Need to go all out for Manu.
Give him fb, Laurie to half, Adam 6, Brooks 9.

Gould was saying that Laurie's best position is 6. So this sounds good but I'll have Adam at centre brooks at 7. Also putting Hastings at 13 will give you a ball playing lock.

I agree with Gould assessment on Laurie.

I don't think he is ready for 6 yet.

How does he get ready for six if all that he has been playing for Wests Tigers is 1?

There is this new innovation called training, though I'm not sure if our team does that yet. He will also get time in the 6 during trials like he did this year, to show if he is ready.

The superstar that the ‘battle-scarred’ Wests Tigers need to ‘throw the kitchen sink at’

Darcie McDonald from Fox Sports

The Wests Tigers slumped to their fifth loss in six weeks with a performance that had many declaring the club had officially hit rock bottom.

With their season on the line, the Tigers failed to aim up against a seriously depleted Warriors side.

Michael Ennis put the blowtorch on the club’s powerbrokers, suggesting they are the people who should be made accountable for the team going backwards.

But league legend James Graham might have a solution to get the Tigers back on track — and it’s to do with their recruitment drive.

The Tigers have struggled to build a champion roster. Coach Michael Maguire inherited poor salary cap decisions when he took over the reigns in 2018.

The likes of big earners Russell Packer and Moses Mbye haven’t lived up to expectations, while Joey Leilua has spent more time in reserve grade than NRL this season. Luke Brooks has managed to hold onto his No.7 jersey but not a week goes by that questions aren’t raised about his spot in the team.

When it comes to building his ideal roster, Maguire has tried — but failed. Michael Ennis believes that is concerning for the club considering the last-placed Bulldogs and lowly Broncos are still managing to lure star signings.

“For Michael Maguire, the roster that he has at the moment, the Bulldogs have attracted Matt Burton, Josh Addo-Carr, Luke Thompson has come there when times were tough, the list goes on there,” Ennis told Big League Wrap.

“The Broncos, in a poor time in their club’s history, are still attracting blokes like Adam Reynolds, they’ve re-signed Kotoni Staggs and Kurt Capewell — an Origin player — is going there.

“The Wests Tigers have missed Latrell Mitchell, they’ve missed Dale Finucane, they’ve missed out on Tevita Pangai.”

Graham believes the Tigers are still reeling from blowing their budget on players that couldn’t deliver — but says it’s time to “move on from that” by going after one of the hottest names in the game.

“I think they’ve been burned in the fact that they spent overs on people like (Moses) Mbye, (Josh) Reynolds, (Russell) Packer and (Ben) Matulino and they’re almost fearful of that now. They need to move on from that,” he told Big League Wrap.

“When Maguire was a top coach he had top players doing all those little things for him where he doesn’t seem to have that (at the Tigers).

“Why don’t they throw the kitchen sink at a Joseph Manu? Pay way overs for him — and not one of these plays around the $800,000 mark — I’m talking about some serious money.

“A lot of player agents out there were anticipating an expansion team coming in and freeing up a lot of player movement. They’ve got to go out and they’ve got to cast that net, and those guys that were potentially going to an expansion team, get some of them on board.”

However, Fox League’s James Hooper says it’s unlikely the Tigers will splash a lot of cash on one player again.

“The reason why they won’t do it is because they’re battle-scarred from having missed out on so many key signatures,” he said.

And while big calls on the roster are needed, there’s an overarching decision that probably needs to be made first — that’s on the future of Maguire.

According to multiple reports, Maguire has these final weeks of the season to save his job.

Fox League’s Lara Pitt put the decision in Ennis’ hands for a moment, asking him if Maguire has done enough to get another season at the helm.

“I’m not sure, I’m really not,” Ennis responded.

“You look at his results since he’s come to the club. He was going to rebuild the Wests Tigers, we knew that he was all about hard work and all about defence. He spoke honestly and publicly about that.

“Since he’s been at the Wests Tigers they’ve deteriorated. He had a 45 per cent win record the first year he was there, I think it went to 35 per cent last year and this year it’s languishing at less, I think it’s down to the low 30s.

“This (Warriors clash) was a game they had to win. The Warriors, with all due respect, could hardly field a side. Leading 10-nil, four points outside of the top right, it’s the same conversation every year.

“When do the powers that be become accountable at the Wests Tigers that have made these decisions?

“Yes, Michael Maguire should be under pressure. He’s saying that his side is growing — I’ve seen no growth. He might argue that, but I haven’t seen a lot of growth in the Wests Tigers since he’s been there.

“But the same people are sitting in the same positions at the club making the same decisions and nothing is changing at the Wests Tigers.”

