Our forward pack wpuld instantly go from having a softish underbelly to down right nasty.
Stef and thommo
Bateman and blore
Lock whoever.
The reason this is good imo is both Bateman and thomo lead the line speed at their clubs. We NEED a few forwards that do that.

I love Lucy but if we grab those 2 players he becomes excess tbh

Have Seyfarth at lock and Luciano on the bench. Yum.

You guys really don’t rate Lucy do you. It’s a fitness thing with him not an effort thing. Madge is doing the right thing in building up his match fitness by continually playing him when he is fatigued. Same as Liddle.
The days of having fresh forwards that don’t break a sweat before they are subbed are done.
Every team in the top tier have long endurance forwards. Even big Tom Burgess gets through average 50mins a game.
That’s the way is going and trust me people rate Luciano he is a real threat in attack. With time he will be in defence.

It's the end of the season, and he's still not fit enough...

Highlights from Castleford Tigers vs Wigan Warriors for anyone interested...

Wow the standard is very ordinary, neither would beat my local state cup side Newtown.

No chance, I know Aussies love to look down on Super League, but Wigan (or St Helens, or Leeds) would seriously blow any state cup side off the park.

For example, they are second behind only the Sydney Roosters in world club challenge wins, ahead of Melbourne. Wigan beat Cronulla convincingly in 2017, and put in a good show against the Roosters in 2019.

The bottom Super League clubs like Leigh or Salford probably wouldn't look out of place in State Cup, but the top 4 or 5 sides would compete in the NRL.

That's pretty good going when only 4 or 5 NRL clubs can compete in the NRL

Haha good point. Well they would compete with Wests, Newcastle and Gold Coast.

Granted. But he will be better for it. Has a whole preseason going forwards armed with the knowledge of what he needs to do improve his endurance and also his effectiveness during the moments of fatigue.
Match fitness isn’t just conditioning the body but also the mind. That extra meter your body thinks it cant run, your mind takes over and does it for you.
In regards to the backrow and Lucy next year if it happens to be that he shares the role next so be it. This season would of made him better off either way. Remember he played over 60mins 2 times for Saints before he joined us. In addition he has lost a heap of weight where he would play with a much larger frame two years prior. For some people that makes them more effective for others it can weaken them. See Fifita and JWH’s comments when coaches have tried to strip kilos off them and how they felt about it.

I rate Luciano, a lot. I don’t want to lose him but it’s about getting the most out of the players you have. Luciano is a weapon. Using him for 80mins mitigates any sort of effectiveness and most import any he becomes a liability in defence. The same with Liddle. Alternating between him and Simpkin in each have I think can be better off than just chucking Simpkin on with 20 to go.

Could be the case next year. In my opinion Simpkin is getting time in firsts now because the lower tier comp has ceased not because we need to give Liddle a rest.
Maybe with the benefit of pushing themselves through the levels of fatigue they endured this year they will be better off individually and the team will be better off if they are relied upon to see out the whole match due to whatever circumstances.

I would be very happy with Bateman and Thompson as that would just complete our pack moving forward. Bateman was the link in the Raiders GF run and shows how to carry a team.. I don't want to get excited but we do have a few things going our way for Bateman as he already has 2 current players coming here, Sheens has been over there for 10 years and would know him and if we got him we would have a better chance of getting Thompson as well.. Fingers crossed we are at least looking into this as we have the money for both.

I thought I also heard we have offered LL an extension and if that's the case does anyone know how that is going ?

We'd be silly not to sign up Thompson and Bateman, both of them deserve another chance in the NRL - but at no more than $400-$450K p/y

Ricky did it and resurrected the Faiders in 2019 with John and George. With Jackson and Oliver joining us in 2022 it's a no brainer, instant chemistry!

There is NO chance of getting either Batman or Thompson for under 450k as they are international players but that's just my opinion.
Batman 500-600k might do it and Thompson 650k with Dogs contributing a 200k first year to make up his current salary of 850k. We need to be realistic as we are not a top team and guaranteeing them finals etc..

can i raise any interest in dean britt ,darren britts son.He was at souths and then an uneventful time at canterbury.
being ditched by canterbury wouldnt look good on your resume but he does tackle hard and has some ball skills

Could be a younger Mark Nicholls type signing. Moved to prop this year and had been playing really strong for Mounties in the NSW Cup.

Yeah the Bateman figure sounds about right although if I recall he was on about 600k at the raiders so that mightn’t be enough to lure him down. Thompson though, 650k is too much. I’d be looking at 500-550k for him.

I do remember.

Bateman would have to be on 500k or less, he's still a risk. Add incentives to make it more lucrative. Can we regain his past form or was that his peak of his career and it's all downhill and be an expensive flop?

Our second row still requires a lot of improvement.

LL is just lazy. He's not fit and probably never will be. It's been his issue the past 5 years and no major breakthroughs. He;s a 40-50 min player max, or realistically an impact player off the bench.

Blore needs a lot of improvement. His attack has been poor - has he made a single tackle break this season? His defence is solid, has an offload and he makes decent metres but needs to threaten the line more. Hopefully another offseason and and some more experience will help him take the next step.

Garner is just average all round. The new MCK for 2022. If he's getting gametime we're in trouble.

Kelma, still too early in his development to say. Unlike Blore his attack has showed promise with a couple of strong tries already. His defence needs more work though.

No one is even close to locking down a position in the second row next season.

I disagree with blore

He has been fantastic defensively

He runs great lines and has hands of steel to take somr of the shockers brooks throws at him

If we actually picked up Bateman and Thompson I’d be ecstatic imagine our pack:

8.Stefano
9.Liddle
10.Thompson
11.Blore
12.Lucy
13.Bateman

14.Twal
15.Mikaele
16.Joffa/Seyfarth
17.Simpkin/Hastings

I like this. Tough in the middle. I would like to upgrade Lucy though and have him come off the bench. Someone like a Hellum Luki to start at 12. I think that kid will be a star.

How does Kelma go? Haven’t watched much reserve grade.
