OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

Not sure how richo leaving has anything to do with this, Luai isn’t leaving cus richo lrft, it’s for money, and I get the impression this has been a long term plan and is why he never got rid of the clauses
Luai was about to remove his clauses before HBG set fire to the place. If they didn't take the actions they did, Luai wouldn't have the ability to talk to PNG. We wouldn't be in this situation.

Come May we may not have a fullback & 5/8 lol
Sam & Latu, Mays, Turuva, Makasini free to negotiate end of the year.
The club leaves itself vulnerable that’s always been the issue.

Well as much of a disaster as HBG may be, at least they helped us out with that.

Lets put context into this.
Luai has until April 30 to take up his offer and as to which one. He wouldn’t be leaving until 28 anyway so here this and next season.

We are talking after next season.

May & Fainu bros + Bula need extensions which will cost us more.

We have Latu, Andrews, Madden all in the wings plus who know in 2yrs time what changes/who steps up/what door opens - maybe large boys come back…

I don’t begrudge him whatever he decides & if he leaves don’t think in 18mths time it’s the end of the world either.
Yep. Need Bula, May x 2, Turuva & Fainu x 2 to extend.

I don't think we loose the Fainu's with Sione locked into 2029 already.

Turuva may follow as they are very close.

The May's could do anything.

I agree with other with Madden & Andrews & pending Latu we have good halves depth. So could be a blessing for our salary cap.

More worried about the others than Luai

This could be an absolute blessing. He is in no way worth anywhere close to what we're paying him on the field. Doueihi and Madden have both been better this year, and obviously we've still got Latu around with a ton of potential.

I'd understand if we were paying Luai 600-700k a year, which is generous, but the going rate for a middle of the pack first grade half. But gee we'd lucky to get out of that albatross of a contract.
Omg you people are insufferable, he is our main man, the player thee team and the culture is built around .. everything about his contribution to the club has been outstanding

That’s the thing, they haven’t extended. Now the club will be backed into a corner. The lack of proactiveness instead of reaction with our squad has been an issue for years.

if bula and Terrel and taylan go too it could hurt us
They would have to live in a compound in Port Moresby. I don't know if they May boys would enjoy that, being boys from Mt Druitt they most likely wouldn't like the restrictive lifestyle, signing with the Warriors & living in NZ would be more comfortable.

I'm sure some players who sign for the Chiefs will get "buyer's remorse", others will use a "siege" or camp like mentality approach & commit for the big $$ they just can't possibly make here.

He will be 31 and been here 3 years at the time of it. It gives Latu real time to progress as well as Andruws . I actually really like it . He spends the next 2 years building up the clubs foundations . And helping with standards and a future proof culture , and then he goes and gets his bag . No issues from me

Maybe he has some family in PNG good luck to him if he did go to PNG would set up his family

Luai is definitely here for this year and next. Am I the only one who would be OK with him going to PNG for 28 onwards?

Frees up a huge chunk of salary cap, and we have Latu and Madden ready, not to mention Andrews coming through, any of which could/should be ready to play alongside Doueihi in 2028. Could even be a win/win if it means we don't lose our young up and coming stars...

I like what Jarome has brought to the club but as long as everything is transparent I'm fine with it.

I do not think he is going to go , he is committed to the Tigers and Benji vision and is our marquee player , of course it was worth’s a look and he probably had a look as a favour to chamas
I think Luai is a bit like a entrepeneur. He sees an opportunity to make some good coin whilst he can. You can't begrudge players for doing so. If he moves I don't think we will be worse off without him as much as like his passion.

If we have a bunch of players leave because Luai leaves they're not very team first are they?

A lot of apologists here for an average player who is significantly overpaid. A player our team played just as well, if not better without.

Yes he's helped turn us around and contributed greatly off the field, but we can also do a lot better than paying 1.2m to a guy who's average and likely to regress as he enters his 30s.

Not sure about this but what happened to “if the club looks after me I’ll look after them” and “I wanna be here for 10 years”

Was obviously all garbage. Not sure going mid season when team is coming 3rd is a good look especially as the captain.

Shaun and club really need to pull their finger out and get some players re-signed or we could be in a world of pain in coming months.

Agree. Also we have Latu and Sma Fainu plus both Mays coming off end of 2027. If Laui leaves we have money to retain them. If he stays we won't especially given Mays and Sam came to us on lower money for various reasons so all 3 will need upgrades plus Turuva too.

I like everything Jarome brings but can also see the positives for us especially given it would give us 18 months to plan ahead

It’s extremely likely they will be both be still here next year even if they decide to leave …so they have a bit of time to get their replacements sorted ,,,Im more concerned about Bula then JL to be honest …

Yes.. they are “vulnerable “ to them leaving …but all of those players on that list are going to require more money than they are getting now to stay here …Luai’s money should assist there

Where were we pre Luai?
