From memory (which isn’t great) I think he agreed to terms with the bulldogs, but said when questioned that there was a misunderstanding between him and the Tigers regarding him being extended.

Thought we had 3 spots open in the 30 with Bird gone. Sione wasn’t included in that count? Assuming Bunty takes one. Should still have another left - correct?

Its pretty obvious how the roosters are skirting the salary cap....i wonder how much Keary, cordner, minichello, friend, JWH, and up until this season Cronk etc... are getting paid for their one day a week "coaching" at the club.

If and when Bird is released, we will be at 27.
There has been some comments from a couple of ITKs that Bunty Afoa & Javon Andrews (both currently on Dev contracts) will move into top 30 by 30 June with Godinet & CTM (both currently on T&T) will take their spots in the 6-man development squad.
So at this date (with Bird on contract still), SM is correct.
If Bird does depart then we can keep that spot open until June 30. I'd say we'll be patient to see if a player falls out of the tree or one of our Development or T&T players absolutely kills it over the first half of the season.

The NRL is on the verge of appointing Nine newspaper journalist Michael Chammas as their general manager of football at the PNG Chiefs.
This masthead understands that Chammas has been earmarked to take charge of the Chiefs’ football operations after being hand-picked by ARL Commission chair Peter V’landys to become a key player at the fledgling franchise.
The Chiefs, who recently announced that former Digicel PNG boss Lorna McPherson would be their chief executive, are due to enter the NRL in 2028.

The head of football role will be one of the most significant appointments given the team is starting from scratch. However, Chammas will take charge of PNG’s football operations armed with one of the most extensive contact books in the game.
The news breaker has reported on some of the biggest stories in rugby league over the past decade, earning a growing reputation as a media heavy hitter through his work with the Sydney Morning Herald, Nine News and 100% Footy.
He now faces an even more significant challenge in ensuring the Chiefs hit the ground running as they prepare to enter the NRL in 2028.
The Chiefs are yet to sign a player or coach, but they will head to market armed with tax-free dollars after the NRL struck an historic agreement with the federal government allowing for players to effectively double their income.

Players aside, the most significant appointment for the chiefs will be their inaugural head coach. That decision will be made by the AFL Commission as they wade through a list of candidates that include the likes of Arthur and Jason Demetriou.
Seven-time premiership winner Wayne Bennett has also been mooted as a prospective PNG coach, although the dream target would undoubtedly be Penrith mentor Ivan Cleary.
It is believed Panthers half Nathan Cleary is also on PNG’s wish-list as they look to make a big splash in the player market.
The Chiefs have had a rocky start to their existence.
Chief executive Andrew Hill quit to take over the role of Panthers Group CEO, while influential board member Wapu Sonk stood down amid corruption allegations, which he vehemently denies.

Last month, inaugural chair Ray Dib revealed he was forced out of his role with the 19th expansion side following an uneasy relationship with NRL powerbrokers.
Last year, it is understood Chammas was locked in talks over joining Perth as head of football when it looked like former Parramatta coach Brad Arthur would be appointed coach.
When Arthur was overlooked, the move went cold.
However, it is understood NRL powerbrokers have been intent on bringing Chammas into the tent to play a role in the game’s future.

Chammas would be the second media personality to take on a role with an expansion side after the NRL appointed former Channel 7 boss Anthony De Ceglie chief executive of the Perth Bears.
In May last year, Chammas was involved in a fiery exchange with Canterbury general manager of football, Phil Gould, over the Bulldogs’ signing of former Wests Tigers prodigy Lachlan Galvin.
Now, the Nine stablemates could come head to head as opposing football department bosses.

The new rule for 6 subs and only use 4 is interesting.
I dont know if it makes utilities more or less valuable.
I can see teams rotating 3 players all game and 3 guys sit in wait to see if they're needed?

Interesting for sure, probably depends on how early disaster happens in a vital position you would think, if you get past the 65-minute mark you would expect the 14 to 17 only taking the field unless one of 18/19 could help you prevent a loss.
The coach that can use this smartly may produce some more wins for the team that's for sure.

Terrell just did a live & said Luke has had a cracking pre season and has impressed him. Possibly why he was in the firsts line up at the open members day

Actually, I thought Doueihi was struggling to keep up during the field laps after the contact games. Head down and running last on the open training day.
When Fittler first retired he was being paid $250k to run the water….
He does look very fit and happy, it makes you wonder why we let him sign with Perth Bears without seeing his improvement in 2026 ?
And he finished at the PVL University of General Management with a Diploma of Hypocrisy.
I can’t wait to hear his conversation with Gus play out in the media.

He got a contract and a chance to play firsts. I'd guess on better money too.
I'd suggest it's not hard to imagine why he would sign with them.
