If Simpkin was released as part of any swap, I'd say we'd also recruit a utility otherwise we are relying on Tallyn & Rua as our only backup hookers. Perhaps Blake Taafe could be moulded into a half/hooker/fullback utility like Weekes at Manly. Or Bayley Sironen can play relief dummyhalf as a versatile lock/backrow/5-8 too.

Connor Watson would also be a handy experienced recruit as a #14 to cover relief hooker, lock, halves at a pinch.

My bandwagon is Jake Simpkin swap for Brayden Trindall, win/win for players & clubs. Get it done Benji & Fulton. And yes, we would also need to recruit a #14 utility.

You suggestion makes sense for both parties.

As for a 14, IMO a specialist 14 with experience is essential. Blake Austin would be great off the bench playing through middle while covering injuries in other areas.

More realistic target for the 7 jumper is Tanah Boyd. Great long kicking game, good defender and has done a pretty good job managing the game for the Titans this year. Assuming they do at the end of it manage to bring on board Hunt for 2024, he'll be surplus to requirements and would be worth trying to bring back to Sydney. On 22/turning 23 shortly so plenty of improvement still in him.

I'd be open to also seeing if we could bring across the odd man out of Te-Maire Martin, Ronald Volkman and Luke Metcalf. With the Warriors re-signing Chanel Harris-Tavita and looking likely to re-sign Johnson, that's 5 halves for 2 spots. Something's got to give and we could probably get one of them on a reasonable deal with the guarantee of first grade footy and in the case of Volkman/Metcalf, the opportunity to come back to Sydney.

Despite all the wraps on Fainu, I'd rather have at least 2 more experienced options (and potentially Wakeham if we re-sign him) going into the season. It's still one thing to be considered the next big thing and then actually becoming the next big thing. Look at the wraps Brooks had coming into first grade - way higher than on Fainu and look where it got us.

Dunno about Bleak City having better coffee BigSiro....my favorite Vittoria Oro Special Bar Coffee can be purchased anywhere.
But I get it delivered direct from Vittoria freshly roasted and at a great price, then grind it myself in a Smeg grinder.
I just love the smell of fresh ground coffee in the morning 🙂.

Not sure about TMM, I think we would be better placed hanging on to Laurie and think he can do the same things.

I guess we will wait an see how things play out.

Sheens was the one who moved our halves on this year and went all in on Brooks which was a poor idea as results are showing us.This is 2012 revisited but with even worse results.I certainly am not excusing the other idiots we have but he has to carry the can for this abortion of a season and the last half of last season where he left Noddy in deep manure and actually removed depth from the playing squad.At this stage he has "won" us one wooden spoon and we are unfortunately a solid chance of going back to back.
The club needs to remove the entire board Pascoe Lee and Sheens they are pathetic and some times i wonder if someone is actively trying to kill our club from within because the actions and consequences certainly look like it

My take(could be wrong) the WT wanted to make Brooks an offer so as not to appear disrespectful for his 10 years of service. We can all judge him as we please, but he deserves some respect.
I think the Club knew full well that there would be a higher offer elsewhere. I pray to the Good man upstairs that they had a contingency plan, the time lapse in between announcing his departure has me really worried that they didn't. If Fulton doesn't land Fainu or a proven 7, I'm tipping he's a fraud.

Time will tell whether it was a good decision or not to offer Brooks a longer term contract and match Manly's offer, but he may have simply wanted a change so it could have made no difference anyway.

Will a few of the other halves be 19 next year. Old enough imo if they have it.
I’m also of the view your 14 doesn’t have to be an out and out hooker especially if you have an 80 minute hooker. Example Nicho hynes and papenhousen spring to mind

We can speculate all we want but reality is as fans we’re basically mushrooms and have no insight.

I'm of the opinion he will do well for Manly, I have been hyper critical of Brooks this year so am not sad to see him go, if he goes and kicks on good for him, just time all parties moved on.
Imo the caveat for him doing well for Manly is DCE. If DCE is fit he will go well, if DCE gets injured then Manly will just be Tigers 2.0, don't care who his coach is Brooks cannot lead a team around the pitch. A halves pairing of Brooks and Schuster imo isn't a good mix.

I'd probably MOST like the Tigers to look at Te Mare Martin to pair with Fainu if they could.

I think he's a very calm, measured player. Quite a decent kicker & knows how to set up his support players. Doesn't get rattled easily. Has a history with the Tigers as well. Plus, as a Kiwi international, not a terrible mentor for the likes of Fainu.

With Wakeham & Laurie as additional options, Doueihi to return, I think the halves would be solid. Unless Fainu breaks out, of course.

One of the things Hastings brought was composure. I feel Martin offers something similar. And most likely at a decent price too.

I see the #14 role being discussed. I'd probably want Da Silva to be promoted as much as possible. But, Connor Watson, Bayley Sironen or even Kurt Mann could help, for certain.

Lastly- if the Tigers are really exploring the UK for players, what about Curtis Sironen to play #13?

I still think our coaches are to blame for our 1/2s problem, on this forum we have identified many 1/2s that could put our team on the right track . Many of these players are struck behind incumbent players and will be struck there for years , so I ask WHY have we not made a move on any of them , we have the money and a 1st grade spot to offer them , and I don’t accept the line no one wants to come here , a kid offered more money and a 1st grade spot would be mad not too jump at it . So I think is it the coaches that don’t think much of any of them , because they seem to only be looking at 1/2s close to or over 30 , yes nice to get a experience 1/2 but bring a young bloke in while we have a pack to look after them and go with it for two years , we got nothing to lose

What is mind boggling is why we didn't have these discussions with Sanders, Trindall, Cogger, Pezet after the first 8 weeks, why have we waited so long, blind Freddy could see the team had no attacking direction or onfield leadership. I couldn't see any of their respective clubs complaining if we talk to their 2nd or 3rd string halves. Couldn't our coaches see that Brooks wasn't the answer, our pack are generally eating through the metres and we are totally impotent in attack. Wtf were they waiting for.

Trindall has always looked like an out and out 7, not a 6, and has around 50 games now, never looking out of place. We know our maligned 7, who was really a running 6, is worth around 700k in this market. That means Trindall as an actual 7 is worth at least that and I don't understand how a guy in Reggie's could knock us back if we were serious and made a big play. We should have looked at him before drongo has beens like Pearce or slimey farts who stained the club.

Of course he could flop here, but peak Andrew John's could have too!

I think trying to convince Sharks to release him might be the difficult part.
