Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Still need another big cannonball prop and Seyfarth goes back to reserve grade, the rest fight for their 1st grade positions for me.
Completely disagree, it would screw up our cap and roster balance.

You can't have 7-8 props in a 30 man roster with the money that they are all on. Its not fantasy football. That's why its much more important to get a second rower and lock to free up Seyfarth and Twal to play prop.

If we were to get another FG quality prop (with KPP and a lock) that means that Sione, Twal and Seyfarth would all be in reserve grade. That's too much of the cap in grade. They would probably also look to leave, which puts you back to square one and having to replace them. Not to mention it would completely block the path of guys like Kit.

The reality is TDS is promising but unproven ,mainly because he hasnt had the opportunity...
Api is a slowly fading superstar...but at this stage Api is still miles in front ,and altho hes had a lot of footy hes still gonna >TDS for a cple of years yet
He sees his buddy moving on at 19 to bigger and supposedly better,so thinks he can do same..but 9 is tougher.
Think we got Harry Grant at 21...
Think we will lose TDS,but not a wrist slashing loss

Our pathways are bad. So many players who are touted as the future end up anything but, and players who do show promise we can’t keep. 😞

I can only assume they rate Haywood more highly than TDS and the timing works better for a transition from Api to Haywood.
TDS is a MUCH better prospect than Haywood. Haywood is u19 this year. Tallyn was u19 only last year.

By u19, TDS had already made his first grade debut and absolutely dominated SG Ball that year (he had something like 9 tries in 10 games). He then went and played 6 games of first grade that year (last year).

Haywood had a good year in Ball but wasnt even the best player in the team. He is only now making the bench in Flegg. Hes a long way off and well behind where Tallyn was at the same age (last year).

Can we just relax and look what we have in the no:9 position
API for 25/26
TDS currently contracted till ?

TDS is playing longer minutes this year than last and I’m sure will get even more time next year.
He is our future and I’m sure he will be getting told this with API near the end of his career.

I hope the 17 changes for Sunday and TDS is back in.

He's been playing well off the bench and now he's dropped.

Although I feel like he didn't see much game time against the storm.
There could be something more to the story, or they might not.

Just hope Tigers come out on top.
This could be a tactical move for TDS to get some long minutes in before the bye. At this stage Benji could be preparing for if Api is out due to origin. Unlikely sure but it may be a reason.
At the same time giving Api more minutes might showcase him for origin in 1 last audition.

I'm concerned over the immediate need to fill 2 or 3 roster spots by 30 June. I still see Olam in the clubs website and have not seen anything official on his medical retirement having happened. Our State Cup team and development players are not bashing down the door for selection and in that case should not be rewarded by filling the vacant slots. We have to recruit to get some useful depth in the last half of the season. Dunno who, but we need both forwards and backs. Next season we have some 6 players with contracts ceasing end of this season but that's another issue. I think the 30 June squad deadline and lack of usable depth players is the now issue.

Put it into context, the Storm had Munster, Drinkwater, Hughes and Papenhuyzen on the books (not sure which one), but it was resolved.
Yeah, but they had Bellamy improving all their individual prospects internally and externally
Plus a great winning culture to play in
Having said that, theres a cple of Storm players who need to move on..Pezet and Faalago..are both serious 1st graders and need to move on sooner rather than later
Pathways are totally blocked

Wouldn't playing him in KOE over the bye weekend be the better choice?

Could also be to give a young player 80mins prior to coming into a bye weekend.

Rather than the 10-20 mins so far this season.

Just a thought.

Mmm gone far too deep into this week not to bounce back with some good news.

Was really expecting an external announcement by now, surely tomorrow? Just feel a good story is needed right now.
I'd suggest any signings will be over the bye period give them time to settle in they are coming this year, although coukd be a good way to increase the crowd this week

Just throwing it out there…. but have we actually heard any clarity from the club that Latu will 100% be next up when Galvin leaves. I didn’t hear anything even in the slightest on a 90 min podcast with James Graham from Richo.

I feel like this automatic assumption that Latu will be going to 6 might not be as automatic as people think.

The club have aggressively hunted Galvin and planned the future with him in it as a 6 for the next 10-15 years, so for the last 18 months where has the club told Latu they have plans for him to play long term next to Galvin, maybe they want to commit to that plan and hunt a marquee halves partner next to Luai moving forward.

Hypothetically, I’ve been a big advocate for Latu to play 13 and I’ve heard it’s where the club planned to play him as a first receiver to give space to both Galvin/Luai with his ball skills and tackle breaking ability. Plus his experience as a 9 which shows he’s more than capable to defend in the middle. The games changing and players like Latu playing 13 really benefit teams these days with how fast the pace is today.

Let’s just say we approach Luke Metcalf who’s available to talk to clubs November 1st and he wants to move back to Sydney. What if the Isiyah Katoa return to Sydney rumours start to flare up again in the off-season. Could those players be options or would that be avenues you guys would be interested in.

Just food for thought.
