Fox News reporting we are going all in for finucane ??????

I feel like this could be a catch 22 one day

EVERYONE is urging the Tigers to throw cheque book at Finucane

I can see 2 years from now the same people saying we paid overs for an older player

Doomed either way IMO

Everyone on here including myself said exactly the same thing about Brett and Josh Morris, and we all know how that turned out at the Roosters.
It’s more about the character and ethics of the player you’re signing.

IMO, Finucane will not attract players as much as TPJ would.

I really hope we don't pay overs if we end up getting him, the way he has played the game he won't have many games ahead.

I would be going after both.
Fin at 13 and TPJ at 12 makes our pack have a massive lift and they both compliment each other.

As long as a decent deal is done with Finucane I think it's a good move. We shouldn't throw $800k at him but I read hes willing to take a little less so we should go for that.

We lack leadership out there and he'll be good for that, he's also an excellent defender. We can have Stefano, Seyfarth and Mikaele for impact if need be.

Realistically he’s a $400k player, $500k tops.

400k over 2 years max

Agree.
???

Better balanced pack.

Twal and Tamou, starting props.
Luciano & TPJ 2RFs and Finucane at 13

Bench of Offa, Seyfarth, Mikaele and Utoikamanu.
Hard.

Character and ethics 100% agree. Not sure how they would have done with our little lambs around them but still would have added I think.

Sounds like rubbish, make them both an offer and if either accepts, great and if we cant afford both withdraw the other.

Pretty sure we'd have the money for both? I'd be making both an offer if we do

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I'd be nervous about having so much $$$ tied up in second row. We have decent options there in LL, Blore Garner. Im VERY happy to spend good money on one new talented second rower but I cant justify tying up so much money in second row.

I think our second row is a bit of a worry. Garner is ok, Blore hasn't really come on like we'd hoped, and Luc looks completely cooked. I think we need a strong second rower and Luc goes to the interchange.

I agree totally but I think we need one not two, its too much to tie up in salary cap

Would Finucance play 13 though? Tbh I know he's got a good reputation but i'm not overly keen on Finucane. He'll cost a bomb and he's not getting any younger.

This is what does my head in ..
Finucane has an accomplished career no doubt but has played in far superior systems to ours ..
Add the fact he’s old and he wants $800k and he’s now on the slide ..
Not worth that sort of money !

I agree. I think that sort of money could be better spent elsewhere.

Especially expensive when considering much of his value is tied to an intangible known as “LEADERSHIP”.
I think we paid around $700k for Tamou’s leadership.

Even worse considering we have seyfarth. Buying leadership is a myth. It's not tangible. Just ask plodder tamou

Of course you can buy people with leadership qualities, I hire people all the time because of their leadership qualities.

How do you recognise those leadership qualities?

By speaking with them and others that know them, by observation and looking at and discussing their and their teams results and output. It's not very difficult at all.

Yes of course mate, but what is it that you recognise in a person that tells you they have leadership qualities? A persons ability to influence the behaviour of others? In my opinion it’s a strong belief in the goals of the organisation. Now you take a career footballer who has played his entire career at another club, how much of what he believed in needs to change in order for him to continue being a leader?

No I don't really agree with that, I want my leaders to develop those goals. The goals of all clubs are pretty much the same to win games, how that is done varies from club to club. I want my leaders to create and drive the standard required to win those games. Leaders transfer from one organisation to another all the time and yes football is a little different but leadership skills are transferrable.

One of the things I admire in leaders are leaders who develop other leaders, Tamou does this all the time, the way he speaks about younger players is inspiring.

Not too sure what you’re disagreeing with? Perhaps the point regarding belief in the WT story? I just don’t think it’s as easy as many may think, to buy loyalty and belief in your club, which is essential for leaders to buy in and prove their worth as leaders. It’s much easier to grow it over time. I love Tamou in the team because of his experience, but his admission that there are underlying issues preventing him from doing his job proves my point. We haven’t had a great deal of success trying to buy leadership since Sheens left. A little different in a normal workplace where there is less physical and emotional distress under fatigue, when you can rely on a personality /character type to continue to do their job. On the park in the heat of battle, when a leader is called upon, it comes from a deep down held belief in what he’s doing. Sure, buy older players because of their experience but to call it leadership is a stretch imo. There should be 13 players on the park showing leadership qualities at any given time during a game. That’s how you win games. That’s what WT should aspire to, and the only way to get that is for the club to have a good story and grow it’s leaders. imo.

