The media will jump on any opportunity to make us look unprofessional and stupid. The club can't give them any ammunition. And just saying it's ok because we know the truth doesn't cut it. They have to look after the image and branding of the club and having hundreds of these articles ridiculing us reinforces the view that we're a laughing stock and amateur club.

I agree with you, I'm stating that just because the club hasn't come out and replied doesn't mean it is true. I wish they would, but it is extremely unlikely to happen.

It's not a big enough issue to bother responding to and if they turn around and respond now (in circumstances where Hooper has dropped Pascoe's name in it) then it just makes it look like the action is being taken to protect the image of Pascoe, not the club.
Responding to these anus-like reporters just creates an expectation that you will respond again in the future. Every time they hear some crap about the club they will print it and expect a response from the club if it's not on the money. "Well they responded when that wasn't true so the fact that they're not responding now must mean it has some legs".
Whatever they do will open them up to criticism at some point so I personally don't care what choices they make about these things.
