Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Not our news obviously but still related somewhat.
Dogs are hoping to fill all 30 positions by the weekend. We’ve heard the whispers re Burns as a back, but there is also a Forward on the horizon.

Since everyone is guessing.
Im going to say Poasa Faumisuli.
Signed on a two year deal by Mary at the Dragons after a really impressive 2020 but for whatever reason despite the lack of forwards isn’t getting the game time. In addition Francis Molo, Jaydn Sua and George Burgess arriving.

God I hope not. He’s a powderpuff

Yes I know he was pretty poor in games this year for them. But 2020 he was at one stage playing as one of the best young props in the game. It’s just my guess, didnt say I was in favour of it, but I do get the feeling it’s someone who is the wrong ‘fit’ that is being squeezed out of their current club.

Could be Thommo.

I would probably entertain a thomo for Musgrove swap.

I agree, I definitely would be down for that. With Thommo what you see is what you get. Mus is largely and unknown and has so far failed to live up to any hype. Seems to have regular long term injury woes which have prevented him hitting any real form. Thommo is quality, hard hitting and hard running.

I would like thommo as a strong experienced first leader.

But don't think the club would swap Musgrove. He only signed a long term deal last year, apparently for understanding what dragons offered him because he wanted to play under madge.

He had that shocker against Parramatta but had a sesson ending injury from that game so assume he was injured affected.

Would like to see Musgrove with a full preseason and a string of games to establish himself. He's strong and aggressive which is what we need

Musgrove is the forgotten man. If he can get past this foot injury for good, he's a mainstay in this pack. He's a fantastic prop.

As long as he is willing to spend some extra time on his positioning and mobility in D. He was a bit too rigid for my liking and often would arm grab. Though I also recall Joffa doing that on more than several occasions so could of just been a symptom of a larger issue.

It sure has been fun being a Tigers supporter for the past 33 years. I guess I just need to be more patient.

His last game for us (I think it was vs Manly) was one of the worst performances i've ever seen from an NRL player.

Couple of lazy arm grab attempts up the middle and Tommy/Cherry absolutely carved us up.

It definitely was but pretty much every other games he's played for us has been solid/good or better. Wish he would stop getting injured, just money on the sideline all year

His best is solid but his worst is tragic. And he's never fit anyway. Signing him for 3 years was stupid.

Man we are patient been waiting for players for 3 years.

So Laurie, Doueihi, Setfano, Blore, Simpkin, Simpkins, Tuilagi don’t count? Juniors are our way forward. That’s the plan.

We need some experience too.

I get that, but ‘waiting for players for 3 years’ comment simply ignores what has been done to date.

I read this comment and had to look back a few posts. There’s a couple of other players of ours that you could have been referring to for us this season…

If Taylor is looking at taking a Trial and train deal at Warriors then it's fair to say the Tigers haven't shown any interest in him.

Not when it gets reported by the media - ready for the stories about how Ash Taylor rejected a deal at the Tigers to take a chance with a train and trial at the Warriors :face_palm:

Hooper: Ash Taylor retires at the age of 26, upon interviewing Ash it became clear the only club interested was the Tigers. They offered him a 5yr deal for close to the 1M he was on at the Titans however after careful consideration (all of about 5 seconds) he declined and felt it best to just retire instead of playing for the Tigers.

He thought retirement was better for his career than with us ?

We were leading that game I believe , until he came on with chee kam . That 20 min stint literally lost us the game . Turbo went through his corridor repeatedly , so the other edge tightened , and they went through there instead . I’m not in the business of blaming sole players for losses , but he should not have been playing that game . Whether it was bad management from our medical team or him not being honest with himself about where his body was at , I don’t know , but that was not ok .
Speaking of which , so much was made of Gray and his supposed game changing performance team , but I gotta say , we were better u der the previous high performance team .
He sent us backwards if anything . We looked better for the calendar , but that’s about it .

We have picked up some good juniors lately.

But since Ivan cleary and madge we have not picked up an above decent experienced recruit.
Five years I think.

Anything else you would like to add?

The way out of the mess for the Wests Tigers are the juniors. There is no quick fix or magical cure. The recruitment processes have changed as a result to reflect this.

Hopefully this will calm a few in here down.

If you think there isn’t some plan in place, you would have to be crazy.

We got into this mess originally through impulse buys. That approach again will not solve the problem.

If ready is correct with this plan, I’m all for it.

Not sure if you’re serious about this take on the “plan”

Have you not followed this organisation long ? ?

Too long unfortunately, but everything the past 12-24 months has been aimed at fixing mistakes of the past.

Surely we learn from previous mistakes.

So basically everything we've heard the past few days have been made up.

Potentially, who’s to say it’s not a mix of both?

But with how many rumors that get spread about our club. The hit rate is very low.

To be honest I know little about the Tigers performance team past or present however I def felt many games we looked completely gassed at times. Whether it was the 15mins before halftime or the final 15mins of the game we just looked completely underdone fitness wise. Hard to believe when Madge is such a task master with his teams being super fit.

A lot comes down to their mental state too though and mental toughness. With a large number of the team very young they possibly haven't developed the mental toughness to play for 80mins every week. I personally find it tiresome and boring as hell to run drills and laps or go for distance runs however come game day I can easily pump out 80mins without a sub even at 39 so I doubt it's a physical fitness issue.

I feel the team might be better off looking at a sports psychologist of sorts to mentally prepare the players better, to start faster instead of lumbering into matches and only switching on when down by 24. Help the players recognize and distinguish the difference/triggers of mental fatigue over physical fatigue and help them find ways to push through it even under pressure.