Yeah mate, I totally get what you are saying with footy being a little different. I actually see Tamou's post game interview last week as strong leadership. He us attempting to apply the blowtorch to those underlying issues. I think we are getting good leadership from Tamou, I think he needs to improve his game on the field though.

I think it's the opposite. TPJ has more talent, but Finucane has immense respect in the game. Players always comment on how they feel with him defending next to them.

We definitely need more impact as well, we don't win the collision and that is a big issue.

Fox News reporting we are going all in for finucane ??????

James Hooper from Fox Sports

The Wests Tigers have finally seen the light and plan to push all-in on Melbourne Storm champion Dale Finucane.

Talk about a result! Besides being one of the toughest middle forwards in the NRL and a seasoned professional Finucane is also one of the most fundamentally decent blokes in rugby league.

The obvious question is why on earth would a player of Finucane’s calibre who’s won two premierships at Melbourne and played in six NRL grand finals want to join the on-field rabble that is the Wests Tigers

Big $ Hooper
Can't you work that out drongo

So I wonder everyone if we have put an offer in or is this the Hooper trying to get some clickbait?
Interesting times and maybe @THE_POM or @CCTW could shed some light..
Hope also we have also put an offer in for TPJ before the Dogs pouch but considering we went up to Brisbane to talk to him say's if we were going to we would have already.. Looking forward to the next week as something is brewing

When Ivan Cleary was the coach, we beat the storm twice in one season, our defence was decent and we scored the most points in NRL history to not qualify for the top 8. I know he made some bad signings we are finally seeing the end of. I don’t like the man but maybe he could coach, Brooks was the Daly M half back of the year, we were competitive in just about every game. Now we can only dream of beating sides like the Storm, Parra and a full strength panthers. I thought Madge was a defensive coach? Our defence is the worst it has ever been, I don’t think the players are responding to his methods, he can’t attract a star signing that will make others think I want to play at the Wests Tigers. I

That points scored stat was actually when Madge coached us in 2019. Ivan got us to 14th in his first year and 9th in his second. He lost us a lot of young talent and signed a bunch of guys who, sure, did alright to start but after a year and a half were completely useless and on massive coin.

Ivan achieved nothing with us, I don't know why people look back on him as if he did some good with us. Sure we beat Melbourne and roosters that year, we also lost to the wooden spooners, the bulldogs, Newcastle, titans and Canberra who were all in the bottom 8 that season.

Sure he got us the closest we've been in a decade but going close doesn't mean anything

Wests Tigers finished with 26 points 2018 and 24 in Madges first year

Ahh, but wasn’t there 2 byes in Ivan’s Year?
Still we were 6 Points from the final 8 and 8 points from the minor premiership, in what was classed as one of the closest seasons ever.

In Madge’s first tenure we missed out on the 8 by 1 point!

I hope people realize what 800k would do to your salary cap. Having any player on 800k massively impacts your salary cap. You got to get a star player for that money. You need a guy who wins games.

I'll put it in perspective. If you only paid the top 17 players which is completely unrealistic the average salary for the top 17 players would be about 470k. You don't get heaps of shots at paying any player 500k or above.

Is this guy really worth those sort of dollars or put it another way. Is Finucane going to be the guy you give the ball to when the game is on the line. Is he going to make a bust to win you the game ?

We've paid guys like Mbye, Reynolds and Packer this sort of money previously and they haven't been able to play to that level.

Agreed. Doomed if we do doomed if we dont.

I hate these things being played out in the media, I know its probably not the clubs fault in most cases still......

Have look what Pooper wrote - its not a backhanded, its a double backhand with a triple loop....

The Wests Tigers have **finally seen the light** and plan to push all-in on Melbourne Storm champion Dale Finucane.

If we sign, we paid overs for an over the hill workhorse, if we miss - its another sign NOBODy wants to come to the WT...

TPJ is the signing we need as he provides impact. Having TPJ allows LL to be used in shorter periods. We have to get this signing finalised. He will also attract other players.

In the medias eyes we are going to cop it. Stuff them. We should just look at the figures and ignore what those morons are stating.

We gotta stop the emotional marquee purchases.

I think TPJ is much more likely to have an impact on our team compared to Finucane. It all depends on the dollars but if Finucane is our marquee signing I think we are screwed again.
