Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Last year we had in Reggie's mostly

Staines $400K
Naden. $400K
Bird $400K

Is it a waste of cap ? Would it be better to pay Herbert $150K Bunty $250K and Taylan May $800K and at least have 1 gun
I reckon Bunty would be getting 200k maximum and as you say some good experienced players on minimum contracts allows us to spend more on higher profile players.
It probably won’t be long until we are desperately wanting to upgrade Makasini’s contract which I believe is approx 375k.
I know he is very young and has not proven anything at NRL level just yet, but last Saturday’s trial was enough for me to be convinced he is the real deal and we need him to be a Wests Tigers player for a long time to come.

I didn’t say anything about coming to the tigers , I was just making a statement

so why can’t we get his brother to come to the tigers , doesn’t have to be pole going to the storm
He is not a constant quality FR imo. Has many average games i wouldnt be offering to much to keep him.

By good do you mean i said he is a good NRL player? I said he is good depth at 5th choice backrower, but in actual fact he is probably 7th choice. So I stand by that.

I also acknowledged his defence was average on the weekend and if that keeps up hes gone. I also said other depth players are really nipping at his heels. I also stated I may be clouded in my judgement a little because I dont mind seeing him do well....thats because he played for what was known as the dirtiest club in Balmain, but even though he was dominating the comp, he was never dirty himself, i like that. I honestly couldn't give a stuff if Tony makes it or not. However, from ive seen he is a decent human and just a kid (in my eyes), so if someone on a forum is going to attack the kid with false information like Balmain Boy does then im going to call that out. BB claimed he gets dominated every hit up he makes. Yet couldn't point me towards one single time he got dominated. The fact is, he averages more metres per minute played than what Sam Fainu does. So I believe its fair to challenge BB on that comment, and he hasn't delivered anything to prove himself correct while im proving his comments incorrect.

Dont mistatke this as me thinking Tony is a gun, far from it. Just calling out dribble and treating the youngster fairly.

Anything else we need to address here?
Feds or Strathfield?

He hasn’t played professional footy in about 3 years & has looked poor in both trials he’s played. Watching the opposed training session Taylan was literally bullying him. If these are the sorts of signings we’ll be making with Richo no longer here we’re in trouble.
Again, he's the 29th player in a list of 30. Do I think Kotoni Staggs would "bully" Aublix Tawha or Delouise Hoeter in opposed training? I mean, yeah, quite possibly - that's why they're fourth or fifth choice on the depth chart. The bar we're trying to clear with this signing isn't Taylan May, it's Solomona Faataape and Jack Bird.

Again, if you have a suggestion of someone who could have been signed now, on minimum salary, who can plausibly play first grade in an injury crisis please go ahead and make it.

Spoke with a Canterbury mate today he said he loved the juniors we had playing on the weekend asked if Mak liked Chinese I just laughed at him

Those players are better then someone who hasn’t played NRL since 2022 or professional football for that matter.

Lol. Except when he left warriors before his contract ended to join the Broncos. Or before that when he left Broncos before his contract ended to join warriors.
When he first left the Broncos it was because he was told he's not ready to play first grade and to small for fullback and that was by Kevin Walters

It came down a choice between the Warriors and Tigers for season 21

He almost came to the Tigers for season 2020 the Tigers went very hard for him but the Broncos would not release him

Charlie is a winger or fullback who we tried as a centre and he didn’t appear up to it defensively.
Herbert does not have the speed of Staines, but he’s a bigger body who is a very good front on defender and a good hole runner.
So I don’t think we are comparing apples with apples when comparing those two.
We still still definitely have at least one availability for an outside back for our top 30 if a good one pops up, otherwise I assume we will promote from within.
He's also about 1/3 the cost

He's about the same level as Starford Toa at 1/3 of the cost
I hope Starford To’a eats a bit of concrete and toughens up, but I’m fearing right centre is going to be very problematic for us this season.
I’m satisfied with Patrick Herbert as a back up right centre option if To’a continues to play in a dinner suit and if we have no other better alternative options.
I’d like to think Taylan May might be open to changing from left centre to right centre if required.

Somebody else mentioned how rugby centres float from side to side all the time. Anybody sighted Big Mac training both sides?

Apparently he has trained on both sides, but his hip drop and fend are heavily favoured to him playing on the left hand side of the field.
Being the older more experienced player I think it would be a much easier transition for May if we wanted them both in the centres.

Is it 2025 Round 1-10 Toa or Second Half of the season Toa? The difference is stark and can cost you the game … Benji can’t pick him and hope for the best anymore
