Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Because he is a reserve grader who didn’t want to learn under Api. Parra paid more than $500k for a reserve grader. And just like his mate at the bulldogs , when you don’t ply your trade and learn in reserve grade, you look like a fool in first grade.
Da Silva plays and makes mistakes as a relatively inexperienced player does. He should be in the NSW Cup for the next six months. This is what happens when unrealistic expectations are placed upon a young but talented player. Marshall would never say I told you so but the club made the correct decision.

No mate, when you practise for months and you can’t find your half back on tackle 5 that’s poor in rugby league. And since 1908 you’ve copped a gob full.

Tend to agree re Moses personality but he’s not just going to accept his team running near last and playing dumb.
Fair enough but times have changed and I think constantly berating a team mate publicly will have detrimental effects on the team.

If we've got someone coming through who is likely to be ready to be first choice starter in 2028 but not 2027 it makes perfect sense to keep the incumbent for 2027. Most players are capable of being professional and playing hard for a club they're leaving.

Case in point: Stephen Crichton signed for the Dogs for 2024 before the start of the 2023 season yet in 2023 he played 24 games for Penrith, was their second highest try scorer and took a starring role in the grand final.
For every Crichton there's plenty of Moses and Galvins.

All the pundits have been talking up Parra for this year. I thought they'd be OK, but wow, never seen a team put the cue in the rack 2nd half of the first game of season, that was pitiful.
Credit where its due Moses was the only one playing 80 mins last night
Never understood why so many had them going so well this year. Their roster is not any better than last year, in fact it is probably worse.

They will struggle to get out of their own end with smaller wingers and will also struggle to make metres further up the field. Of their four main middles, Paulo is aging and not what he used to be and the other 3 are all 13s not known for meterage (Hopgood, De Belin and Walker). Their edge defense is also very questionable with Kautoga, Pezet and Kelly potentially the worst defensive edge getting around.

You can understand why they're so desperate to get a player in return for Lomax rather than money. That in itself tells you Ryles knows they need more.

100% and the club deserves way more credit as they copped a flogging when they released him.. If this was another club the praises would have been flowing in

I agree that Da Silva is nowhere near ready to be a starting 9 but I think it is way to soon to determine if the correct decision was made.

Gosh they got smashed in the middle. Moses is the one copping it but Pezet was awful. If we have any ambitions of making the 8 we need to be beating Parra.

Unfortunately TDS deserves the criticism.
Played like a reserve grader.
Smith was awful as well, these kids are obviously lacking someone who can mentor them in that position. I don't think Parra have an experienced specialist 9 on the coaching staff or playing group. TDS may end up having a long career or he may regret leaving a club where he had one of the best 9's of the last decade to learn from.

Pretty sure I saw Nathan Brown sitting next to Ryles in the box last night.

Well that's why you want to have good player management. There's no hard and fast rule and you can't pre-judge any situation. What I do know is that Penrith probably doesn't win the 2023 grand final without Crichton and on that basis alone it's not a good idea to say you're never going to keep a player who knows he's leaving the following year.

I think.they make metres well as.long as they hold the ball...theyre quick and throw it around...when it sticks.rheyre dangerous
Their forwards were rolled tho last nite

They have points in them and if Moses has an injury free run who knows. Biggest issue for them is depth, hooker and forward mobility.

Eels are a typical momentum team. Mentally they are a problem, were last year and last night you could see similar issues. But if they get on a run they will score points and fast.

They will win a fair few games though have too much class and speed on the park not to.

Unfortunately it was TDS that was requiring the decision to be made when he didn’t want API re signed. He wasn’t prepared to learn in preparation for when he ‘might’ be ready in 2027-8
I agree.
I rate Da Silva and think he will be a very good NRL starting hooker in time, but he was getting well ahead of himself and it’s staggering to think the Eels are paying him what was rumoured to be over 600k per season.

You didn't watch Tiger games the last few years?