Graham put the onus on the players and singled out one moment in Friday’s game when the Warriors scored one of the easiest tries we’ll ever see.

“The short dropout is a play you’ve got to know. It’s a training ground drill and the players are looking at each other and just let Euan Aitken pick the ball up and are looking around as if to say ‘what happened?’” he said.

“The idea of the play isn’t bad, but the execution of it is really poor.

“I feel so sorry for Michael Maguire, I really do because he seems like a coach that tries his heart out, he puts so much effort and energy (into coaching).”

Ennis agreed that Maguire’s effort is second to none — but suggested that perhaps that’s not enough. However, he’d like to see some action at the very top first.

“Anyone that knows ‘Madge’ knows what a great bloke he is, and he works tirelessly. Everyone in the game that knows Madge, knows that he’s got a great work ethic — and that’s what he can instil in a side,” Ennis said.

“But in terms of the technicality of the way the side plays, I’ve heard that there say technically he’s a great motivator but that’s not where they need to be.

“The bottom line is that at the end of the day, the Wests Tigers don’t know who they are and it starts at the top. Until they’re willing to make some serious decisions, nothing is going to change.

“With the roster they’ve got at the moment, obviously with what’s going on off-field in terms of leadership, if nothing changes, they’ll get the same results and we’ll be having the same conversations next year.”

Say Hello
Hastings
Gildart
Lomax
Peachey
Klemmer
Woods
The hello far out ways the goodbye lot , I put Peachey in as he is only 27 and he can change a game on his own , Klemmer add punch and Aggression , Woods still going ok and cheap , Lomax be nice , Hastings again can be aggressive and game changer compared to what we seen in our last game , nobody knew how to finish the game off , Peachey would have been all over that play the ball nobody turned up to grab , Gildart ? Not sure only time will tell I just hope he is quick

Lomax and Klemmer are both contracted for the next couple years. I know plenty of players agitate to get out of contracts early, but i dont recall any player who was still a first grade regular at their current club breaking contract to go to a less successful club.

Addin Fonua Blake.

Founa Blake did something very very bad to a club sponsor and thats why Manly let him go with out a fight he is a very low form of human

Joey Manu is not the saviour alone that we need .. yes need a marque back with size and speed .. but we also need a marque forward, one who will lead us from the front .. one who will make other teams fear the Tigers forward pack again .. !!

We are going to come into some serious $$ for next season, so lets use it wisely .. 2 top line players is a must, a back and a forward .. we will have to keep the players who are performing this season that are worth keeping, then promote some young, up and coming players who are willing to give 100% to earn their spots .. stuff going for old retiring players who want big $$ but don't give a stuff how they preform on the field .. !!

We have enough players now who have had a taste of the top grade, and by the sounds of it we have some players who are ready to step up that we should keep ie: Tuilagi and Ogden

Question .. what position is Ogden best .. ??

Ogden can play centre, wing or fullback - as to which position is his best...I'll say centre, just ahead of fullback.

I've played a lot of team sports. In most of the successful teams I've been a part of there was (at least) one player who you really wanted to play with. You turned up, saw them and thought you were going to win. You see blokes like Teddy, Latrell, Tommy T, Munster, Cheese, Cleary, Tamaulo, Ponga etc and they lift you to perform better. There's no-one in our team like that. Who in our team inspires confidence or would attract other players to come?

This is why I think we need to stump up big money for marquee player. Paying overs for average players is poor management but paying overs for the right player is an investment. Any one of the players listed above would change the perception of the club as a place to play. Two would be a bonus. Imagine Cheese and Tommy?

Some people will never leave their club (Cleary, Turbo) but for everyone else, money talks. Cheese has said he expects to get $1M a year for his next contract - for us I think he's worth it.

Incompitance, stupidity, lack of intestinal fortitude, whoever is responsible for our recruitment, and i think more then just one, deserves these labels. There must be changes made.

So who is the player to be upgraded to our squad?

With so many games on that there won't be any announcements today. Would always be tomorrow, after the round is over, so we won't know even if we signed someone from outside yet

Not likely to be tomorrow either with the two evening games as well.

Depending on the teams involved. If we signed someone from a club not playing tomorrow we could announce it.

If we were just promoting someone why not announce it today?

I don't think there will be much fanfare for this announcement.

You’ve got the inside word?

There hasn’t been any noise other than Panthers signing TPJ and Melbourne signing Tepai Morora in regards to the rest of the league finalising their squads.

I am expecting it to be an internal upgrade, I would expect Tuilagi

Very disappointing considering we have money to burn.. This has to be the lowest the club has been in the 20 years IMO.. If no signings I would hope there is some re-signings or money brought forward for a guy like Mbye.

