Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Never understood why so many had them going so well this year. Their roster is not any better than last year, in fact it is probably worse.

They will struggle to get out of their own end with smaller wingers and will also struggle to make metres further up the field. Of their four main middles, Paulo is aging and not what he used to be and the other 3 are all 13s not known for meterage (Hopgood, De Belin and Walker). Their edge defense is also very questionable with Kautoga, Pezet and Kelly potentially the worst defensive edge getting around.

You can understand why they're so desperate to get a player in return for Lomax rather than money. That in itself tells you Ryles knows they need more.
🥄...😂 Ryles isn't the coach everyone had pumped him up to be.

I think he played well when he played first grade.
Seemed a tough player.

Probably prioritised other players.
I would say his age went against him as he is now 29 I think ?
It’s ideal to have a few big bodied wingers in the system to ensure there is always a big bodied winger ready for NRL if injuries occur.
We have Makasini and Skelton, but let’s say Makasini gets an opportunity playing centre and plays so well we cannot move him back to the wing and Skelton is out injured, we do not currently have another big bodied winger to call upon, unless we start playing Max Taotua on the wing, a position he’s played quite regularly in the past, despite being a centre only over the past 12 months.

Would you bring MM back alongside luai? I would. AD to 13
I don’t know. The best of MM would make us a better side no doubt.

I thought I saw a few signs on Thursday night he might not be that guy anymore. I know it’s only one game.

We’ve also maxed out our halves budget.

We don’t need Mitch as I think we now have a really good blend of halves all at the right part of their careers to dominate and surprise us all.
Luai back at 5/8 is a huge positive, but I’m not really concerned which one of our main 4 halves are in the team as I have extreme confidence in all 4 of them, possibly 5 if we include the emerging Javon Andrews.

It’s a huge turn off. I used to watch 4 or 5 games a weekend but now I watch every Tigers game & 1 or 2 others. Most Nrl fans I know don’t like the 6 again rule. I heard V’Landys saying more people watch nrl than ever before but I wonder what the percentage is of those viewers that only watch to see how their fantasy team players score. My wife’s entire family are the perfect example, they would on average really only watch Parra but they all play Super Coach in a family comp & most watch nearly every game now just to watch individual players. I love the Tigers so I will remain a rusted on Nrl fan but it can be frustrating watching a game be decided by officials & not players
Fantasy sports and gambling are the biggest drivers of new viewership these days. Especially for younger generations who have so many options outside of watching NRL purely for the game.

MM would make us better but he is still the same , a person I would not trust , he dogged it hear before and bringing him back would be a disaster , AD for me alongside Luai , I think these guys will bond nicely and only get better as the season goes on, spend our cash on other players not MM

Lomax did a lot of heavy lifting in yardage and turning half chances into full ones . Like the one where Penisini kind of goes through and hits it for the corner . Lomax has a knack for being there when others arnt . It’s why his move to wing was such a “oh der , of course” moment when it happened.
JAC is the guy , who takes the run after the run . And he’s real good at it . But if you don’t have the guy who takes the run , he’s basically ineffective .
Think back to how many tries they scored from lomax either brilliance when he got the ball or pure power creating opportunities for others .

Agree.
Lomax in particular, but also JAC are both much better players than what they often get credit for.
I know it’s highly unlikely, but Zac Lomax has stated he was a Wests Tigers fan and a massive Benji Marshall fan growing up.
IF we come up with a suitable swap and signed him to play in his preferred right centre position, I reckon he could help us go very deep into this 2026 competition.
Not that I want to lose him as a rate him highly, but I reckon the Eels could be interested in a swap for Jeral Skelton ? Maybe throw Starford To’a in as part of the deal and we would still be better off.
And yes I know Zac Lomax is a better winger than he is a centre, but I think part of his problem was that the Eels initially promised him he would play right centre when they signed him from the Dragons and that never eventuated.
At the end of the day he can still do his valuable yardage carries and still be a lethal aerial threat while playing right centre.

This is fantasy but if Lomax was available, I'd flip Toa for him in an instant, I know he comes across as a real A hole but if it meant the difference in getting into the top 8 no hesitation.

Look how strong the Storm are every year, you don't get to stay there being the good guys, you need to get ruthless when you're roster needs work.

💯 RHS.
Whether you like Zac Lomax’ actions or not, he would fit into our team at right centre like a glove and would help make us a better team.
I would go as far as to say we would definitely make the top 8 and would challenge for the Premiership with Zac Lomax at right centre.
After all Craig Bellamy was willing to fit him in at right centre.

Agree , if Bellamy was willing to take the risk and Ryan Matto then yep Lomax in our team all day , problem is who would Parra want to swap out and also how much cash
Toa value by Parra would be low probably 350/400 max and he ain’t in Lomax ball park , probably be one of our gun kids like Macca or Luai , we don’t have a huge amount of properly paid players , ours are on overs , or some of them , maybe Bulla for Lomax , I’d be all over that , we do Lomax for 2 years and have the same contract exit as Parra had , so if he signs he knows it’s for 2 years , never know he could enjoy it at Tigers and stay longer ,

I actually think someone like Lomax with his half break and offloading ability would really help bring Bula’s speed more into the game.
Someone like Skelton with his big body yardage carries and finishing ability is very valuable and would be of big interest to a team such as the Eels, but he will probably miss out on our top 17 with the emergence of Makasini.

Lomax has created a problem for himself because he has established form of dicking clubs around.

For the money and the hassle that could come with it, plus he'll be gone to R360 in 2028, it's too disruptive for where we are the the moment. We don't need to add the 1 or 2 season mercenary star into the culture we are trying to build.

This guy is a classic, Melbourne, Roosters, Broncos or wherever Bennett is coaching signing.

It could mean we have a team capable of winning the competition in the next 1-2 years.

He didn’t have the same quality of players around him that we now have.
Agree
Lomax would be a huge get , replaces Toa on the right centre , can kick , return runs with ball very strong , good in the air and is a powerful player strength wise , he has that attitude of stuff you and will just compete ,
