Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

not really sure how you're struggling to see what they're doing. they're recruiting depth in places where it has been skinny previously.

Mavrik Geyer and Ethan Roberts are effectively replacements for Tumeth and Matamua. in Geyer we have a player that is stuck behind two internationals and one more experienced head that's looking for an opportunity. he'll do a job when called upon, will come cheap, and has plenty to prove with only a 12 month contract.

Roberts is a junior star stuck behind a plethora of backrowers at the Chooks who has immense pedigree and potential, but needs time and space to develop. we're talking about a player that was getting about Harold Matthews as a 15-year-old. Richardson clearly rates him given he's tried to poach him a few times when he was at Souths.

as for Madden, we're in dire need of a backup half. we can't rely on Mason and/or Falls, simple as that. we get a player back who knows the club inside out, who Benji is aware of and is willing to be a backup. our Cup side will benefit immeasurably from his inclusion and he'll do a job when called upon for firsts.

providing we can re-sign Doueihi, upgrade Taylan and look at either Mapapalangi or a Hiroti or Allan, we're pretty much set with still one spot left to fill on the roster. no doubt we'll be sniffing around for an enforcer to lead the pack, and we'll have the money to do it.
Well I’m far from convinced Jock Madden is, or can be as effective as a 7 at NRL level as what Jack Cogger or Brad Schneider are and they are also bigger, stronger bodies who would both be much more suitable to fill in or play 9 if required.
Both Navrik Geyer and Ethan Roberts are decent depth options, but we now have 6 edge back rowers in our top 30 and that’s not including Seyfarth who has played there for the majority of this season.
We don’t need 6 edge back rowers in our top 30 and out of the 6 it is only really Saukuru who you would say is flexible enough to play edge back row or centres if required.

It remains to be seen if both the signings are top 30. IF they are then yes we probably have 1 too many. I’m saying that though Sukkar and Geyer are only signed until 26.

Seyfarth has proven time and time again he sucks on the edge.

TBH i hope they are cup signings see how they get on in pre season and early rounds can always upgrade, a lot harder to downgrade.

Remember when he put that big chase on Zac Lomax in our round 2 win against the Eels showing his speed! I feel something happened after that win against the Sharks as his form seemed to drop after that game.

Differing reports that his fitness measures weren't up to scratch, his knee had been causing aggravation & that he had a rib problem (his own, not eating ribs), maybe all of the above.

Rather than write off a player, hopefully Benji and the S&C team can work with Royce to get whatever right for a big off & pre-season of fitness. A fit and firing Royce for 20-25 mins a game offers us something we don't have!
I was speaking to someone from the Sharks on the weekend. Big Roycey is not a great trainer apparently. Perhaps not shocking news.

Nah I reckon Jerome would be calling for the ball non stop! Doubie just had to run good lines from ten out and he would have scored heaps, he is big enough to do damage. Pity he only shows it at contract time.
Look I like Doubie, but we shouldn’t pay overs. We need to lock up May and get a player in Treys style and age. He would flourish here at lock.

It’s depressing as all of them are better than Jock Madden.
I was surprised with thst signing considering we have Bud in same position that we're paying 80% of his wage throw in Maddens wage to do the same thing. If Wayne plays him I can't see why we couldn't put good coaching into bud he's only a pup with potential. Sorry can't work this out for the life of me

Adam deserves a better deal than that on offer allegedly.

An established first grade that is in our top 17.
He's also shown the club a lot of respect by wanting to stay and calling out Richo when he already has a bigger deal with the dragons.
How would you feel if the club is offering less than what they signed bud. I really hope he stays. Clubs needs guys thst have been here fir a while to want to stay

I think most people see Jock as a bit of a game manager whereas I’m not sure Bud is that character. Madden is a logical foil for Luai to free up his game.

Both are big, tall, strong and fast, everything you generally want in an edge back rower.
The issue is neither of them use their size and speed to advantage.
If we have the coaching staff to change their mindset and get them playing with good energy and aggression we will have very good players on our hands, but the fact that their current clubs were not able to get it out of them is a concern.
It obviously means we are not looking at established versatile edge back rowers such as Siosifa Talakai or Simi Sasagi, so we are relying on these lower cost project players to play to their maximum potential and challenge for a position in our NRL 17.
Roberts absolutely destroyed our Flegg team about 5-6 weeks ago, so he’s got plenty of talent, but he doesn’t always seem to get out of 1st gear.
Maybe first gear is enough for him at the competition level he’s at ? Lets hope he can shift a few here in Tigertown.

DT: “Adam Doueihi is poised to accept a revised two-year deal with Wests Tigers now trying to find the salary cap money to retain Charlie Staines, Brent Naden and Reuben Porter. Doueihi's imminent retention and the recent arrival of Mavrik Geyer from Penrith and young Ethan Roberts from the Sydney Roosters has put the squeeze on Wests Tigers' salary cap.”
