Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

There's a bounce in our step with these posts giving some chance to our squad being strengthened.
But as a wise man once said, let's wait till the news is actually from the club.
Then we'll dance the dance.

A lot of people responding it’s Api Korisau. Didn’t want to disclose to jeopardise any deal with a rumour but it’s in the papers tomorrow.

I’m told it’s a done deal.

Done deal. Big call. Would be a good signing

Done I’m ?

Hope your right mate.. Do you know if it will go down this week or next week?
DT sounds like next week.
Cheers for the Info mate

I’m told it’s done I’d say tomorrow.

Api is a big fan of Madge.

As mentioned, unless any last minute foolery.
100% on.

This is the advantage of keeping a coach into a second term. Players don't wanna go to a team for a specific coach if said coach has an axe looming over his head or is about to leave. No one wants to play in a team where it feels like you don't have the secure head figure to burden.

The best condition for a sports team is when a player can perform their training skills instinctively. Instinct only takes over when something has been drilled into them for years. When Madge went to Souths, they had a squad full of seasoned pros who had spent the last several years learning how to be a proper professional in the NRL. Guys like Roy Asotasi, Michael Crocker, John Sutton, Greg Inglis, Isaac Luke, Jason Clark, Dave Tyrell, Sam Burgess were all hardened in first grade by the time Madge got there.

He didn't have that when he got here. But slowly guys are starting to come along. Doueihi, Stefano, Laurie and Maumalo have all shown that they can compete with the best players in the competition in their opposite number.

Hopefully in 2022 we will see more players rise to that higher echelon of player. Blore, Seyfarth, and Twal have it in them to cause waves.

We can't just build a team around a halfback. Unless you have a legend of the game like Thurston or Cronk, you need more than 50% of your starting team to be guns. Guys who can carry themselves in a game regardless of how their teammates perform (think Waerea-Hargreaves from the Roosters - goes to another level when his teammates are failing)

Surely the plan is Api for 22, 23, 24.

Would be a hard sell considering the Panthers are yet again a premiership threat. They would have no desire to weaken themselves downgrading from their premiership hooker to a Kenny, Liddle, etc...

Listen Liddle is a superstar and just what a team like Panthers need, a hooker who can punch out a quality 20 mins and pass poorly

Yet Liddle is still a better player than Simpkin who suffers from white line fever as well as everything else you criticise Liddle for

who is 9 games in to his career not 64
Time will help Simpkin, obvious Sheens doesn't rate Liddle as highly as other did as they keep having cracks at Hodgo now Api desperate for a quality 9

Back again I see Jedi, with the slipper! Classy. Look I do agree that api is a quality hooker and is a better hooker than liddle at this point in his career. But he turns 30 next year and spent a big portion of last season injured. If u were smart, u would have to ask why the panthers don’t want him next season???
So we sign him on a 3 year deal starting in 23, so 34-35 years old in his last season with us, a bit of a risk. 3 years is ok if it starts next season.
Maybe we should start a thread of people’s hatred for brooks, Nofa and liddle, so Jedi and others don’t have to travel to far to get their kicks??

Panthers do want him, they can't afford to keep him. When you win a grand final everyone wants big dollars and you'll normally lose a player or two, Sheens is trying to take advantage of it

The Wests Tigers have made an audacious play designed to hit back at North Queensland’s poaching of Luciano Leilua by offering young gun teenager Jeremiah Nanai a $600,000 two-year deal for 2023 and 2024.

Nanai, 18, is regarded by good judges as one of the best emerging backrowers in the NRL and made his debut last season playing four games for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys are continuing to monitor the Leilua situation at Wests Tigers with early reports suggesting the backrower may request an immediate release.

Wests Tigers have so far refused this request but if coach Michael Maguire and director of football Tim Sheens were to land the signature of Nanai then the clubs would look to open negotiations about an immediate swap.

