Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

He ain’t going to get better if he’s not playing in his spot , if not 1st grade then he must play nsw cup
I agree. I feel he's also low on confidence.

I remember that Benji had some horrific shoulder injuries early in his career, but he bounced back. If there's any coach who can help his development, it's Benji.

I wouldn't spend much at all on Averillo if it's to play first grade, it just shows how far we are behind the Dolphins if we do, he's a reserve grade player.

Save the cash and hopefully buy someone with quality, if not this year, the following year. How much is Richard Penisini asking? Unlikely but someone with real potential

Bit of a worry when you hear all the other clubs initially interested then dropping off.
Wonder what the real story is there?
Length of deal?
Price?
Anything else?
Maybe they thought they were being played & they figured he really wanted to play under Benji his childhood hero

One thing people on here keep banging on about is defence.
And how a very large majority of players we are linked to are
a liability in defence.
Yet you look at Toa , for example , whom we know is not the best defender ,
yet he pulls off a try saving tackle like he did the other night.
Yes , sure , i get it , some are not as good defenders as others , but on the day and in the moment
they do their best. Sometimes they pull it off and other times they just dont. Its the nature of the game.
None will ever be 100%.
So , to say , we dont want player X because his defence isnt up to scratch is abit much , because he might be in a position to offer us something different.

I get it for now but medium term we have attard, Latu, solo, brooks, glassie, Andrew’s who all could adapt to a centre/wing role. Averillo is average hence why he’s not starting for the tunas! Would rather we locked up our good juniors with more upside. Just don’t like significant moneys! But I guess with bunji we trust.
But this in itself is an issue. Everything about this club is on the never never. Guys come through but there’s a shinier model playing Flegg or Ball. Hopefully these guys come good and Averillo is shuffled back to the Reggies at the backend of his contract. Right now we can barely put together a backline and this guy plays pretty much every position. He’s a cover for Bula, probably our second or third best centre, a 5/8 option.
He’s not starting with the Dolphins because he’s injured. Before then he played every game and most of the previous two seasons… it’s not because he’s “average”.

Likely some Muppet with no idea has written the article. They are under pressure to get things out so quickly that the stories barely get checked anymore

Yep. This 5/8 talk is a classic example of an imbecile journo putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 92.35672

I don’t think Toa is being called out for not being the perfect tackler. The issue is his commitment and desire to defend hard for his teammates

We desperately need some speed that can take advantage of the work done by our 9 6 and 7, Averillo gives you that. Throw in he covers all backline positions bar maybe 7 and can kick goals. Sure there are better centres around, but they are not off contract and if they were would most likely not come to us.

As for replacing Luai in 2028, we already have the player in reserve grade. Javon Andrews is a unbelievably good player who will be cherry ripe by 2028

Hey TT
There was a saying when I was a young bloke playing juniors,
IF you can’t tackle you can’t play.
If you’re playing in the top grade you are expected to hold your own in defence not making 1 tackle while missing the next 2.
