The biggest recruitment and retention failure we have had revolves around a lack of on field leadership.

We lost Benji Marshall, Chris Lawrence and Elijah Taylor in quick succession.

Other players we had looked at for leadership like Packer, Mautalino, Musgrave,McQueen, Thompson and a couple of others did not work out for one reason or another.

These players were never replaced. All we got was a washed up James Tahmou.

It has been an epic failure to understand what we had lost and do very little to replace it. Imo its the main reason we are where we are right now. A laughing stock!

Regardless of who coaches this mess not much will change without some on field leadership. For that reason we need at least 3 good quality on field leaders.More if we can release some contracted players who arent shaping up.

Hastings and Doueihi are what i would call on field leaders but we need to add to that.

**Tariqu Sims is a must**.

Luke Thompson and John Bateman would also help if we could fluke one of them.

The cupboard is pretty bare, we have left it too late to identify the problem.

Hopefully a couple more senior players are set to be shopped around, we sure as hell need them.

Have you seen how he plays for the Dragqueens? He plays well in SOO but that’s it. He would be horrible here, Packer 2.0

Luch is better than him. Better defensively and more run metres. Also has an offload.

Let me guess tackle efficiency. It doesn’t count for a stat if you just hide from the collision

Makes more tackles and missed less.

Tariq made more tackles in 21 games than Lucy did in 24 games 712 to 700. Most of Tariq’s misses happened in the 1st half of year, backend of the season he hit form.

Sims last 4 games could only dream of Lucy having these stats

V Raiders 43 tackles missed 1 @ Backrow
V Roosters 50 tackles missed 1 @ Lock
V Cowboys 33 tackles missed 0 @ Backrow
V Souths 30 tackles missed 0 @ Backrow

The thing with Lucy is he gets out of position and comes way infield and doesn’t get back into position. Sims doesn’t do that.

Do I think Sims would add value - yes but only on a short term deal and not stupid cash. $350-400k for 2yrs would be a good value deal.

How bad is the signing of Suli? They said 3 years and 1.5million, right? Why is a club signing him on that money? He's not starting for Manly and neither of those centres are top shelf either. That one really baffles me. Does anyone have some insight into it? Suli is a 1st grader, or at least a fringe first grader, but I never would have thought that he'd get a contract like that.

If we are honest this thread can be temp closed until after the club announce if Madge is staying and if not until another coach has been announced. No one is coming until that is settled and they scares me as there is not many left and if we wait any longer we get nothing.. We finally have ample money and no one to spend it on :face_with_rolling_eyes:
Such a shame as we have a great young core and just need to add 3-4 solid players that are prepared to lead and we are a top 8 team.
The other option is sign a player/s after Nov 1 for 2023 and hope they can get an early release and this is becoming the best option.

Just gotta wait for sheensy to work out how to turn on his lap top, connect to VPN, zoom, sort out his audio settings then work out why we signed so many nuffies.

How bad is the signing of Suli? They said 3 years and 1.5million, right? Why is a club signing him on that money? He's not starting for Manly and neither of those centres are top shelf either. That one really baffles me. Does anyone have some insight into it? Suli is a 1st grader, or at least a fringe first grader, but I never would have thought that he'd get a contract like that.

I thought it was 1.7m he signed for....
Big money for a inconsistent player but might change when he gets there. On his day he is unstoppable

I think Roberts had two or three off field misdemeanours (minor), hardly played, missed tackles, couldn’t find space, dropped balls. I know park footy players would have contributed more.

It’s not just tigers who take risks on potential…although Manly did seem to get more out of him than the previous clubs.

And it’s still less than what we paid for his first year? Wasn’t it reported we paid $650 for a 0 NRL gamer which was a record?