Tigers’ director of football Sheens confirmed to Fox Sports the club had made an offer for Nanai to move to the Concord-based club in 2023 and 2024.

Since the arrival of Sheens the Tigers have landed the signature of Dally M back-rower of the year Isaiah Papali’i for 2023 and are currently in a race with the Canberra Raiders to sign Canterbury-Bankstown outside back Nick Cotric.

The Tigers are also deep in negotiations to try and extend the contract of rising front-rower Stefano Utoikamanu as the club sets about overhauling its roster.

Sheens has gone to great lengths to point out coach Maguire is still the figurehead of the club while the newly-arrived director of football is simply assisting Wests Tigers in solving the stigma of being a club players try to avoid joining.

Whereas Canterbury-Bankstown general manager of football Phil Gould has immediately made some major plays in the NRL’s open market the Tigers are aiming for a more measured rebuild.

Premiers Penrith are a recent example of a club who were widely regarded as being no threat to the competition before emerging as one of the Sydney power clubs in the last two seasons.

If anyone knows about rebuilding clubs and overhauling rosters it is four-time premiership-winner Sheens.

If there’s an area the Tigers were in need of a major overhaul it was the club’s recruitment and retention with the experienced Warren McDonnell also returning to Concord to help fix the mess.

Sheens and McDonnell were part of the Wests Tigers’ one and only premiership in 2005 when the pair utilised an outstanding crop of local juniors headed by Robbie Farah, Brett Hodgson, Dene Halatau, Bryce Gibbs and Liam Fulton.

Wests Tigers’ favourite son Benji Marshall was also integral and has since returned to Concord this year after a bitter fallout saw him play a farewell season with South Sydney in 2021.

Farah and fellow 2005 grand final hero Pat Richards are now working with the Tigers NRL side while Marshall is working in pathways and as a Wests Tigers ambassador.

Seems to be a great deal for Nanai. 600k but he is only 18. Probably not ready for the NRL.

Oh wait we dont hold anyone back. His body is still growing and we will thrash him in first grade.

Is Api still unvaccinated at this point? I know it was a problem with the panthers early on that he didn't want the jab. Therefore, he would only be playing games within NSW.

I know Thompson ended up getting vaccinated, but I'm not sure whether Api is holding his stance or has caved.

Wouldn’t it be to his advantage? Like, you would be thinking if I tackle him I’m going to get COVID? So just let him run so I don’t die.

Reminds me of when I played and use to wipe snot on the ball as I was running the ball back.

Hey, if you’re not cheating, you’re no trying!

Were massively off topic but,

Our biggest problems at WTs is the culture and attitude of the team when things get tuff.

Winning and a never give up mentality fixes it all,

We're a club on the most thoughtout and comprehensive rebuild that we have undertaken.

Not entirely recruitment based, investment with young players that if successful will provide years of success.

In the end, ageee or not. its about being able to work for big money or not.

Love these comments. Liddle is not good enough for us, yet would be for the premiers. That’s the line you are trying to sell. Think about that.

I admire all the hard work put in by the recruitment team to improve the roster. As I have stated ad nauseum, all this will not make one iota of difference until Maguire is challenged to change his five hit ups and a bomb gameplan. Let's see the powers to be shake up the way we play as well.

Jedi is like he always does. Great at putting a player down, yet leaving just enough to be able sell him enough for someone to take off our hands. Used to do it with Noffa weekly. Now it’s Liddle. He’d make a great used car salesman.

Noffa - bar far my most despised player. Oxygen thief.

I would be trading him (for the right player).

If Api K was so important to the Panthers, they would find a way to keep him. My guess is he's the type of person they would be ok to see the back of.

In short, I think he's a knob. His rap sheet is enough to avoid signing him, I would hope. I rate him exactly as I rated Hodgson; more of the problem than the solution.

Agree, unvaccinated. Chequered history off the field. Only at his best with a world class halfback (Cleary). Not sure we need to go down this path long term.
