Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

In isolation, this isn't a big deal.

If they pillage our club and we are left decimated while all the fringe guys get swallowed up with tax free money incentives as well, it really makes it hard to replace your losses.

A guy on 250k is pocketing $20k a month over there vs around $12 in Australia. Big difference...a guy like Madden on $350k is more likely to sit in PNG as depth for 3 years if he is not paying tax...tbh...I'm thinking they will have a really strong side and any time they want to recruit, they will get their man...I think this is a disaster by the NRL and clubs will revolt as PNG pick the eyes out of other clubs.

The advantage is too big and even worse for clubs that already struggle to attract players because of geography.

I doubt Albo is losing the next election .. but there is currently bi partisan support for this PNG team ..

Can I ask if you feel sick about $600m …how do you feel about spending $300 BILLION on lnuclear submarines ?
Government's can change whatever legislation they want - and will do if there's enough public interest in doing so. I'm don't think that $600M of Australian taxpayers money to subsize a sport is good value. If they want to subsidize Australian sport then give the funds to the AOC not some competition in some corrupt 3rd world country.

I’ll wait and see ..I’m not smelling it mate that anything is getting walked back just yet a while ..

Yes ..this is true ..

We won’t know though if this will happen for 6 months or more …in the meantime everyone may as well enjoy our best season in 15 years

I agree..it doesn't change what is happening now, but if PNG are now first choice, only one club gets to compete for the best players at ALL LEVELS....even a young up and comer would likely pick PNG to cash in and set themselves up.

I don't think the NRL has thought this through and it makes a mockery of the cap.

Very funny, you worry about corruption but want to give money to the AOC. How about FIFA and the IOC while we are at it? Always money well spent

Of course.clubs will be losing players they arent going to be a new team full of.locals....$4m covers a few players
That's unfair say if one team loses 6 players to the expansion clubs while others lose only one or even no players.

Teams that have a lot of players coming off contract, like Wests Tigers are the teams going to be hit hardest, especially if it's led by one of their marquis players leaving, causing some of his team mates to follow.

TIGER NEWS: Wests Tigers rookie Faaletino Tavana is in line for an NRL return this week after training with the first-grade side on Wednesday.

Tavana, named in jersey No.19, trained in place of Jeral Skelton, who was spotted in the reserves during the opposed session.

Meanwhile, Heamasi Makasini is out of his moon boot and back on the field after his foot injury

With 1.2 million freed up for 2028 and several of our key players (May brothers, Samuela and Latu) being off contract, no reason we shouldn’t be an in the drivers seat to retain them. Hell, Knights just re-signed Ponga.

By Terrell’s own account, his extension was all but signed and has been forgotten (if true, Shaun should be fired). And that’s with PNG already in the mix. If we can get Terrell sorted, Taylan will more than likely follow.

I don’t see any of the Fainu boys going anywhere with Benji as coach, Sione already signed long term and Latu about to be handed the keys with Luai leaving.

Keeping the Fainus is the priority. Obviously I want to keep the May's, but I dont think its all lost of we dont. Extend Latu, extend Bula or try and get Flecher Hunt if Bula leaves, keep Jock....and we have the foundation still.

I have no doubt at all Douehi partnered with Latu or Jock is a better mix. I wanted Latu or Jock to partner Laui with AD being more versatile, but now this has happened, im ok with AD staung in the halves with a more suitable partner in Latu or Jock.

funding it is locked in for 10 years re png
only chance it would get walked back after 10 years is if coalition win government and One Nation has the balance of power and they want the government to roll back funding

We wont lose 6...heck i dont think there has ever been a.player exodus worse than the Magpies losing 5 in 1980...thatll be almost 50 years .
Yes some clubs will be affected.more than others...whatddya do..weve already accepted the NRLs pay off as has all the others

Does anyone else have a feeling that Benji feels Jerome hasn't been worth the 1.2m price tag and this has been a very mutual decision?
That's the feeling I got out of all of this and the press conference with Benji. The way the team has evolved is we dont have anyone really dominating and winning games for us, that means no real marquee players however more players on above average money....Luai's input on field compared to his wage is an obvious outlier.
