Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I think you under-estimate the stubbornness of the Coach.
hahaha fair call - but i am yet to see any form of stubbornness in him unless I am missing reading the tea leaves.
I would just love to see a high profile signing do well for once at our club.
It has been a long time - Gareth Ellis i feel was very under valued and then arrived like a freight train that we can never been able to replicate.
Gareth Ellis, to me, was almost the most complete backrower I have ever seen play the game outside of Bradley Clyde.

Sensationally quitting the club in 2013 because we didn't want to give him an extension for 2016/2017
right then - Is fairly Stubborn you'd reckon.
There's been other instances, No point re-visiting them now...
I've said it before - Whatever Benji wants, He'll get.

If I'm one of the fat club, the last thing I'd want is the media knowing about it. This affects how they are viewed by their peers and any future club signing them.

The only logic behind it I can see is that the club named and shamed them in front of the rest of the players.

So what’s stopping one of the non named from passing it on to his player manager? This stuff doesn’t stay long within the player group …as we have found out already …

Perhaps this could have been leaked to the RLPA if one or more of the players approached them for advice

Any theories as why only 2 of the 5 have to front the board, and not the other 3?

To a point - but i am thinking more his coaching rather than what happened within his playing contracts
I don't mind stubborn but you don't need this to play out in the media either anymore than it is. If Benji is as smart as we like to think he is, then this is a battle that he should re-think. The club has more to lose in a public spat with a player.
Talks need to happen before he returns and agreements need to be made on how they both act.
We have a young squad that cannot afford to get drawn into a public coach-player spat.

I would just like Bateman to be the player I know he can be for the Tigers.
I might be dreaming, but i still believe Bateman could be a very good player in our squad with the players with have bought on board this season.

I would be positive the bulk of the players have been made aware of the people concerned and hopefully all of them realise that they are being closely monitored as the club is starting to crack down on poor attitude. This is long overdue

Reports are that the two fronting the board have multiple infringements. There would be steps the club needs to take to get to the point of handing down a show cause notice.

I would imagine the 3 who don't have to front management are only slightly outside the border

They had prior breaches apparently

Just like the Bulldogs. Buying up the comp. When they buy May and the other player they just signed today. And the Roosters forward they signed the other day.

Well in the Matt Lodge article today, Lodge is quoted as saying Manly wanted to keep him but couldn't afford any more than $150k under the salary cap. So how are they going to afford Bateman unless we pay 75% of his salary!
keep in mind that a lot of teams divide their salary cap amongst positional groups.

Manly have Jurbo, Paseka, Aloiai, Brown, Taukeiaho, Tevaga, James, Bullemor, and Sipley on their books for next year. that's a lot of money already on middles.

they probably want to divert some cash into their edges.

So it should be to be fair
