Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Or worked for anyone else? TBF In most occasions I think they don't work because the player was leaving anyways. I also don't necessarily think that is the case for Bula.

My opinion from the start (purely because it is what I'd be advising as a manager) was he will use the opening couple months of hopefully good form to increase his value and potentially number of suitors (which could then again increase his value if he is in high demand). Then he will make a decision. I've not had a reason to think any different as of yet.
I agree.

900-950 is tops for Bula. I doubt anyone is paying more than that.

Manager has probably advised as you said and also to see how we are going after 5 to 10 rounds.

As a player and given the club history and ownership craziness, it's sound advice.

Trying to strong arm will just end in tears.

I think it is especially sound given he has the option to fall back on. Unlike others, It's not like he is risking an injury in the meantime jeopardizing his future earnings. Without that option as his manager id be recommending securing your future but with it, it's the most logical play in my opinion.

If you were CEO why would the deal be done if you believe you can get a player that's better for the same money? This seems contradictory.

Also, if you release him, you'll need to pay out his contract, so we wouldn't have his money available to buy the better replacement.

All this would create a huge, self-imposed, drama.

Why can't we just activate/not activate our clause, leave the deal there until we need to make a move, then revoke the offer or deadline the deal at that point?

You sure you've thought this through?
If we release him to take up a contract with another club we may not necessarily have to contribute to the contract, especially if that club wants him badly enough to pay him more than our offer. Then we would have the money saved. Bula is an only slightly more talented option than Sloane from St George and no way he gets $800K from any club..

Sounds like a perfect plan. What could go wrong?

T May a priority now
Lomax , send out the feelers to Parra see what it would take , Skelton & Toa package plus $ 200 k , Lomax for 2 years ( wing , centre , fullback we would loose nothing and gain a spot , use the young guy from Penrith ,as fullback , just put him in , bulla went to grade with bugger all experience , so it can be done , dump bulla use his money on Lomax , Lomax is way better player , kicks goals , cover multiple positions , very strong hard runner , rep player just like we need
Bula for lomax swap deal.. although they have a great fullback

Selwyn Cobbo surely re-enters the discussion as a Plan B for Bula.

Chances slim to take the lad out of Queensland plus we don't often get players from the Orr management group (PSM) but $$$ talk and he could be a viable right centre too if Attard, Brookes or Tavana become irresistible fullback options down the track.

"Selwyn has aspirations to be a centre or fullback, so at the end of the day it could come down to a positional ambition."
Drink water ,or chuck a wicket at Purdue. My tip is one of them will shake free.

I'm not sure why there is so much angst. We can exercise the club option and keep him here if we want and we have provided two alternate options for him to consider that the club blieves reflects his value. We also have a couple of young fellas applying pressure from below.

IF Bula was playing out of his skin at the end of last year and put in a decent performance in the trial I may be a little more concerned.

We have provided options for Bula and he hasn't taken them up (yet) so we need to be working on what the future looks like without him. There aren't teams jumping over Moses to make offers for his services so that tells you how well he is rated outside of Tigerland.
I was not in favour originally of our option because of the dollars involved but what I do like about it is that it buys us some time and Moses does not get a cent. (that bit I like the most)

If after that extension is signed and Moses tries on his usual shitty tactics which Bula would need to be a party to, but I'm not sure if Bula is the type to go on with something like that anyway, I think he is far from being a Mitchell Moses.

Recent court rulings regarding contracts might just make things a little bit more uncomfortable for the NRL and for player managers like Isaac Moses to be carrying on in his usual accustomed manner.

A number of things could happen going forward, one of our young players steps up and kills it and becomes a viable replacement for Bula, someone good comes onto the market that we can go after or Bula improves as does the whole team and we are suddenly contenders and Bula want to stay long term to become a one club player.

Lets face it, there are lots of things that could happen but if we did take up the option it does buy us time even if it does cost us a bit more than we would currently like to pay for Bula considering his current form and stage of development.

Is the new CEO even working on any important retentions? Twal and Sione a month ago (let’s be honest tho they were 90+% of staying), Herbert who is a cup player at best and desperate for a lifeline? Why would he dry out talks with Terrell over this?

It's a beat up. I think...

HBG have been known to be a spanner in the works when it comes to recruitment, but we are unified. Remember that.

I could see Cobbo moving to Townsville to play centre, Scott Drinkbeer moved on and Jaxon Purdue becoming the Cows fullback
Scott Drinkwater wouldn't be the worst idea at Fullback..

Not the best, not the worst. Plus he is probably melting in Townsville.

That all said, there is enough demand of players wanting Fullback and the dollars to play there. It's just will we actually upgrade Bula?

I don't mind paying overs IF we get quality. We seem to have a "good" player in Bula when many teams have a "Great" fullback.

I would rather pay Warbrick 1.3m to get him here. At least we know the guy crosses the line. Bula is a good player and can be dangerous. But by locking up so much cap with him it means a real gun is harder to get.

He’ll be fine in Townsville. Drink water is in his name 🤔
