All this discussion is useless if the players have no heart and continues to give up in games.

This is a culture issue.

Maguire is the leader and should be driving cultural change. I guess it's only been 3 years and according to many the culture is still garbage. What does that tell you?

It tells you it takes a long time to fix a rotten culture and you need the support of everyone to do it.

Or, that there is nothing wrong with the culture in the joint and it is being used as an excuse.

I would think only making the playoffs 3 times since the merger over 20 years ago would put that many holes in your theory even a Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon supporter would find it hard to believe it especially considering 50% of the teams make it every year

We're a merge of two clubs that always had to fight hard to field competitive teams. Making the playoffs 3 times in 20 years is perhaps indicative of that fact. It doesn't lesson my support for WTs, Balmain or Wests.

We were on the verge of a being highly competitive a few years ago with the emergence of highly talents juniors. I am glad we are revisiting that strategy.

To blame it on our culture is a furphy.

So being a retirement destination and taking payments and not putting in is not a culture issue. Ok.

The word culture gets tossed about so frequently on this forum that it eventually becomes a truth.

The desertion of Australian troops was the reason for the fall of Singapore in Feb 42 if you believed folklore. It was repeated so often it became a fact to many but it was not the truth.

The club has brought in a coaching director and is hiring two new assistants. Actions v words.

Culture:
The ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society.

Wests Tigers culture has been crap for over a decade, even longer. The current coach is trying to change that. It takes time to overcome a decade+ of rubbish.

The coach may be trying to do a lot of things but after 3 years it's apparent he doesn't have it. A coaching director and assistants approved by those above him are not good indicators of faith in his ability.

Nonsense, it takes years to fix the mistakes of the past and Madge is the coach to do it.

I support the WTs, Magpies and Balmain. I cannot support Maguire because he has brought the club to its lowest ebb (and flow).

Jason Taylor got us to equal last that was and still is our lowest ebb since the merger

Why did he bring in Bj and Jimmy the jet then. Not sure they are the blokes you want to change the culture within your club.

I don't thin Roberts is that bad for culture. He is honest about his problems and seeks help when needed.

Roberts is fine for culture, although its possible were more important for him..
..and with club option for another year at a extremely modest $$$,its VERY tempting to lock him in Eddie..particularly in a position where I dont believe we have one legitimate 1st grader atm
..but then he becomes yet another fringe 1st grader in a team that already has about 25 of em
Rinse..repeat..as they say

Great thread. How lame is Morgan Harper? Again, a knob who will make a career out of looking like he’s going to an 80s party every day.

Harper has to be the worst defensive centre in the NRL,with Suli and one or two Tigers not far behind.Pairing him with Saab was never going to end well
Shows the criticality of centre defence..particularly not rushing up out of the line..hope Madge was paying attention

I’d settle for having a defender in front of the attacking player

True and the truth hurts. Maybe another couple on the bench. With our roster we are over achieving in all truthfulness if we can in in the top 12. Should no need to blame others, the blame game is only good for whinges and whiners that blame others for them r mistakes. We don’t have the cattle atm. But we will get there. Just need to be patient. Still suffering the errors of others. Some mistakes and errors in decision take years to get a past. Though many don’t understand or like that. But is a fact we are dealing with.

The reality is, we're going to struggle to attract players while Maguire remains as head coach.

And how many really. If I look at that list, I think only Stefano makes either of the teams today.

Even Laurie, as much as we love him, may make only 2-3 NRL Clubs. Brooks probably the same.

And we’ll struggle to attract coaches if we sack another coach, especially when that coach was very successful before arriving here.

You could be right. I feel it’s more the decision by the club that they won’t pay overs. If we offered huge money to the players we missed they would be here IMO
