Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Lol, we have a bottom 4 roster. Our top 17 if fit all season might be able to finish 9th.

But as we don't even have 18 first graders at the club is uttered absurd to think we're remotely close to finals. The dragons are much, much closer to playing finals than we are
What a load of crap .

Looks like we are interested on Moses Leota....a real good chance too I might add with the Broncos Bears Chiefs Dolphins and Roosters also expressing interest
The only chance we would have with Moses Leota is if he wants to stay in western Sydney and we get him from next season. No way we could match the $$$.

The other possible is still Spencer Leniu if Roosters can contribute. Leniu, whilst discipline is an issue, would bring much needed aggression & mongrel to our pack and could form a formidable prop rotation punch with Fonua Pole, with Terrell & Twal being the grunt.

For a club who recently finished with 3 wooden spoons, those positive recruits I listed are not near enough.
Our current playing roster is still bottom 4 and despite some strange decision making and coaching decisions from Benji along the way, he over achieved with the position we were in after 10 rounds this season.
We are now where we deserve to be based on our playing roster, so it should be quite clear to you that we need to make some tough, hard decisions to improve our playing roster ASAP ?
Unfortunately we have missed the boat and there are now hardly any players that can improve us for 2027, except a couple of quality depth options, however there is still plenty of quality currently available for 2028.
So is your point really that the recruits aren't bad...more that our recruitment is incomplete?

I can agree on that point and depth has proven to be our downfall this year.

I think we have locked up our core squad that will be around for the next 3-5 years.

Now it's a matter of balancing the juniors coming through and new signings as they become available.

There is a 20th team to come as well...I dare say recruitment is going to be much harder going forward competing with 20 teams for talent. It's easy to pluck names, but signing them is a different matter.

Do we have any props coming through juniors?

Good teams have strike power. At full strength we are a solid meat and potato standard NRL team but nothing that would have the better sides worried. Been saying it for years we lack the X factor player and there is non on the horizon. Andrew’s looks all class but he is not going to break a game open and run the length of the field. In PVL football you need speed and flair

For sh*ts & giggles, I have rated my top 15 prospects in the club aged 18 to 20 years.

Disclaimer - have watched most Magpies & Tigers junior reps, Flegg & Cup games past 2 seasons (thanks to Bar TV). Age turning this year in brackets.

1 Haemasi Makasini (19)
2 Jared Haywood (20)
3 Javon Andrews (20)
4 Christian Taupau-Moors (19)
5 Glassie Glassie (19)
6 Siotame Havea Jr (18)
7 Archie Duncombe (20)
8 Jack Attard (20)
9 Pheonix Godinet (19)
10 Blake Van Drie (19)
11 James Lanyon (18)
12
Isaak Perkins (18)
13 Filipe Huahulu (19)
14 Logan Brookes (20)
15 Christian Azzi (18)

Hard to rank them - two have dropped in my mind this season are Godinet & Brookes but could easily catapult back up with a really good month of footy.

Then in terms of those turning 17, Kingston Finau, Iszac Isdale & Thomas Aroyan are top 3 at this stage.

Leniu is apparently really.closr to joining parramatta

I watched Jersey Flegg live on Sunday. I was disappointed in Pheonix Godinet. Lack of involvement in attack, got beaten laterally in defence a few times, looked unfit and showed a lack of interest. Both front rowers impressed me as did the centre Xavier Tauaifaiga

It’s funny that some people who often state we lack size on our forwards, but then state we need to sign Spencer Leniu.
Leniu is short and on the smaller side of NRL props, but made up for it with his high speed, aggressive ball carries.
That has rarely been happening this season and probably the reason the Roosters no longer want him.
Moses Leota is much bigger and never plays a bad game, so a player like him would be great to have, but when you consider he is only available from 2028 when he will be 32y.o and likely be looking for a big money deal, would he provide enough value for his contract value which would limit our ability to spend in other areas ?
