Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

10 day cooling off period for a contract lodged on the 9th would mean the cooling off period ends on the 22nd.

The media was reporting as early as the 3rd or 4th that the deal was signed … maybe they got it wrong …

do we know for certain they have lodged the contract though ? I take nothing for granted with this club,,,

Someone posted part of a Toohey (I believe) article which includes advice the Knights are not re-signing Schiller.

Schiller is one of those players with all the attributes to be a great winger - good pace, size and evasion but in the games I've watched him play for the Knights, has that error in him at critical times. Handling is an issue.
He consistently proves he is far too good for NSW Cup. Those who show that over an extended period, generally bring that form to NRL sooner than later once they are given a decent opportunity.
In addition to being great right wing cover for Turuva, he would also be a very good back up right centre option.
I don’t think Skelton will hang around if we are only wanting him as a back up. If that’s the case we still need a very good left wing option to keep Makasini on his toes and I think Sione Finau would be perfect with his proven height, size, speed and athleticism.

Rubbish…
They call them the gods of state cup for a reason.

There’s the guys that are too good for state cup - then there’s a gap,
then there’s NRL players.

There’s not enough players, and far too much media for clubs to hide gems in reserve grade these days…
It’s not 2008.

I like Shiller, always have - but he’s behind Marzhew for a reason.
(And I don’t rate Marzhew)

V, Sione isn’t off contract he only just moved to Canberra this year?
He signed a 3 year deal with them.

Doing my best to give us an estimated salary cap position for 2027.

Based on my estimates and factoring in Averillo coming in & contract re-structure for Samuela, we will have 7 roster spots available with only $150-$200k to spend on each (so depth pieces only).

What is clear on these estimates ... to recruit a Shawn Blore or player of similar ilk on $400k+, we will need to offload at least 1 player with Hunt & To'a arguably the most likely.

My estimates are in the Roster Breakdown thread.

Be interesting to see who gets those minimum contracts

Is he a better player than Tavana ? Only 2 years difference in age and Schiller is much taller, bigger, stronger, faster and just as good if not better in the air.

I'd be lying if I said we knew for certain if or when it was lodged, but so would anybody. @kade7 mentioned the Tuesday after the public holiday, I'd say he has been pretty spot on so far from what I've seen.

Brent Read reported that the deal was signed on the 4th. If it was AND the deal was lodged with the NRL on the same day, then the 10 day cooling off period is over as of today.

Timing of media announcements also matter. Announcing Averillo after the result is a net positive either way for the club. After a loss, we are still at a 50% W/L record, the fans get good news, and the team knows they'll have another capable first grader on the way.

After a win, we are closer to a 60% W/L record and enter an 8 round stretch where we only play teams we have already beaten this year, the Dragons twice, and a bye. An announcement here could be even more beneficial.

Knights
Dragons
Warriors
Bulldogs
Raiders
Eels
Bye
Dragons
