Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Mbye puts a lot of preparation inmto these staements, and is comprehensively the best spoken player in the NRL...
A real shame he never translated that into effort ,committment or leadership on the field
Seems happy to play 14 rather than carve out a starting spot
Says it all

That’s the kind of player he is. No one can definitively say what his best position is because he does not have one. He’s a spare parts kind of player. So is Doueihi to an extent, but he’s a better player than Mbye.

Madge is desperate to have Musgrave regain the mongrel he showed when at Souths. Charging at the line without fear and getting post contact metres is an area where we lack in.
I would think Sheens would have read the riot act to him regarding his latest indiscretion. (well one would hope)
As he said recently "I'm not afraid to upset people"

The unfortunately reality is that the mad dogs that you want in your team (at least some of your roster), that personality type that makes them a little unhinged, to strike fear into opponents, charge into the line, yearn for contact and collision, have that wild look in the eye, toe the line between legal and illegal... it usually doesn't just turn off when they leave the field.

So if you want the odd fearsome lunatic in your side, unfortunately you need to expect and potentially accept some off-field nonsense (of course there is a clear limit to what is acceptable), and that's not even mentioning the other contributing factors for footballers getting in trouble - ego, money, youth, lack of intellect, being protected and championed your whole life, no experience as a Regular Joe etc.

The handful of players that can be absolute scary monsters on-field, then mostly sensible, reliable humans off-field... they end up becoming legends of the game like Gareth Ellis, Gorden Tallis etc. Maybe even Tallis is a stride to far to say he was sensible and reliable during his playing career.

Kenny Edwards is my poster-boy for "gone too far lunacy". That bloke was completely unhinged and scary for all the right and wrong reasons. If you can stay generally on the positive side of the Kenny Edwards scale, you might be alright.

Kenny Edwards didn't strike fear into anybody though, he was a laughing stock all around the league.

Yeah he did - fear of being bitten or other mental decisions. Epitome of a loose cannon..

Did he bite someone on the field? Cannot remember that, was it in ESL?

Only remember him for consistently being an embarrassment to himself and the NRL by always faking injury. The bloke was a ponce.

Mbye doing his best to trick the Tigers into sticking with Brooks… gives his new team a better chance.

“It’s going to take one little thing to unlock him and he’ll be away. He just needed a few more people around him to give him the knowledge and information and he’ll be fine.

All good now

The recency bias towards Musgrove is astounding. Two poor performances while struggling with injury and all of a sudden he's a dud signing and we gotta tear up his contract for a driving offence (won't happen)

Majority of his games he's been good for us. He provides good impact off the bench, causes defenders a lot of problems and his post contact metres are excellent. His main issue has been injury which is out of everyone's control, hopefully he gets fit and plays a whole season this year!

Attitude stinks. Not a smart guy. Too many stuff ups now. Madges worst decision to hand him a long contract IMO.

He's clearly dumb off the field but his attitude towards actual footy seems good. A driving offence where he didn't endanger anyone isn't that bad I reckon

I'd say you would have to play to have a good attitude to footy. What about 12 games in 3 yrs when your actions get you suspended does not show a good attitude.

Oh yes, definitely a bad attitude that's caused him to be injured. I think he'd rather be on the field than in rehab...

Got himself stood down for a year then suspended after the maori vs aboriginal game. Not always injury. Infact over half the time off was because he was not allowed to play. His fault no one else. Not bad luck

He was fully cleared of all the charges he faced that caused him to be stood down for a year so no, not really his fault is it, he should've been playing the whole time. Sure a few weeks suspension is his fault but majority of the year he was dealing with his foot injury. Had multiple surgeries on it

This topic has gone AWOL, Start a rumour please someone, something that everyone will like.

I think at the same age they are very comparable.
They are both multi skilled players which = risk that a coach plugs a hole with them because they just aren’t brilliant at 1 position but are capable in others & play in teams that struggle hence why they become a utility. They are also great trainers which = coach will pick them to play over others. Once they get put into the basket of a utility they are stuck in it.

AD age was is a utility before Mbye was and doesn’t have a position locked in.

Te Maire Martin has just signed a dev contract with the Broncos. Do we offer him a spot in our 30, if he has an out built in? From memory he went pretty well in the Toyota cup team.

No.

I hope it works out for him, he probably thought he would never play again after his brain injury concerns.
I really hope it works out for him, he's a good guy and a talented player.

Adam Reynolds and TMM is a pairing that would bring much skill and excitement.
Good luck to him.

Just say no to Fergo

I'd say yes bloke can play and cover a few positions.

Cant catch High Balls,

If Blake Fergusson, HELL no.

You only hire a guy like that as a super cheapie if your going to the finals. I.e. your Souths and ypu want a spare back rower. He gets over the line.
But far out he wrecks a team.

Nah there are Massive differences between Mbye and AD.

Mbye, had such a strong passing game. He never seemed to get 5/8 but the way Mbye plays is he passes and brings people into the action. Defensively he is able to get in position and just speedhump!

AD is very different. He goes it himself, he passes less and IMHO better at Center. Also you can play AD without regret, cant say the same for Mbye.

What were we thinking:
Offload 200k corey Thompson
Import 750k mbye with assistance. Impact about equal to Thompson.
Ignore two twins who went on to the finals with easts. Honestly, both Morris's would have been close to 750k then.

Speaking of Benny, I hear a rumour he has bought the Wardell Pub on the Far Nth Coast of NSW. wonder if ther'll be a push now for the Ballina Tigers!

I heard rumblings of a non-signing which has caused a bit of a stir at the club. The word is that the person Pascoe had lined up for the COE's barbershop has backflipped on their contract. So we are now on the hunt for an experienced barber.

Time will tell if this comes back to bite us. We're scrambling to sign somebody. Imagine opening the COE and the most important feature is closed. Would be highly embarrassing.

That’s good news if it was Pascoe’s personal barber. :+1:

Strewth - we need a barber to flatten the curve!
