Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Funny how Bellamy can identify a good signing but plenty on hear said no way to Simms , I would have gone hard for him on 2 year deal , replaces James with ease ,
Replace Kel with Barnett
Replace Lucy with Nikora
then add Bird and Farnworth
The difference is that he'll go the Storm for 300K, but would have wanted 600K to come us. Yes at the former, no at the latter. IMO. Not sure whether it's the TPAs that teams like the Storm can organise, to make up the shortfall, or whether the lure of a premiership is enough to make them lose so much money. Even if it was 450K, would be worth a year or two.

I love this world fans live in....

You know they're not dogs at the pet store right - Where you just pick them, Pay for them and take them home....
They actually have a choice in where they decide to go....

Barnett is going to play under the same coach that got him to leave the Raiders for the Knights.
Simms at the end of his career having one last ditch attempt at winning a comp - going to a team that is in the business of winning comps..
The others... Good Players - Meh, Pipedreams.

Yeah I don’t get these fantasy team lists people persist with.

He’s out shopping for boats and the missus a new diamond ring 💍

I expect around 10 changes to the roster for next year ……
Lucy, Kelma (unfortunately) with Garner, Liddle, Tamou, Mikaele, Roberts, Kei, Simpkins and from some reports Gildard could also be looking to go back home.
Paps and Api to offset that to some degree but that’s quite a gap to fill.
I would add Talau, Peach and AJ to that lot depending on their performance when available this season.
Contracts don’t mean much nowadays so looking at players off contract lists has little meaning. Lots of horse trading between now and 2023 season.
Will be keen to watch in house progress of our juniors to see if another Rua emerges. There is talent there and some of this season poor lower grades performances should not be taken as a guide that there is not.
Im not sure who our new recruits will be but hopefully they should and will be upgrades on what’s leaving.
Good player Recruitment is a difficult science to master and very few get it right. Best recruiting clubs like the Panthers, Roosters and the Storm succeed because they have a good core of quality supplemented with either good junior development or smart low cost but well motivated player pick ups.
We can only hope that we can establish that core so that we can do the same.

😂😂😂

Talau will get folded playing second row.

Didn't some one say he isn't even going to be re signed? @sly ?
Someone did....
He's a big kid - Seems like a decent fella....
Always seemed a little soft for me, Even at wing....
Like he's always been the big kid and didn't need to have a real dig.

Can't see him moving to a tougher position and doing any better a job.

I don't like bagging him because everyone seems to see something in that I don't... and like you said, he seems like a nice kid.

However he does appear incredibly soft.
Too many errors in his game.

I couldn't see him succeeding in the pack and I think he's struggled with the backs.

Might need to start thinking about career options.

OR.... Get a whole lot harder a whole lot quicker!!
I know there's folk high up in the club that think he's destined for our Back Row,
I've never seen anything in him to show me he's anything but an average player...
17-30 in lower squads like ours.
Might go OK in a strong side... Can't see him first picked for anyone - anywhere....

Likewise.

Hopefully we don't feel obliged to re sign him.. even if he is a nice kid, we want a squad that can compete and having guys like him and Kei in the 30 isn't helping.

Imagine if we focused our remaining recruitment for 2023 on Herbie Farnworth, Euan Aiken & an experienced (metre eater) front rower like Marty Taupau to complement Paapali, Korisau & supposedly Franklin Pele.

Laurie - Nofa - T'oa - Farnworth - Mamaulo
Brooks - Hastings
Doeuhi (evolves into a modern day Lock like Yeo)
Paapali - Aiken
Utoikamanu - Korisau - Taupau
BENCH - Twal - Musgrove - Blore - Peachey

And thereafter it's all about developing our juniors into seniors like Tupou, Peni, Dotoi, Cameroux, Tumeth, Saaukuru, Okane, Matamua, Pole, Ngakuira, Kataunga etc etc etc
Briton Nikora before Aiken 1000 times over. If fail to get Nikora, wait a year and throw the sink at Liam Martin for 2024.

Tapau is cooked IMO, Klemmer with Newcastle carrying some frieigt is a better option IMO
