Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We are no chance of Hellum Luki. Forget about it. Probably made a tight offer for him too

The point that is missed seems to be...

No matter how much you offer, way overs as in Latrine - or market value as in the last few.

If they don't want to leave or come here...what do you do? Go after them with a shotgun!

Oh! no, let's blame the coach, let's blame the recruitment team la la la la.....

Don't think so, keep going after the right players at the right price, we may snag one.

In the meantime keep the pathways going and keep pinching other teams future stars from the lower grades.

More than one way to skin a cat.

Thompson is a maybe for me. Great player, but recent weeks have made be less certain of the need for a prop.

Tuilagi and Simpkins look like they'll be ready to make the jump as full-time first graders next year. Ofahengaue is a solid prop. Twal and Stefano can give us 50+ minutes a week with no worries. Mikaele and Musgrove can come off the bench and give us some real impact. Realistically, one of Hastings or Brooks is going to be coming off the bench in the 14 and playing the role of a third ball-player for at least 20 a game.

I mean he presents a tangible upgrade over everyone in the pack bar Stefano and Twal, but I don't think it's enough of an upgrade to justify a long-term deal on good money. Lomax would be a better option in terms of improving the squad, or saving up for a star like Brandon Smith or Joey Manu.

So an International isn't a good enough upgrade. seriously?

the forum has gone mad again. he is a massive, ill say to slowly M A S S I V E upgrade on all bar Stefano. he also wants to win

I agree. He’s often overlooked because he’s playing in such a poor team but I think he’s an elite front rower. He and Stef would be our best middles by some margin.

Stef and Thompson would be the best front row partnership in the game. Thompson is a superstar. I have watched every bulldogs game and he stands out in a team coming dead last. If we had $750,000 for TPJ then we should be all over him. If the bulldogs chip in and we can get him for 4 years then please make it happen.

If true there is another one to add a massive list of players who have said no thanks. The last few are happy to stay where they are and remain in the que for a first grade job.

Back to the drawing boards for the 100th time

I can't recall a team ever going after so many players and landing none of them. It must be some kind of record.

Have we gone after all of them, or has this forum said we have?

Pom said we’d gone after Butcher and advised us yesterday HSS was staying in Canberra. All the others were also confirmed on here by people in the know too. Players just don’t want to play here.

exactly
we can't hide behind this oh have we actually gone after these players
we have
Some forum members with good mail have said we have
Butcher
Harley Smith shields
and we know about
Latrell
JAC
Finucane
TPJ

we can not buy an egg at present

The big names rejected us..

And now the rookies like Egan and Harley.

Like my man @Milky says,
"Trust the process"

I hope there is a plan.

My correspondence with the CEO last week leads me to believe, the plan is.... we wait.
We wait for cap pressures at other clubs to force decent players to become available or unrest to arise and then we strike, like the Maumalo signing..

Clearly this isn't the BEST plan for some of us fans.
Definitely the slow / long game.
But, alas... trust the process.

Hopefully we land with Lomax type and not... Duran.

Lol before Maumalo the last 2 players we got out of that strategy was Reynolds and Mbye. Stoked for the future….

Lol, rough.

I think they've learnt from those mistakes and don't plan to make them again.

Email the CEO your concerns.
He pretty much confirmed they aren't making anyone offers at the moment and waiting for some players to present themselves from cap pressure or unrest.

Don't get excited for any big movement.

See how the Lomax legal stuff plays out.

But as we re aware Roosters need props and centres too.

If that’s the strategy, the club is doomed. No club that’s successful sits back and waits for the scraps of other clubs. They are proactive and attacking.

I agree, nothing is going to fall into your lap.
This is business. Every decent player is going to have 15 options maybe 16 + union offers if they're a junior coming through.
Have to be cut throat aggressive and go out and compete for the signatures.

From my email with Justin, he said as much as there isn't anything available at the moment and they will monitor situations for things to arise.

Too relaxed, IMO.
Can work out well but isn't a guarantee.

Junior focus is still a priority.

The other thing is, you aren’t going to pick up any Origin type players with that strategy, just players other clubs are willing to let go. It’s a loser mentality.

Bulldogs have zero continuity and no spine, Trent Barrett will be on the centreline line by mid May

They’ve signed Dufty and Burton? Their spine will be better than ours.

Dufty is dreadful. Sure he produces the odd attacking masterpiece however defensively he's like Nofo from Wish.

Dufty can’t even make the dragons team. They have no hooker and they have no halfback. Burton will have to play 7,6 and 4 for them to have any chance.

That's the plan though, lol...

Focus on pathways, build from within and sign players forced out of their club cos of cap or other issues.

Wouldn't be getting hopes up for any signings for a while.

Hopeful we have a crack at Lomax tho.

Guys I am absolutely lost for words at how we can’t sign anyone. Makes me think management and/or the coach put the players off

it has to be the coach now doesn't it ?

Pascoe and Lee should be nowhere near recruitment..period.

Hartigan,Maguire and Sheen's.

Are they near?

Sheens was not brought here to recruit for NRL - well not unless we want something like Isaako to play front row or Kaide Ellis to play on the wing. Just keep Sheens focused on Pathways imo.

People are allowed to be annoyed when we miss out on player signings big or small lol, don't know why that's an issue to some people

We've signed two new recruits for 2022, the spots will get filled eventually but the market looks pretty bleak at the moment.

Have to hope they pick out some good juniors or bigger name players leave the club. Problem is we can't JUST sign rookies, we do need experienced, proper first grade players too. Our current ones are mostly no good

I'm disappointed, as I'd started to look a bit at those players, and I thought they'd welcome an opportunity to play first grade rather than fight for an uncertain spot, but probably the sort of player that wants to fight for a spot is a good quality person to go after!

Good on them, but I won't be thinking about them again. Anyway, I think the 'gems' we have unearthed weren't even really playing first grade like Butcher has been, and HSS less so. The same recruitment team that convinced Stef and Dane and Sean and Tuki to come, are doing the recruiting still. Sheens paid well for Hodgson, and a (injury prone) Prince, a prop that was out of favour in Payten, and Pat Richards, who was solid but not a star. All the rest came from within. Let's remember our history: we've never been a destination. Let's concentrate on our Flegg players and wait for the off season when these over spending clubs need to make sacrifices...

The two reserve graders that have decided to stay at their current clubs means they also said no to half a dozen other clubs that were trying to sign them. The stefano’s and lauries are out there and we will get them. Heads up!!!
