Some talk on NRL360 of potentially Ciraldo to be head coach. What are people's thoughts? I think it could be a circuit breaker. Pair him with Sheens as a mentor who could add clout to our brand and ability to attract players, and put the right assistant coaches around him (mix of steady older respected guys and other rising younger assistants) and we might start to build a bit of buzz for recruiting.

He could probably jag a couple of key blokes from his Penrith knowledge and links to them, and it might just be enough to get another couple of key potential recruits over the line as well. Once you can start building momentum as a destination club, it can snowball.

Could possibly build instant rapport with our young core as well and bring them on even quicker. Couldn't do worse in terms of our current defensive structures. Could be a corner turner moment.

I can see Ciraldo doing a Ivan Cleary to us. Penrith will want him back when they sack Ivan Cleary at the end of 2022.

Panthers won’t dump Ivan until they’re ready to punt Nathan.

Wanna bet? He'll get next year... That squad will start to dis-assemble and the window will close, If he goes out in straight sets this year he'll be under pressure... If they don't do well next - I certainly wouldn't be betting on him to hold his spot.... Especially if the want for Ciraldo at another club increases - They'll be forced to chose, Ivan will be finishing up a contract - And it won't matter to them....

Penrith will keep the core of their players together for the majority of their careers. Crichton, Cleary, To'o, Martin, Luai, JFH, Leota, Leniu, Yeo etc. with players like that you are going to be somewhere near the top for the next few years. I don't see that squad changing drastically anytime soon.

Capewell and Burton are leaving but will be replaced by Martin and Turuva, who is going to be a superstar. they're set. as much as I would love to see Ivan to fail, they will win a premiership in the next 3 years with or without him. that window is open for the next 5 years at absolute minimum.

What’s quite interesting though is that they have long term players in most roles already. They have all come through together and in a similar vintage but it’s going to be hard to see they will have room for their next superstar in an important position except for maybe fullback. If their production line is so strong then there will be a lot of opportunity to mine that because there is very limited opportunity in the Panthers senior side in the next 5 years

If "how are they going to fit in the next superstar" is their biggest problem I imagine they'll survive. Personally I suspect fewer of those places are locked in for more than a couple of years than you think. Nathan Cleary will obviously be there forever but honestly I'm not sure who else they're totally devoted to. They've already let Burton and Capewell go and it seems Kikau will follow next season, which suggests they're keeping a cool head about retention and not just bidding on everyone. I can't see them overspending to keep many of their players if they have something coming through they rate.

I really don’t like the idea of rookie coach’s , the Titans and the knights have not gone great with there super coach’s from the rooters

Both playing finals which is about the ceiling you can hope for when u look at the top rosters.

Edit: although I’m not keen on a rookie coach in our current predicament unless they bring a couple of rep players along.

Key to a rookie coach succeeding would be the assistant coaches around him and club support (say in our instance Director of Coaching - Tim Sheens -support).

What are the key things we are looking for in a coach at the moment:

- establishing a rapport and buy in with a young core and senior players (possible similar position to Penrith 3 years ago).
- attract key signings.
- improve defensive structures.
- best able to implement systems that fit the modern game.
- improve culture.

Need to identify which available coach ticks the most boxes.

Without point two you can throw away the other criteria

And point 2 is one Madge really falls down on, there are others as well

How is this being upvoted. I know everyone is in the 'we all hate Nofa' phase and admittedly he has been well below his best. But to say an untested rookie who has literally never played a game is better than last years Dally M Winger of the Year is just ridiculous. Even at his worst I really felt (unlike most here) that Nofa actually was trying really hard at the backend of the year. And also all of you guys constantly bemoan the lack of passion that anyone has for the Tigers jersey but he's one of the few that has actually been loyal to the club from the beginning. Yes he had a bad year and yes its frustrating for all of us but how about we try and back him and hope he gets back to form next season. If he doesn't then this conversation can hold a lot more weight.

I would like him a lot better if he stayed on his bloody wing and didnt run sideways

Scolari is faster and can defend

We've all said the same thing about Nofo eh.
Every game.
Running side ways like a headless chicken.
Absolutely woeful.

He's got a lengthy contract so he's not going anywhere but I hope he can regain form next year and run straight.

Scolari is very fast.
I hope we see him in grade.

Everyone pumping up Ciraldo’s tyres. Which basket case club has he ever fixed?

To me, Ciraldo is a career Assistant Coach, there is nothing there that would inspire me if he was named as the Tigers coach. Now if you got Kristian Wolf from St Helens or Shane Wane, that would be different otherwise stick with Maguire and give him the personal to succeed. I would start with 2 new assistant coaches who can implement an attacking and defensive strategy that does not consist of players running backwards.

Maybe a stint in reggies might regain some of his form, that"s if Lee lets the coach drop him.

IF we stick with Maguire, then on the one hand it will demonstrate a willingness to have stability in the role, but on the other, it will take accountability for performance out of the equation, with the club essentially accepting the mediocrity of his tenure as a coach. I am not sure that unless in the off season we off load the dead wood we have on massive money that we can afford quality players. Hence, I can understand the predicament the club find itself in, of its own doing of course. Surely Tim Sheens has been brought in to sort things out, and that must include coach and players. I'd rather see 13 (young and unknown) players out there, busting their behinds in every game, then the retirees we've signed. We need to take the long view but only with a coach that has the influence and the motivational skills to take a team to the top. To paraphrase "if I see them building it, I will come".

Really how do u keep a coach who over 3 years the defence has got worse each year . Also the attack is deadset woeful . So if he has failed on those two accounts what the hell has he achieved to keep his job .

This is the thing I hope the club realise, If you keep Madge now, he has to stay another 2 years. If we keep him now and he’s let go 10 games in or even at seasons end, we are absolutely stuffed as his replacement Will instantly be set up to fail.

I’d you give him a squad the that’s bottom of the table roster before a balls bounced he’s probably exceeded expectations. That’s unless you suffer from WTDS. Wests Tigers Delusion Syndrome.
The coach doesn’t have autonomy on roster creation and his leaders are not doing a good job.

If there’s a better candidate fine but the Madge hate is so biased it’s bordering a witch hunt.

Re Nofoaluma
If he decides to run stright, he is one of our best, the attack was always his only strength!
However, he is our chronic defensive weakness, is it his inability or discipline, but he did not show any sign of improvement in his 6-7 years. He is the NRL's undisputed champion in how not to position or read the game.
My verdict is: sell him at any cost!

If they keep him they have to give him open slather to get rid of players he sees as dragging the young guys down.
Not sure if he is too loyal or his hands have been tied.

Interesting that Zac Lomax brother (on a development contract) has been given the flick from the Dragons.
Hope he gets his nose out of joint.

Nof is a beacon for opposition attack, if I were a team playing us I would run plays down his edge all game.
Which is what happens and it usually works for them.
Some say he’s loyal ..... maybe, but I reckon he’s the guy leaking all the locker room talk to the media.
It’s been happening for 5 or 6 years now, I use to think it was Farah but it was still happening after he left.
He’s not worth the trouble on field or off.

I agree.

He has his fans.
No doubt he could be a real draw card player but it won't happen whilst he's not playing to his ability.

And he's not getting any younger.
I'd be shopping him if we could but I think he's a protected species.

The problem is the club....
We've taken an average footballer and turned him into some sort of god - There's fans with tattoos of him on them for gods sake.
At any other Club, He's an Ikavalu or Jennings - Only gets run out when there's injuries in front of him.
