Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

They want money from poker machines to buy more poker machines to make more money to buy more poker machines.....

That's it. That's all they care about. Everything else gets lip service.

Actions speak louder than words. Their actions, for a long time, are loud and clear. See first paragraph.

It's not good enough. We need owners who genuinely want us to succeed and invest accordingly. They have the money. It's there in the bank account. It's just not an immediate revenue generating expenditure like poker machines are.

I'm also fairly certain that Wests Ashfield don't even fund the Wests Magpies in junior reps. Only the NSW cup side and Balmain juniors reps.
I wonder how Balmain leagues club will operate once going. No pokies only beer takings to give to wts.

Dogs are pulling in kids - from literally everywhere…
Qld, out west, mid north coast - everywhere. Housing them, getting them going - as you say, stockpiling them and letting the best come to the front naturally…
Gus said on his podcast
- can never have enough good young kids, and signing new ones never stops (or words to that effect)

We have pages and pages on Attard - he’s here, because he’s been superseded. That might not be clear to all just yet, but it’d be the reason he’s here - no doubt.

Kids like Miller, Mason, Kit even Galvin to an extent should be making our lower grades look like the best place to be at the moment. But there’s no money for them down there - so they’re promoted and then discarded, mostly because they’re not ready and we’re not getting value for money.
8 blokes isn’t enough to run the amount of ground we cover and recruit effectively into junior reps and we’re doing it with much less than that.
It’s not 2002 anymore.
Yes the word is at West Tigers is we rush them through without properly developing them.
We made promises to Galvin and his family and where did that get us.

Parents and/or agent thought they knew better and pushed for NRL before he weas ready - admittedly, I was excited when I saw him play for us and was impressed with his fitness and defence for someone so young. In saying that we were pretty desperate for some attacking spark after 3 wooden spoons, but another season or two in Cup would have done him the world of good.

Tip of the hat to @Tucker who stayed staunch on Galvin not being ready. He was right about that - it seems to be playing out at the Bulldogs even more than our club now that teams have had a chance to do video on him and pick apart his weaknesses.

The lesson for us is parents, players and managers that don't trust the development plan are more than likely just trying to get their player in the shop window - The Galvin camp always found something to complain about and because every complaint was made so public, it makes sense in hindsight that this just is done to dog whistle other clubs and get offers while under contract. A decent manager would have kept these issues private. Perhaps we thought if he fails, the club would be vindicated in holding him back and the noise would quieten down and his camp would see that he is not ready...we'll never know...just one theory of many.

Quite possible because ex Tigers do some times have a habit of improving after they leave.
But not ALL.

No NRL club has got a record as good as our with releasing/not resigning players.

Very, very few have come back to bite us or improved much once leaving us.
In 10 years the only guy to make big improvement after leaving is Jeremy Marshall King (eventually)
We haven't been burnt by anyone.

Some juniors without first grade experience, yes, but that is the same with every club.
