Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

It is an interesting move and does go against their constitution. The reality is they are under the microscope because they "own" Wests Tigers NRL club. Nobody would care about their dysfunctional shenanigans if they just ran pokie dens and a soccer team...in fact its probably applauded and encouraged. I wonder if there is a view that getting rid of the high profile NRL club might take the attention away and this move is the start of a shift in that direction.

Sorry TYGA i have to agree in one respect and dissagree in another. I agree in terms of the ammount of money being given every year is a large ammount. But totally disagree we are well funded for ourselves let alone compared to other teams. We are one of if not the poorest. This is my point, HBG have the revenue to make Wests Tigers a powerhouse, yet the funding model is one of sustainability. They give us just enough to keep us going. This is what i got from a quick google a.i skim.

Bulldogs recieve $5.2 million annually plus $1 - $1.2 as a guarantee on top if they cant find a major sponsor.

Parramatta i couldnt find annual funding though in 2024 the leagues club made a funds injection of $19.3 million dollars.

Roosters recieve $ 3 million from the leagues club annually plus $1 million to the roosters academy.

St George recieve $2 - $3 million annually.

Wests Tigers have recieved $34 million over a 25 year period avg about $1.36 million a year. Over the last 2 years HBG have given $1.6 million per year to keep the Wests Tigers sustainable. I totally get this involves the other leagues clubs as well. HBG havnt always been 90% owners, but theyve all failed us. Parramatta leagues put in $19 million in 2024 alone. Thats more than half all our owners have put in, in 25 years toward the N.R.L team.

Couldnt find anything about the Panthers though, only the leagues club makes monumental money and im assuming its just an open chequebook for them.

Compared to the other N.R.L teams running around we must be one of if not the poorest. What irks me the most is we recieve just enough to keep us going, yet there are funds to buy and support an A league team.
It is so hard to find accurate and comparative information for funding. The info found is often conflicting. For example a club developing facilities will have greater investment than one with first class facilities already built. Some sources say Roosters receive annual grants from their leagues club others suggest their own football club revenue covers their costs and the leagues club only supports if needed.
The football club revenue would be different from club to club as well. Say one clubs revenue is 10mil and another's is 5mil. The owner of the 10mil club might chuck in another million whilst the owner of the 5mil club chucks in 6mil. They would be operating from the same football budget but one owner would be getting called cheap and the other generous.
I think there are too many variables (and not enough easily accessible public information) for anyone to say with any certainty what is the case for us in comparison to others.

Also... not only are Wests Leagues Club the owners, it's their mandate (literally in their constitution) that they must foster and support local rugby league.
