Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I guess we can all make that assumption …

Toa’s injury has been around since at least half way through last season .. if he is still carrying it, must be a major worry and I question why they extended him 2 weeks before the end of last season …
If he has a bad injury, what the hell are medical team doing , he has had the of season to get it fixed , so again what the hell is the medical team doing

Not knowing the extent of his injury when we re-signed him late last season is an even bigger concern.
Let’s see if he comes out on Friday night and shows no discomfort, we can only hope.

The surgeon was saying over the off season that going under the knife is not going to fix it, will always be present from fending the opposition from close to his body and can aggravate it again

It is what it is and it sucks, just hope Toa can manage it but have no confidence at all with the low threshold for pain tolerance.

There is a shortage of quality centres emerging.
I know what you’re saying and I have long agreed with you that our talent is and emerging player recruitment could certainly be better in way of position specific height, weight & speed etc
But it’s not always as simple as what it seems as there are many young emerging players who look like Tarzan and play like Jane.
The undersized players generally have more mongrel and desire to take on the contest which is the very characteristics which is impressing me in players such as Logan Brookes and Luke Jack just to name a few.
Luke Laulilli and at times Heath Mason are others who play well above their high, size and weight and you could say the same about Charlie Murray who is smaller than your average middle forward.
We have to hope the Taotua boys progress.
Of course having size is only part of the puzzle. We don't want lumbering oafs.

But when other clubs can find players with size and pace it frustrates me that we can't/don't. Across all grades we have Makasini, that's it.

If that’s the problem, why the hell was he re-signed , I hope it was for a small fee

Honestly who from our side is worthy of SoO ? Seyfarth ? Twal ? Toa ? Skelton? Bird ? you can list list any name and there's 6 or so better players who'd be further up the line. Luai is about the only one and he was picked. He doesn't need to hate us to not pick our players - they just don't deserve it.
Api is up there but definitely not first choice. Luai is dropping to that category as well. Taylan may I think could excel in origin arena but centre is pretty stacked for nsw with all the excess fullbacks
Terrell has a way to go imo. Especially now that they have adjusted the eligibility criteria

He was extended back in August before the unfortunate news, who knows, maybe they didn't find out until a second opinion conflicted with the first that surgery would fix it.

Richo was here at the time and wouldn't have signed off on it if they knew the full extent of the injury.

I hope Starford To’a eats a bit of concrete and toughens up, but I’m fearing right centre is going to be very problematic for us this season.
I’m satisfied with Patrick Herbert as a back up right centre option if To’a continues to play in a dinner suit and if we have no other better alternative options.
I’d like to think Taylan May might be open to changing from left centre to right centre if required.
I've been thinking the same with Toa.
I was thinking Skelton playing with turuva on the right with May and Makasini on the left.
I thought Skelton looked good at the dogs when he played right centre. Though like Toa
he's injured a lot too.
Dobbie looked good last year at right centre too. I think Madden might be used more as
the year rolls on. I know we have Latu (injured a lot also). Madden has a general kicking(was pretty
good in the trials too). His passing game impressed me last week, very reynolds like.
Good problem for benji to have in the backs I guess.
Hope Latu has improved in areas in the offseason too. General kicking game is so crucial.
My lineup wouldn't be the same as many(if any here) and it won't be benji's either.
Forwards though, well I've wanted our remaining spots in the 30 in that area. Not Patty taking
up a spot. Be nice to have dominant pack that was spoken about for a change.I bet our backs
do too.

Makasini and Taupau-Moors fit the height, size, fitness and speed description, Ethan Roberts fits the description and as you say the Taotua brothers and Lachlan Broederlow also fit the description.
The Taotua brothers and Broederlow are frustrating as they always show glimpses of using their size and athleticism to their advantage, but seem to fade in and out of games and fade in and out of using their aggression to advantage.
Big year for all 3 of them as they are good enough to push for NRL in the 2nd half of the 2026 season, but if they don’t put in 💯 they will be out the back door.
