Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Seems to me Matai has been treading water here forever,
Can't imagine he's worth perservering with with Madden and Andrews here.
You need these type of players in NSW Cup for depth and to deliver the required NRL structures at that level. He is a very good ball player & runner, just had some defensive deficiencies to work on. A pre-Xmas train & trial with the NRL squad may have done him wonders. Let's see how he comes up.

Just the news we needed🤦
He said he has league goals and union is a down 5he track thing. A little bit different to “open to union” . If his goals are premierships and rep honours for the tigers , then we have a lot to look forward to .

He would be silly not to be open to it, or any option. All players say this kind of thing to maximise contract value. He is going to be a hot commodity in 2027 regardless if its union or league. All he really said is that it is an option and even mentioned that his passion is Rugby League.

For the Tigers and Benji, the most important thing over the next few years is to create an environment he wants to be in and a club he wants to be a part of moving forward. Get his development right and get the team into the top 8. That is how you re-sign him and hopefully for less that any other code or NRL club offers.

Champion @Canadian Club - you've nailed it for retention of all players.
No one wants to bust a gut without job satisfaction/achievements.

Maverick has signed with Perth. Has informed the club.
If he’s secured a multi year deal and spot in the 17, then good on him. Something he probably wasn’t going to get here.

He’s got KPP and Samuela in front of him, with Godinet taking up that first second rower up in 2027. Sukkar and Roberts may also be pushing for spots depending on their development this season.

Yup, said it before - we'll hear this noise all year if he goes the way we expect him to go.

Also, any chance Bula signs before the weekend? Really don't want to hear about crap like this all season.

Dragons to pounce on Jahream Bula if Tigers can’t seal deal

St George Illawarra plans to make a huge play for Jahream Bula to be the long-term successor for Clint Gutherson if the star fullback doesn’t come to terms with the Wests Tigers.

Bula has a mutual option in his contract for 2027. The Tigers have until next month to exercise it, which would result in him playing next season on a salary of $900,000. If they choose not to, Bula can take up a player option to stay put by the following month at a price of $900,000. If neither occurs, Bula is free on the open market.

Sources not authorised to speak publicly because Bula’s isn’t a free agent have told this masthead that the Dragons will make the No.1 a priority target if he can’t strike an agreement with the Tigers.

Both clubs identify Bula as a potential franchise player. Dragons officials, to ensure they were observing anti-tampering rules, contacted the NRL to get clarification on when they are permitted to approach Bula. That can only happen if the deadline for Bula or the Tigers to take up the option expires.

The Tigers remain hopeful of coming to terms with the Fijian international, but it won’t happen before their season kicks off. Former chief executive Shane Richardson felt he was close to securing commitments from Bula and Luai before he resigned late last year. Bula’s wife Aaliyah - the daughter of former Bulldogs, Dragons, Sea Eagles and Tigers forward Solomon Haumono - was last year cut from the Tigers’ NRLW squad.

The Tigers have signed promising Panther Jack Attard, a former Australian Schoolboys fullback, as insurance should Bula move on.

Bula has also been linked with Canterbury Bulldogs, fullback Connor Tracey is off contract at the end of the season. (SMH)

Isaac Moses is also Shane Flanagan’s manager. I’ve said it multiple times on here, the moment we mentioned in the media we were confident of re-signing Bula (which we first did months ago and have done a few times since) we were in big trouble. Isaac uses that stuff against you.

Moses might be mates with Flanagan … but will they offer more money than the Tigers have ? You think they would have to offer more to get Bula to leave …they are hardly a better destination than the Tigers
