Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Because he is a fraud and always will be. He’s made a career from being a talent identified when he was in high school. I’ve never seen someone have a career like he has. He is shit. Case in point, look at Manly. He won’t get resigned.

He was never a fraud, he was victim of the wests tigers playing players out position. He grew up a 6. Stood out as a 6. And this stupid club thought they'd try make him a 7. I feel sorry for him

Agree. It's been said that WT got it so wrong and that Moses 7 and Brooke's 6 was the correct way to play them. Oh well.
Plus he and Moses were a dynamic duo. IMO Brooks needed someone to play off and became lost when Moses left and he was expected to step up on his own. And he rarely did !
I think at Manly firstly DCE didn’t really give him what he needed and so far Fogarty hasn’t either.

He shit on the club that set him up for life. He gave interviews trashing the club on his way out and was stood down with a fake injury, instead of exiting with dignity.
The grub burnt his bridges and I'm revelling in his continued failure.

100%. The only bloke to stay loyal too. If his ability wasnt up to where we wanted, thats on us, not him.

The hatred should be reserved for the other 3. Particularly woods with the way he left, as club captain. Teddy's dad has a lot to answer for too. Wanker.

They gave him a BBQ when he left after ruining his career... they did everything they could to belittle the bloke.

Lets be fair, as fans, not a soul here could say they havent talked trash about the dogs breakfast this club has been the last 15 years and we ddidnt have to turn up and put our bodies on the line.

Dont care what anyone says
I think Brooks is a top lad and I have all thr time in the world for him

"Fraud" is emotive but he certainly wasn't the player he was anticipated to be. I think the point is why he was a 6 not a 7: sure, he had a good running game and his support play is strong but he was a poor kicker, had no game management and his selection of options in attack fell to pieces under pressure. Anyone who plays in the halves with those weaknesses is always going to be hugely limited.

Case in point: Brooks at Manly. Playing five-eighth with a generationally talented game manager at half and one of the most devastating attacking threats in recent times at fullback, he was able to convince those that don't watch too closely that he'd become a different player. The moment any more responsibility than that is placed on him, same old Brooks.

None of that is his fault, per se. And the Tigers certainly should have either realised sooner that he wasn't a 7 (and not paid him accordingly). But I think they had to try it, at least in the hope that he'd figure a few things out and hit his supposedly vast ceiling.

I don't know how anyone can hate a player (Brooks) who gave everything he had for the club.

Sure that might not have been what we were hoping out of him, but he stuck solid and never "tanked". Fans turning on him didn't help the situation.

I really wished he'd kick on at Manly. Might go and enjoy a decent spell in England now.

To call him a fraud is ridiculous.

Similarly,
Steve Edmeds' boy left the Club (his Junior Club)
because they saw his future as a Hooker ONLY.

Has since represented his Country in the Halves at Rugby.
Meanwhile,
We have a club mostly full of imported Halves?

He got far more than a barbeque they set him up for life with contracts that exceeded his output. The club tried to build a team around him and he did have stints at 6 beside Benji and Hastings. Outlasted all the coaches that failed with him as a key playmaker and was backed by all of them - Benji wanted to retain him. He wanted out well before he saw out his contract well documented. Can't be blamed individually for any failure at the club but the club can't be blamed for his deficiencies as a player either. - individuallly talented but not a team manager or leader.
Got to play finals at Manly and has outlasted another coach.

You think he might end up at parra next season. Finally get the duo back together for one last hurrah.

Its not Lukes fault the club gave him an insanely big contract and still chose to play him out of position. Neither are Luke's fault. Its the clubs fault. It would be like getting upset if we shifted Api to #7 and didnt turn it on like andrew johns. It was poor management by the club on multiple fronts.

So they backed him. He was given opportunity at 6 on numerous occasions. Everyone who played beside Brooks carried the burden for his lack of leadership and decision making and were moved around to accommodate him. He was always backed by coaches and teammates he just never rose to the challenge. He is the same player at Manly - has all the natural ability but rocks and diamonds.
I can bag the club for doing lots of things arse up but can't cop blame for Brooks career.

He better get a passport ready for his next contract.
Unless he’s gunna hit the BBQ comp circuit.
