Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

When was Musgrove contract extended to 2024? His papers should have been stamped after the Anzac Day match v Manly

He was injured . He shouldn’t have been playing that day . I’m pretty sure he got the needle and his legs were numb or something like that . I could be misremembering though.
As for why he was playing , whether it was his dishonesty with himself about where his body was at, or gross malpractice from our medical staff , I have no idea , but even on the day , his performance was so bad , it made no sense at all .

Hodgson will be 32 but his game has never been about speed. Many players, even Farah, depend a lot on speed and so couldn't play to the same level when they got older. Others who play with craft sometimes even get better at this age. You can't just say he's 32 so he's rubbish.

Examples:
Cameron Smith played another excellent five years after turning 32.
Cooper Cronk was another who seemed to get better.
Cliffy Lyons was another, Jason Smith also played well in his mid 30s.
Ben Kennedy helped change the culture of Manly when he joined them in his early 30s.
Luke Lewis was in great form throughout his 30s.
Alfie Langer too.

Hodgson is the exact sort of player who should be able to maintain good form for at least a couple years. His game is quality passing, good direction, competitiveness and craft. I think he's a great player for us to have a go on. If it doesn't work out I don't see it being that big a deal. Hate the negativity around every move we make.

I think it depends on who you have around you and how much heavy lifting the other players do and the quality of the other players

Because no way in hell Cameron Smith plays to 37 at the Tigers no way and if he does it's in Reggie's

I've heard zero from the club about Hodgson being chased. So what that says to me is that when he stays a Raider or moves to Gold Coast, it will be yet another baseless story about how Wests Tigers botched the signing.

When Journo's start interviewing and quoting other journo's as if it's fact, it's time for the funny farm.

It is the other side of the story that gets too me. Liddle is a very fine player and a loyal WT. I believe he is a captain in waiting at WTs. He is articulate and presents well. He has made an amazing recovery from a very serious knee injury. Injuries of this type take a long time to overcome. I know this as my brother in law was a physio at two former first grade clubs. These posts which want to move him on are in very poor form.

I like and respect Liddle. For tigers to be top eight we need above average players. Is he in the top 4-8 hookers? I personally think he’s reached his ceiling hence the whole not in the future plans talk.

Josh Hodgson hasn't been in the top 4-8 hookers for the past two years, and sure as hell isn't going to be in two years' time.

Josh Hodgson is an international hooker. Are you kidding me?

Here are some other international players, all coincidentally around the same age as Hodgson: James Tamou. Russell Packer. Aaron Woods. Brad Takairangi. Elijah Taylor. Dean Whare. Will Chambers. Josh McGuire. Matt Gillett. Josh Dugan. Gerard Beale. Andrew Fifita. Mahe Fonua. Konrad Hurrell. Ben Murdoch-Masila.

How many of those would you put in the top 4-8 in their position as of October 2021?

So a guy turns 31 and he is no good anymore is what you are saying? Nice way to generalise you goose.

First off, he’ll be 32. Second 2 ACL’s in 3 years can pretty much end you. Especially north of 30.

He came back this year and still offered more than Liddle

Not in any game I saw. He was old, slow, struggled in defence and hindered Canberra's attack.

What did you think of Liddles year ?

Personally, the stand out was that break he made in that one game and ran the field.

Otherwise, he just seems a middle of the road 9.

I remember reading reports saying Simpkin was higher rated than Harry Grant , when he was Jake's age.

Definitely seems to have a higher ceiling.

Hard to judge a kid at 19, but i haven’t seen anything to suggest he’ll be anything close to Harry. Didn’t really stand out at all. Definitely didn’t show what Farah did at the same age. Seems very meat and potatoes.

Fair assessment.

With Smith gone, Grant will be this current crops best hooker of the game. I'm a huge fan of his.

Simpkin was playing Q cup at a young age though and as we all know ( @happy_tiger ) is the best comp outside of the NRL where the stars cut their teeth.

And the meat and potatoes is why some one like Hodgson will be beneficial to unlocking his potential and taking his game to the next level.

Liddle is OK, middle tier 9... Simpkin could, (prime word) be better. Has a bit more strike to his game, urgency and awareness.

End of the day, it's all roster management.... I'd like to think with Hodgson & Jake we are in a strong position and Liddles contract puts us in a good place got negotiating a trade to improve our roster even more....

I know everyone wants another prop but the backs are very poor. I like Cotric and with talks of him on the table for the Eels, we should he asking the questions. He's been hanging out with Adam Douihei all day the bonds are already in place.

/rant ??

I’m pretty sure Simpkin players colts at the time we signed him. He may of played 1 Q cup game.

Yeah I think that's correct.

Still, 19 and didn't look out of place in grade.
Few things to work on and hopefully he's the next Harry Grant to break through.

C Smith was a freak. His ability to play in a dinner suit all those years as hooker beggars belief.
As good as grant and smith ju are, they still get bashed with a great team around them and will probably be worn out by 30.

If we sign hodgson, I’m confident we get 20 or so games out of him over 2 years whilst a youngster gets experience.

I recall, the nrl physio mentioning that listfranc fractures are very difficult to recover from when he did the injury the first time.
He re aggravated the one from the year prior.
I’m sure he spent a couple of game in KOE cup but I can’t recall if that was after or before the manly games.

Yes. The cash for Jordan Hill (whoever that is) was used for Sheensy.

Eg. Game 3 next year - he does his ACL again,

Oh! no problem put Liddle in there, unfortunately we let him go, because we put faith in an old man.

Not to worry we can bring up Simpkin, unfortunately he won't be ready for another 2 years if ever.

Now your talking - we can play the Peach.

Oh! God, unfortunately I can see this happening.

Oh Russell what if we don’t sign Hodgson and Jacob god forbid does his ACL in rd 3…what then

Sam Burgess anyone?

Have you watched SAS?

He won... but yeah, he said it himself;
"My shoulder is cooked."

Won't play again it seems.

Never held us back in the past, why start now

It isn’t. It’s why we look like signing a 32 year old with no knees.

I wonder if Hodgsons ridiculous signing had anything to do with Hartigan going?

Why is it ridiculous. He's much better than what we have and provides the leadership and game management that Brooks has proven to be completely incapable of

It’s ridiculous because it’s the exact kind of signing people have been complaining about for years. A once great player that we pick up 3 or 4 years past his use by date on a long term, inflated contract. The forum has turned into the twilight zone over the last 48 hours thinking this is a great signing.

It shows how desperate everyone is to have a leader in our spine.

I'd just like someone with a spine in the team 🙂

Poor Woodsy. What was looking like being a one club legend has turned into a journeyman plodder who will see out his career on one year contracts with any club that will take him.

Mate this is a ridiculous argument. He's been over in Super League, therefore unable to secure a starting spot. Not fair at all.

When he was in the NRL he was young and inexperienced, and if you've watched him play since then you'd realise the absurdity of your argument. He's an NRL standard half.
