Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Bellamy thinks very highly of former Victorian touch player Hugo Peel. Said he may debut this year but not necessarily at fullback. It is amazing how the Storm continue to produce good young players to replace lost stars.
They must have scouts everywhere and are much smarter at recognising talent sooner than some clubs, do they put us to shame, the answer may produce a sigh from us.

Its been said a long tome ago on here, but apparently the outside back talent playing Rugby in in NZ who cant break through is crazy. Plenty of Tuiaki's over there. Thats where we should be looking. Identify one or 2, bring them over as depth and we might just get a gun. At the time of his injury, Taniela was the best winger in the world along with Brett Morris. Theres more of him out there. Fiji Rugby too.

He would, but I don’t think he would be too keen on it just yet, when he will certainly get paid up around a million per season at a few NRL clubs if he does not stay with the Bulldogs.
Lachie Galvin has a long way to go before he’s in the same class as Burton as a 5/8 in my opinion.
The rumours are he will be trialing as a punter in the NFL, so he might be listen reugby league completely.

He could possibly become the best punter in the NFL

Star's shoulder is a worry. But am excited to see how Big Mak, Herbert & Max Taotua go in Saturday's trial. A smokey as a right centre backup through the season is Pheonix Godinet.

Yes he is a right edge backrower but this kid could play anywhere you ask and do it well. He was a half up until U16s. Size is fine for centre, has ok speed, good ball skills, can defend and I'm sure would get up to speed quickly with the defensive decision-making required.

As I said, a smokey!
I think you need to lay off the Smokey 💨

Luke L also plus an untested saukuru.... and if things are really dire, Doueihi to centre and latu to 7.

I agree the depth is thin, but I also don't think it's panic stations. We can reasonably cover 2 injuries with Makasini and Luke L. Saukuru maybe.

Technically, we still have Bird also... I'd say they'll add some more depth if they can get him off the books.
I think you proved my point about lake of backline depth.

A 19 yr old who was horrible in defence in his only couple of games and has signed for Perth, a flegg backrower, our half back and a guy who will be playing for Leeds is the backline depth.

We have 3 open spots when Bird goes, 2 of them need to be outside backs

Javon Andrews can play centres as well .. and he goal kicks ..

I thought you were talking about makasini as the 19 year old.

So youre missing either maka or skelton in the depth. One will miss the starting 17

Wtf .. who in hell signed Sayfart till the end of 2028 .. ?? Bad enuff that we now just signed Twal till the end of 2029 .. they are getting older not younger .. this nutz .. !!
Seyfarth is one of the better hole runners we have and he is one of the very few who possesses true mongrel. Granted he is no world beater and his reputation proceeds him with referees, but he is great depth and a player that can be worked with.

Mate do you know how many players we used last year in the back 5 without Heath Mason ????

11 the West Tigers used 11 different players in the back 5 last year without Heath Mason

I just don't think Heath gets a game in the back 5 this year

And at the moment we have 6 good players fighting for 5 spots

Injuries always happen

This post had me reaching for the stats book.

First 4 seasons - 1 total linebreak
Last 2 seasons - 7 total linebreaks

Definitely an area he has improved (without being a world beater as you said)

That will be up to Heath himself.
If he comes out and plays extremely well on Saturday at fullback, he will the remain as our number one fullback backup until someone dethrones him.
I really think he should shift his focus to being a utility who can slot on at 9, 13, 6, 6 or 1.
He can potentially be dynamic and have a good NRL career in this role, but the longer he keeps playing fullback it lessens the chance of him potentially transitioning to this type of player.
