Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Webster has much more leeway, hes not deperate for jobs and players. He is a smart operator, he wont take Moses scraps, he looks to develop internally. Under Webster, the warriors have made less external signings than any other club. Fisher Harris and RTS are the only notables and they were due to other circumstances.

Barnett, Ford, Erin Clark and Metcalfe are the other 4 and all of those guys were unwanted and Webster personally identified them. Look at all four of them now...

I have said this and will continue to say this, if something were to happen to Benji and i could pick any coach to take over the WT long term, my first choice would be Andrew Webster, and i will die on that hill. Andrew Webster is everything the rugby league media pretend Ciraldo is.

The player who said to me two years ago that he was glad Webster is finally getting the credit he deserves instead of Ciraldo taking all the credit at Penrith as assistant was a Penrith origin player and he still is an origin player and I posted that in. Here two years ago and he gave the impression that he didn't like Ciraldo but loved Webster

His face to face interview was super impressive for me. Great communicator.

As others have alluded to, Sukkar has been very good in all 3 of our NSW Cup games this season and looks a much improved player.
I wouldn’t be writing Will Craig off either, he’s been breaking plenty of tackles and looks strong and fast. His defence and catching high balls are a concern, but he could improve in these areas.
given you’ve got a pretty clear read on both of them andtracking NSW Cup form pretty closely.

what’s the actual cutoff for “developing” vs just being where they are?

Because at the moment it reads as:
Sukkar > improving
Craig > improving, with concerns, but also improving

So both trending up. Just at different speeds. Or different standards. Which is fine.

Just trying to work out where you draw the line between patience and decision.

Or if the plan is to let time sort it out. Nothing wrong with that either.

If we're serious then Craig is lucky to make the Flegg side. Small, not very fast poor in defence and worse in the air. He's got a bit of skill but in reality he's struggling to make our Flegg squad when everyone is fit.

You're saying that Craig’s got traits. Just not enough of them, often enough, in the areas that matter?

Are we just calling it early on Craig? Because that reads less like “development” and more like… a ceiling.

Which is fine.

Just not the version we were being sold a few posts ago by Vicious. Funny how quickly the language tightens when you remove hope.

His ceiling is Jersey Flegg. If his agent hadn't swindled an NRL contract out of our previous management then he'd be outta here this year.

We have much better prospects who we should be focusing our limited resources on. Lanyon for one.

Some people like to sugar coat everything rather than be realistic. Craig is a long long way behind the likes of Laulilii, tavana, Skelton , Saukuru, Brookes. Not all juniors kick on, he's one that won't in all likelihood

From Weidler’s column today:

Tracey poised to ink Dogs deal

The Bulldogs expect fullback Connor Tracey will agree to a new two-year contract in the next 48 hours.

The club wanted to wait until after the Las Vegas season opener to make their offer to Tracey and did so when club general manager of football Phil Gould took Tracey for a Chinese meal at Canterbury Leagues during the week.

Gould told Tracey to put it to one side until after Saturday’s clash with Newcastle. Tracey has played his best football at the Bulldogs where he has settled in at fullback after arriving as one of many utility players signed two years ago. It would be a surprise if he didn’t put pen to paper by Sunday night.

Yes well from my point of view Tony Sukkar was always a work in progress as he has a big, strong, solid physique and has good speed and speed off the mark for a young man of his size. Like many young players, particularly forwards I felt he has been holding back over the past couple of years, only doing the bare minimum and not always approaching the contact as strongly as he should be to utilise his size and strength.
NRL exposure can do wonders for a young player’s confidence level and from what I have seen, young Sukkar is a much improved player in 2036 who now embraces the contact, looks to what to be much more involved and looks confident in himself that he has the size, strength and speed to donate his opponents.
His future NRL top 17 prospects are now looking very strong and I would be trying to re-sign him for a couple of more seasons if we can, but keep in mind I think he is another Isaac Moses client.
As for Will Craig he is also noticeably stronger, fitter and faster in 2026.
You would like to think plenty of practice can help him fix his issues under the high ball and his defence issues are mainly bad reads as opposed to missing tackles due to poor technique or lack of physicality.
He has always been strongly built, but is now very powerfully built and looks to have worked hard on his increased fitness levels which also look to have helped him increase or maximise his speed.
I assume Will himself would be well aware he was very lucky to have been given a top 30 position for 2026 based on his form over the past 2 seasons, but there is also no doubt he is doing plenty right behind the scenes tj give himself every opportunity to be the best version of himself possible and I think it’s a clear case of wait and see how he continues to play throughout the season.
I would like to see him moved back to his preferred centre position and see if his tackle break ability can be a big positive for our NSW Cup team.

Sukkar gets a little bit better each season. He is going great on the right edge in Cup so far this season, solid solid solid.
He's a product of our development system and the type of player all teams require to be competitive. I always enjoy a player who improves incrementally each year. Colquhoun from the Sharks is another forward who has improved incrementally which is why Fitzgibbon holds him in high regard. I am sure Marshall is keeping a close watch on Sukkar.

Well Liam Ayoub who was Bulas manager has just announced as leaving the Dogs to become PNG recruitment manager.
After watching the Dogs play, I am not convinced they are on the rise or are a top four team. They lack genuine pace which was demonstrated when the big UK winger burnt them on at least three occasions.
