Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If they really cared about the club instead of their stupid selves they would of held off until the extension was done.

Just proves they are a bad fit for us more interested in power before team success.
I agree they're a bad fit. I disagree that any extension was about to be done or that if he eventually signs elsewhere it will largely be due to the recent HBG shit storm

Maybe not the price tag. I just can't buy in on young talent at the moment.. the club has no stability and crappy pathways... Been a tigers fan too long... Even Makasini, I just assume he will leave eventually.. can't blame me right
We are talking about the dragons though ? And to be honest the club has amazing juniors , just shit pathways . Same as wests tigers . You could field 2 team that would be top 4 candidates from players who left both clubs as juniors .
Say what you will about, but at least the tigers have identified the issue … yet are still having problems with retention .

I believe it massively has to do with the fact the Campbelltown kids wear a magpies jersey , and don’t really engage with the nrl “tigers” until they’re 18-19 , an if they’re off the club , or they followed an alternate club as a kid , you’re now having to walk all that negativity back . Especially because the region is so big , and adjacent to the dogs and panthers. Alternatively Balmain seem to benefit from a sort of siege mentality , and acceptance that their region is small , plus as others have eluded in the past , there is a genuine buy in to the tigers in the Balmain district , but that has eroded in recent years with the wests tigers poor nrl form.
The club didn’t capture the hearts and mind of a lot of the kids in Campbelltown , plus I don’t want to piss people off , but the area is historically lower socio economic . And what I mean by referencing that is , kids tend to want to escape those areas , around Balmain , and the whole district , when I lived there , I found that most were doing all they could to purchase there , and the idea of being from say Ryde and moving to Rydalmere , was the “sacrifice” they had to make. It’s a completely different mentality .
So I find our juniors from the inner west are far more loyal generally , whereas that’s not the case for the Wests kids.
It’s absolutely the main reason and most important reason that wests tigers should be a throughput throughout the club .
I feel like I’m pretty well versed on this subject . I grew up in south west Sydney , and my wider family was from Gladesville . Back then , Manly was the club swooping in and grabbing all the gun kids and chucking them on the tarago to training . Now it’s dogs , panthers(really it’s both ways) , St George and manly and roosters far less it seems .
I mean to be honest , say if you’re TDS right. Your dad was a magpies supporter so he’s hearing about all the wests tigers bullshit before he enters the club, he enters the club , the club is a shambles , he’s made ridiculous promises by Timbo , timbo gets the flick , Benji comes in , and now his mate is in the nrl team in Galvin , but most of them playing group is off him … so he leaves for a million reasons . It wouldn’t be that hard to turn around and say I’m leaving for a better opportunity. Is it entitlement ? Absolutely ! Irrational confidence ? Absolutely ! Completely understandable based on everything I just said ? Absolutely . He should be the canary in the coal mine in relation to the vicious cycle we seem to have put ourselves in . Kids out west arnt loyal to wests tigers . So wests tigers offer them roles and money to try and buy loyalty . They end up being not as good or need more time , they don’t like riding the bench, because they’ve been talked up way too much , they ask for a release ….

We are so bloody slow in locking up our own players…dunno why
It takes a hell of a lot to convince them to stay here.
Also if they are any good, they’ll attract a reasonable amount of attention externally.
This all takes time to work through.
I’d be far more suspicious of players who sign on here quickly.

Bula just weighing up cash v opportunity.

He’s been well overpaid and I don’t see anyone offering him what we will to keep him.
Will come down to how much he actually believes what they’ve been feeding us.

Yeah likely.
Maybe Benji calling him bro every sentence will get it done….
Personally I believe bringing a good coach in to help Marshall would strengthen our case.

“I don’t see anyone offering him what we will to keep him.”
That’s a concern. I would like to think he is taking a little less to stay.
He’d be playing hoops at the local park and we still have to pay Tigers Tax?
I hope he stays and on a reasonable contract, but I think I’m dreaming hey?

That ain’t happening anytime soon, especially after he just got re-signed for life, but if it does take ya pick.

Excluding Sheens.

Great post, can't disagree with anything you've said.

It poses the question; what is the Wests Tigers strategy to win the hearts of kids in South West Sydney?

We are already 25 years behind.

My nephew lives 10km from Campbelltown and he was very close to following his other uncle's footsteps and following the Broncos. The Tigers have not been to his school once and he's about to start year 5; I find that insane.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the Magpies vs. Balmain divide is still the core issue here. I don’t see HBG putting real money into the Wests Tigers brand in Campbelltown when it feels like it’s competing with their own Magpies identity. If I were Peter V’landys, I’d issue a 'use it or lose it' ultimatum: either the Tigers commit to the Macarthur region properly, or we open the gates to a club like the Bulldogs who actually want to be there. It’s a drastic move, but it might be the only way to force their hand

This is difficult to believe,
they visit 100 odd schools every year / half would be out there (at least)

Have you ever googled it, might have just missed them?

I would have thought all extensions and resigning be done by now to give the team a nice pre season
Bulla , I don’t get , this should have been done already clearing his head to continue his pre season .
Sione , extension, again should have been done already ,he was great for us and has earned it ( 2 years )
Elliot , if rumours we are sniffing again pre season with new club is very important , we need him blended in not having to play lower grade to catch up , that’s just poor , if we are in get it done , close the books and dig into pre season hard , we always start poorly in our pre seasons , Elliot is a lock , we need a real lock , ( 2 years )

yes exactly!! very frustrating!! Sione Fainu has always seemed to be fighting for a contract. like hello…. had a good year, brothers we want to keep are here, and he wants to stay.

Re Bula - we always in media saying “working to get a deal done” stop talking just do it!
