Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Brett Kenny was Australia 5/8 before wally Lewis .that says alot .

I don't think that is correct, Lweis played for Australia in 1981, Kenny first played tests in 1982 V the Poms at Hull, after Cranky Frank Stanton dropped Wally.

A lot of angst about not signing anyone on here. I'm not saying we're going well, but there's been very few signings by anyone since Nov 1 and none of the big names have signed anywhere.

Obviously this year there wasn't a lot of dodgy early negotiations and they've actually waited until the signing period opens.

I'm sure there's plenty of opportunity for disappointment at the club but our lack of signings this week is only in line with every other club at the moment.

I agree. The dolphins still haven’t signed anyone and they have 30 roster spots to fill. I’m sure we’ll see some activity a few weeks after Sheens settles in.

I know wts have zero luck in signing players and playing them out of position but if I could suggest one, get Harris-tevita and play him in the centres. He's not shy in defence and has a good turn of pace, plus he provides some cover for the halves which wouldn't hurt right now.

Daley was better than good.

Daley, Kenny & Fittler all great 6's

Benji too

I am a Benji tragic, but he is just not in Daley, Kenny or Fittler's class.

Though it must be said that Benji was arguably as exciting, if not more exciting, to watch week-to-week. Yes, a champion at both club and rep level and a deserved Golden Boot winner, but I wouldn't put him on their level.

Because beyond pure brilliance, all round game, ability to single-handedly turn contests AND a winning CV; they had the one thing that puts them in the "greatness" discussion - consistency.

From 2013 onwards, Benji was nothing more than an above average first grader. He’s the NRL version of a famous musician who sold millions of albums and sold out stadiums all over the world, who eventually had to resort to playing in pubs.

Blasphemer.

Garry jack set the standard for modern fullbacks

Garry was my favourite player of all time, but he was an old school fullback. Great defence, very strong runner, great at chiming in at the right time but no passing game to speak of. I think slater was the progenitor of the modern fullback

Benji is a fair way behind them

Completely agree,Benji at his best was the equal of all of them but his form was so erratic he would not compare to any of them as far as reliability was concerned

Benji was in a team with no stars while the others were in an all star cast.

Agreed. Benji was behind a bottom level packs compared to those others.

When was the last time we had a great pack and bench forwards? Been a bloody long time. Probably the main reason we haven’t seen finals. I remember Sheens’s pack’s where not much bigger than hobbits. He quickly moved on the big boys. I just hope that policy does not come back.

his manager Tarak, bleatted about that, how low rate our forwards were, yet most mobile,,as it was hitting the fan.god bless Benjimane Quenton Marshall

Not sure about playing him at centre but if we lose Brooks and need another halfback he's a good option

He got in their class the day of the Cronulla try in 05.

Was it at Campbelltown that Benji scored or set up six tries on debut in U20s and the great Arthur Beetson was there scouting for Easts. He wanted Benji immediately for the Roosters.

I'd rate Marshall at least a good light-year-and-a-half behind those other three.

Its a different game now - it is almost impossible to compare players from different eras. In my view with Beni with his skills, back then he would have been the GOAT. In 10-15 years from now his skills will have been surpassed

You just can't make comparisons from different times
