Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Why Tui? He's 31. WT already have Hunt who is 30 this year too, and regressing fast. Jack Bird is also 30 and nowhere near the player he was, and has been moved on by several clubs over his career. We can see why. One good performance, for 3 or 4 ill-disciplined ones.

They need more middles in their prime. 23-28 yo. Horsburgh was the one to get, but Ricky didn't want him to go. You know they have something to offer when their incumbent club still wants them. No doubt fools here will put their hand up for Papali'i. Maybe 2 or 3 seasons ago, but not now.

Beware of players being punted by opposition clubs. Olam, Sullivan, Hunt, Bird, etc. Kamikamica would be another to add to that list if Melbourne are happy to see him go. If they're no good for them, they should be no good for WT! I'm still waiting for what the issue might be with May. Hopefully it was just an extroverted personality that was too much for the Roosters to handle.

WT needs to be better at identifying, recruiting, and 'holding' onto younger players with NRL careers ahead of them. The middles stocks have been bare for several seasons now.
Good post. We all want signings but not another Storm cast off at the back end of his career.

Like...... Terrell May?

I understand the sentiment, but it's not as simple as that.

Players surplus to requirements at one club may be just what is needed at another.

Get better based on what? He’s almost 30 and has never been able to play 40 mins in his life. I don’t think he’s going to suddenly reinvent himself. What you see is what you get with this guy.
Fitness, attitude, positional play, ect ect. Players improve all the time regardless of age. This falls on the Coaches to get the best out of every player on the roster, so yes with the right approach he can reinvent himself. Royce is mostly an impact guy, so 80 mins is a stretch. We saw him do it in the Shire so make it happen. Even guys like Seyfarth can improve, so theres definite hope.... 🙂

Just from what iv seen of the guy I'm a huge Sukkar fan. Type of guy we need, rolls his sleeve up, makes his tackle and is big, tough and skilful enough he can pop through the line, he's only played a handfull of games, he will only get better iv got him ahead of Seyfarth, Twal and Hunt in our pecking order. I'm a Twal fan aswell.
Sukkar's potential is high. Needs to work on his fitness though. He looks gassed after 10 minutes. He let in a try against the Cowboys by failing to cover the inside space fast enough.

Is there a realistic chance that we could get both KPP and Fifita?
We should sign Fifita just for the rest of the season and then reassess at the end of the season. We have heaps of space in our cap so we could make a great offer if he was willing to take the risk of only a half season contract (on the assumption that he could catapult himself into a greater contract afterwards, whether here or elsewhere).

I've suggested Fifita before.

Make it a contract with a Mutual Option at the end of each season so that, knowing he's hard work, you can get out of the contract on a year by year basis.

What you gain- athletisism we simply do not have on the edges. Takes away the need for 'elite' centres as the impact comes from KPP & Fifita instead.

Additionally- Seyfarth & Sam Fainu can become part of the middle rotation, less need for Royce Hunt. May, Pole, Sione & Sam Fainu, Twal & Seyfarth is a fantastic rotation in the middle with flexibility to play guys wider if needed.

KPP looks over the line.

Fifita is probably accessable.

We would be a different team.

Great argument, considering I brought him up too. WT otherwise have done really well recruiting surplus requirements from other clubs. 🙄

Thanks for the discussion. Why bother.
What's your problem with my response here? I don't understand.

You made an assertion that we need to be wary of players 'punted from other clubs', which I stated is a little simplistic. Which it is.

I'm ready for a continued discussion in good faith and your response is 'why bother'?

ALL clubs purchase players that are 'punted' by other clubs. In fact, many clubs, recently, have purchased players 'punted' by the 3x wooden spooners. All of those clubs have been better than us, yet they're accepting our discards.

Klemmer, Papali'i, Bateman and Sullivan are all very recent exits that are now with other NRL teams, despite the fact that at the time, rightly or wrongly, they were deemed excess to requirements here, but are performing roles in their new clubs in areas of need for those clubs.

Fifita....

Do people actually read the story ? Seems to be based on comments that we already saw from Chammas on Wed night Wests Life podcast …and he says that WT discussed Fifita “internally” but have moved onto KPP?

Once you get past the click bait headline…it’s seems to be ruling him out

Disagree.

Samuela does a LOT off the ball that people don't notice. He is a far more complete player than people are giving him credit for and his form this year, particularly in defence and clean up work continues to be top shelf.
I agree, he is always looking to put a big hit on (rare in our team) and does not give up in defence. Having some second-year challenges, however I also think he is not 100% and still bit ginger with his right knee in contact. I think he is moulding his playing style around his good mate Hamuole, and it took him a few years to bring it all together.
