Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

It's a delicate issue to deal with ie. keeping a top junior in reggies.
They all want to play NRL so how much do you pay them to hang around?
If they are potentially that good, they get offers from other clubs or are shopped by their managers for a better deal. A bidding war? Then it becomes a challenge to put a price on their worth versus risk.
Ultimately the player must make the call. How confident are they that they will make it.
Other clubs can be ruthless, and circumstances can change very rapidly. An opening for an NRL position can disappear overnight with a new signing you didn't see coming and were never told about by the destination club. Then you become their depth player.
Ultimately it comes back to how well they were helped to get there by the incumbent club. Loyalty, support, sticking with mates, club culture and the club's future trajectory.
Big decisions for the club and player, with fingers crossed, to get it right.
What irks me is that you lose plenty of them to clubs that promise first grade opportunity, but they've just been lied to and they end up playing reserves for the new club anyway.

If all you are offering is a contract than they will compare it against is a contract they may get at another club and that has been the crux of the problem at WT, in order to sweeten the deal we offer them a top 30 or NRL starting spot too early in order not to lose them as these are all the levers we have available to us. The difference now is there seems to be a cultural shift where players that would be in demand at other clubs are actually extending and not even "testing the market" see the Mays, Bula, Turuva these are genuine NRL starters at any team in the comp....when have we ever seen this happen at Wests Tigers before. So the next step is start regularly winning games and the young fellas see a strong culture, a winning club and will want to hang around to earn their spot and be part of it. It also means we don't have to sweeten the deal with a top 30 and you get more time to actually identify whether or not they can make the jump to 1st grade.

This is spot on. We were regularly winning games up until a couple of weeks ago too. Unfortunately, we're going through a proper injury crisis at the moment and the last couple of results reflect that. Fingers crossed we start hammering teams again when the troops return.

With all the banging on about how good Madden was with Doueihi - Dunno why Luai wasn’t moved to 9.
It doesn’t even seem like it might be an option?
Decent defender, decent size body and he’s not here next year anyhow.

Don’t know he’s done enough in the halves to hold his spot indefinitely…
I don't see this ever happening.

If someone goes past you now how do you tackle them ?

How do you chase a winger down ?

Maybe it should but like tag when the player gets past you it's just a tag on the back ?
Maybe make the Trip a fair tackle, if a player gets to a position where the only option you have could possibly end as a hip drop, rather than take that risk ? Just trip them,

Rugby League has lived with the hipdrop for well over 100 years,
So too Shoulder & H/high, why did anything need to change. ??????????????
