally would play Hynes at 1, and move Laurie to 6 (both can play either).

1. Hynes
4. Douiehi
6. Lauire
7. Brooks / Hastings
13.Hastings

So who are we losing next season .. ??

Mbye
Packer
BJ Leilua
Roberts
Walters
MCK
Tamou --> to ESL ??

Why does everyone seem so negative about our recruitment...

Over the last 18 months we have recruited some excellent players and all for a great price without overpaying.. We have been mentioned about asking about Dane Gagai and he is not only a current SOO player, he is not 36 years old but 30 and would still have at least 3 years left in him.. Judging by our recent recruitment we would not be paying overs at all and actually we have even been very smart and adding club options for the last year of some risky signings...
I trust the team recruiting but if we can pick up any SOO player for a good price its a big yes to me as they help attract other quality players and also bring a higher standard to the team in most cases.

We are not that far off as long as we can keep up the attitude and effort consistently for the rest of this year. At the end of this season we let go of all players that are off contract (except Seyfarth and Mikaele), we bring in 3-4 guys that are strictly “competitors”, “goers” who play to win, and upgrade the balance of the top 30 from the best juniors we have.
It’s the 3-4 guys that are important..... Gildart is a start, then we need to throw the house at 2-3 that will be on field leaders and drag the rest along with them. Brandon Smith, Finucane or Sua, maybe Seb Kris or Hynes, Angus Crighton- these types of players are who we need to be chasing.

Agree try for Finucane and B Smith to add to our pack and keep Joey L but on a lesser contract if we can and let go James Roberts and Packer and hopefully move Mmbye on

I tend to agree and while I don't hold that much for semis this year feel we are doing better in this department.
I understand why people are still negative given failure impulse buys, 'significant' players not being retained and 'stars' not signing with us ; and not to mention there not being much success again this year (mainly in regards to pride and passion at times for mine) but I think Hartigan is slowly building us to being a stronger club.

St Helens in SL having salary cap problems a lot of players being squeezed out. This is a snippet from the article noticed KEVIN NAIQAMA amongst them he was very good for us.

Fages, who has made 133 appearances for Saints since joining the club from Salford in 2016, is free to speak to other clubs, as are overseas players Lachlan Coote and Kevin Naiqama and highly rated second rower James Bentley, all of whom are also out of contract this year.

We should make this happen.
He's a super star.

**I urge everyone to watch his sit down / face to face with Matty Johns**

Why?

Why do we all of a sudden decide to buy players based on podcasts or interviews?

It made me appreciate his character a lot more.
It was interesting, insightful and inspiring.

If you're a footy fan like MYSELF, it's one of the good success stories of rugby league.

* Not to mention is as a great player.
Can play anywhere and always looks like likely.
He's better than almost all our backs.
I like him at centre for us.

Tall, fast, safe, creative and good finisher.

I was against him a couple of weeks ago but Im warming to him. The problem for me is that we have bought Laurie for FB. IMO Hynes is too small for centre or 5/8. Would be good at 1

Oh god please no

I like Hynes a lot. I'm not sure Laurie is our long term fullback. Personally, I think 6 might be his best position. Not this year, certainly, and maybe not next either. But I remember Gould saying he thought Laurie's best position was 6.
Hynes might be the perfect 1 for us when/if Laurie moves to 6 and in the meantime, would make a very good centre.

Laurie is better than Hynes at fullback. Deouihi is better than Hynes at 5/8 and also centre.

As for juniors, I'd much rather Ogden and Talau run out in the cwntres for WTs.

If the Broncos are interested in Hynes, let them have him. He is not good enough to get into a bidding war.