Need to upgrade Daine Laurie and Stefo ASAP..

We still have not heard about the extention offers to TM and Seyfarth plus if we are going to take up the CO for JTJ and Joey. You would assume Joey is gone but you never know with this mob.. I think the communication to the fans this year has dropped off completely from past years and not sure if that is to do with COVID and letting staff go.. They need to remember its us fans that as buying the memberships , Tickets to games, Merchandise etc...

Contract discussions have started with both Seyfarth and Mikaele but no offer put forward yet.

My mistake I thought I read we had already given offers to them and wanted them to make a decision before the deadline. Good to hear

Last info from the @THE_POM was contracts to both but big Tom being chased hard by 2 clubs. Also, contract submitted to Egan Butcher from the roosters. Pom hasn’t been back with a further update.

I understand the club being scared of long contract again but surely they’re not fair dinkum comparing Manu to someone like Packer or Reynolds. We gave 2 bulldogs rejects 800K plus and a one season wonder forward another 800. They are not even close to the talent level of Manu so the club can’t just shut up shop and say “we’re never paying overs for anyone again”, we have to. While I don’t think he is solution, it’s a ridiculous approach for such a terrible team.

One big signing won't suddenly fix all our problems. It would be great but we can't even get the basics right and it's been like that for like 5+ years

That would be a disaster and massive insult to everyone at the club (other than Kelma).

It says there's not a single player of any age that wants to join us.

There is not a lot around atm.

That's just not true and a massive copout. There's hundreds of players potentially available. We'd be far better off promoting Etu Lui, Israel Ogden or evn Logen Dillion given Laurie is out. Get them in the bubble asap!

Or target a star from another clubs Flegg squad. They're not playing for them, so being released to an NRL deal would be highly probable. We've got to be exploring all avenues. If they wont do it give me a job! Sure the kids aren't match fit but there's more long term value getting them training with the nrl squad now and this will help us next season, if not sooner. Promoting Tuilagi, Cooper etc achieves absolutley nothing and is completely pointless.

Such a good suggestion. We have talent that we can bring through from Flegg who actually have shown they want to win and do anything to be part of the club. All this rubbish that we'd be throwing them to the wolves etc. You either step up and learn or maybe you can't cut it - only one way to find out.

In reality, yes they will have had only half a season in 2 years (some of them 1.5 seasons from 2019) but they will be 22 next year - get them in the squad and get them training early if not for 2021 but for 2022.

Bulldogs and Broncos (Cowboys and Warriors also to a degree) are the template of what a team lacking necessary leadership looks like - and we're in the same boat. Atleast there are some world class players currently in or being added to their squads. We don't have this and depending on youth only decreases our ability to build a competitive enough team for the NRL.

It's why it's so easy for those teams to collectively collapse as they ultimately can't handle the demands of it and there's not enough experience to lead them out of trouble or model the correct behaviour.
There's also not enough composure, confidence and belief within the team.
Like others have pointed out, it helps form a unhealthy performance culture - with not many capable of distributing accountability in the side - and a losing culture. Can you imagine the Storm without the Bromwich brothers, Welch, Finucane, Kaufusi and NAS? It'd basically be sunshine Coast falcons. Or Roosters without JWH, Taukeiaho, Crichton or Tedesco.

Edit:Shouldn't be just saying them, as we have the exact same problem.

Yes ok - take your point but I would prefer not to give up. History shows that comps can be won from building from within and not just recruiting superstars. Some team called Manchester United was heavily criticised when they were told they would never win a comp with their juniors and without recruiting superstars from outside the club. They went onto to win many championships - average age 21 & 22 and built a dynasty!

Whilst I acknowledge this is very different, we shouldn't be waiting around hoping we can attract big name players before we promote or provide some opportunity to some of the most promising juniors around their early 20s. If anything they might inspire the older ones we have and gel into a finals if not winning combination.

It's not like we have much choice at the moment. A losing culture should never be an excuse for any promising youngsters.

If they have that attitude, they're not going to make it anyway.

Ben Hunt out for a month....

That Mbye deal looking half decent them now?

Oh when the saints... go marching in....

Wasn't the deadline today ??
They have most likely upgraded internally and forgot to update Members and fans as thats how they do business now.. The communication to us fans is just not acceptable anymore and I personally don't see things changing unless changes are done from the top down.

I wouldn’t be expecting too much from Laurie at least in the early part of the year. The tank retired from a similar injury, so recovery may be timely so we need a 1/3/6 type player (Manu🤞)

You're a fan mate (customer) - Not the major sponsor...
Seriously...
