Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Thank you! Spot on. Let’s get behind the team and the coaching staff. We’ll have more setbacks no doubt. However hopefully we see a lot of growth over next few years that out weighs any other troubles. I have a lot of hope for what Hastings might bring to the club and the way he’ll compliment Laurie, AD, Brooks and hopefully Hodgson and Simpkin. Our forwards are young but many showing promise.

There are better times ahead I’m sure and enthusiastic fans can help bring it on!

It is very difficult to follow this team at the moment - 5 months out from the 2022 season and the knowledge that with this team we are a 'bottom 3' lock. COE will be great and juniors are promising - everything else can be summed up with 'meh'!

I’m starting to feel more confident following football department position restructuring. Lee appears to have walked away from the board having more say in hiring coaching staff and Sheens appears to have bargained his way into an autonomous position where he can also write his own job description. The board can now focus on counting restaurant covers and organising entertainment, and leave the footy to those who know what they’re doing.

Lee footy talk has died down.

Must admit starting to feel optimism that will most likely suck me into membership again

Optimism is difficult to find in our current predicament. I suggest not trying to extract the tiny amount that we have left.

An optismistic outlook is innate in certain individuals no matter the circumstances just like pessimism - sometimes it's out of our control.

Optimism based on what?

Just a personal feeling I guess

But think it's good

Lee less footy talk
Same with pacoe
Tim Sheens back
Focus on junior development
Hartigan gone
See what happens with signings

Think could be heading in right direction

No worse than this time last year. We still had Reynolds on the books and hadn’t signed Laurie as yet.. COE about to open, Sheens is shaking things up. Also we have space in the cap with roster spots. IMO it’s a step up.

Optimism will slowly raise until it peaks in March…just before we see the boys play and the hammer falls.
Some will blowup and some will have a go at them saying it’s only March, don’t wet the bed.
Wash, rinse, repeat.

As it stands now I have zero optimism about season 2022. Of course two or three very solid signings could change everything. Our pathways system is still a few years away from delivering a NRL standard player if we can keep them. The Sheens thing is a massive gamble and I don’t think he is the messiah that other people do.

All Iam hoping for is effort and commitment

My only concern is Sheens is coming back from English league to ours and ours is harder and faster , I’m also not sure what Sheens coaching record is after grand final win in 2005 with the Tigers , how did he go over in England , I know Madge is our coach but sheens will be buying his troops

I'm in the optimism camp. Personally I can't understand how anyone could subject themselves to the torture of following this club without at least a tiny bit of optimism (or at least hope?)

I think Hastings is the medicine we need.
I think our young guns will be a bit less young and a bit more gun.
We will 100% make some extra signings over the next couple of months.
I have the unpopular opinion that Gildart will be a star.
I even think AJ will go well this year.

My only real concern is that the Panthers will stinge on repairs to the trophy before they have to hand it over next year.

There was not a line of clubs in the UK trying to sign him so perhaps even they thought he was out of touch. Not a great prospect is it

People forget he was without a gig in Australia for some time before he went to the UK as well...
Not many people people know Football like Tim Sheens knows Football - How that translates to our organisation is yet to be determined.

According to the herald, Paul Momirovski looking to get out of his Panthers deal.

Might be dolphin bound?

nah he's trying to get out of 2022, wants more money due to his success in recent years, and the security of a longer deal his agent is exploring interest. manly and warriors along with roosters apparently interested.

How come the DT aren't bagging the rorters for letting him go in the first place. And now they want to pay him more to come back yet we are the basket case.

The DT and most NRL media have a simple formula. Pick the worst team in the NRL and paint them out to be a basket case until they either start winning or fire their coach. They work their way up from the bottom of the ladder. If a team has a rookie coach then they are exempt from being painted. If you look at the bottom 6 teams we are the only team without a rookie coach so we are being targeted.

2005 style footy would suit with today’s rules

Maybe we'd have dominated...
We don't have those players anymore though
- And our forwards would have been a bit slow today
