Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

When you look at centres then 2 clubs are over supplied with NRL level centres - Manly have Harper, Parker, Suli and Dylan Walker. Given Walker is off contract could be an option.

Raiders have Kris, Croker, Timoko and Scott. Obv Scott is the one available and while im def not a fan of him as a human he does have talent if you can keep him from punching people off the field.

The other club is obv Dogs who have Hopoate and Schoup off contract and Cotric on big money with Allen and also have as we know lots coming in next yr. Schoup to mine has looked good for them this yr in a poor backline and of course id take Cotric esp with Dogs paying some of the bills.

Zac Lomax might come up too. Dragons paid him Fullback money to play centre and does that really their cap. They have Bird, Williame, Beale and more importantly the 2 Fergai brothers coming through. Mayby we could lighten the cap load and take Lomax off their hands

Also mayby for a short term Josh Dugan is only 31 and could fill a gap although with 2 weeks quarantine.

Lots of options - all better then what we have in Pauga

Next year what will be our centre pairing? I see it as our biggest weakness but with the Oli the pom and AJ back I think we have a solid, not great pair with TT as back up? Am I missing anyone?

I think the AJ injury has everyone forgetting how bad he was. He had a good 50 minutes in the centre’s but his hands are worse than Talau’s.

We need to find a professional centre who can tackle and catch.

Suli would be a dream

Very few quality centres available any where. Even the best teams have players in the centres who are not considered elite. When the centres rep in the SOO are both FB at club level it shows how few are around.

Gagai would have been good, but everyone said he was too old. Meanwhile we have Talau, BJ and Roberts to choose from.

Certainly not not the glamour position it used to be.

31 year old Dean Whare was pushed out of Penrith and now plays for Catalans. I know he is getting on, but he is a no-nonsense, strong tackling centre with solid experience, might be a good filler for a few years and wouldn’t break the bank.

Emergency calls to Lomax and Harley Smith Shields

Might be time to shop Nofo too.
Maybe a trade to Parra for Haze Dunster and Ray Stone.

Need some upgrades in the backs desperately.

To be honest I'm sick of complaints about players being too old or paying "overs". We are not signing anyone of note and are not likely to. We are not in a position to be too picky. When Easts signed the Morris brothers they were old by our standards and what wonderful buys they both were.

Curtis Scott rumoured to be on his way out of canberra due to a recent incident punching on at a bar in canberra, wouldn't be surprised if we make a play at him with how hopeless our center pairings have been

another player when removed from the Melbourne system is no good

He was removed from the Melbourne system for the same reason he's being removed from the Raiders system - he's a grub that can't get his act together off-field.

I don't think he's a bad footballer if he can keep on the straight 'n narrow.

Get Will Chambers as a stop gap for a year or two

We need the next Justin Olam - he's the best centre in the game.

I hear Joey Manu is off contract

Kind see a lot of Joey Manu in Talau. There’s a talent there. He just needs a lot of work in refining it.

If we're gonna spend on a prop like Finucane, I'd much rather have a go at Klemmer for the same money if he's unhappy at Newcastle.

Klemmer's having a down year by his standards, but the stats speak for themselves:

https://www.newcastleknights.com.au/teams/telstra-premiership/newcastle-knights/david-klemmer/

160m a game and 98% tackle efficiency. That is without question elite.

3rd most metres per game by any prop, 8th most post-contact metres.

Fittler dropping him from the NSW team last year was inexpicable and he had a blow-up about it, which is why he hasn't been brought back. He should be there for sure.

Given he's only 27, taking the last 2 years of his Newcastle deal up and adding another year onto that with maybe an option for a 4th would mean we have him from 28-31 years old. No brainer for mine.

Would take Klemmer in an instant if it was an option.
But can’t see us out bidding other clubs for his services.

I understand why we won’t pay overs and why we miss out on stars but the sizable gaps in our roster to fill are bigger than the prop rotation especially with Musgrove back next year.

We need backrowers, locks and centers over spending big on a prop.

Braidon Burns could be a good signing.
