Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Jock Madden is from the Hunter region, but good recruitment from Wests Tigers at that time got him to our club as a talented young junior representative player.
Out of your list 2 have already departed as of 2027.
5 are currently unsigned for 2027 and most if not all are very unlikely to be resigned.
2 of them being Adam Doueihi and Fonua Pole are thriving and currently very important parts of our NRL team, although we are now seeing some of our fans turn on Adam Doueihi.
Alex Seyfarth is also a current t NRL regular, but not wanted by many of our fans and there were rumours not so long ago that he was being shopped around.
2 of them being Heamasi Makasini and Jared Haywood are emerging as likely NRL regulars for the foreseeable future.
Josese Lanyon and Tino Tavana have made their NRL debuts this season and are locked in for 2027, but are yet to establish themselves as NRL regulars for 2027 and beyond.
What are we going to classify as pathways? What age?

The younger you go, the more that will go missing. Parents move kids around to lots of clubs at a young age to get them a start.

Put the parameters around it...if you're hoping for kids from the age of 6 through to first grade then you're unlikely to see that many you would consider "pathways".

Seyfarth is a Dundas Shamrocks junior.

Broederlow is a Bulldogs junior who joined Balmain in Ball.

Haywood is a Penrith junior who joined Balmain in Matts.

Madden is a Knights junior who I believe went straight into our KOE team.

Pole is a Storm junior who joined Balmain in Ball.

Lanyon is a Dogs junior who went straight into our Flegg team.
How far are we going to consider them as a junior? Harold Matts is 16 years old mate.

What do you consider a pathways player and what do you consider a junior player?

What do we do with Javon?

He has a lot of potential, and he's still only 19. His Cup stats this year are looking pretty impressive.

- Games: 14
- Tries: 5
- Goals: 46
- Points: 112
- Try assists: 17
- Line-break assists: 18
- Offloads: 20
- Tackles made: 186
- Tackle efficiency: 83.4%
- Running metres: 976 (69.0 per game)
- Kicking metres: 1,789 (127.8 per game)
- Goal-kicking accuracy: 70.8%

His stats are better than Latu's when he was at Blacktown Workers, and Jamie Humphreys were even better when he was playing in the halves at the Workers too.

Ezra Mam is a great player, you don’t score 3 tries in one Grand Final and be in the top 3 players in a 2nd Grand Final if you are no good.
But 5/8 is the one position we are extremely well covered, it is the last position we need to worry about and probably the reason Benji saw the light and thought why are we paying Luai 1.2 million per season.

My question is how young do you want to go to consider them a "pathways" player
Does it matter?

Sure we have our junior team and little kids who play for the Berala Bears or whatever have a club logo on their shirt.
We have Api and AD or whoever's bored do some training with them occasionally at Lidcombe oval.

They leave, they stay... It doesn't matter that much. The key point is that the 'junior' has some positive association with the club.

Ideally we have the next GI, Cronk and Payne Haas stay with this club from Juniors to 35. It ain't happening, people will move around. It's actually a good thing as the guys experience other coaches and different playing techniques.

Far more important is that the experience here is quality and that way when their contract comes up for renewal, we get a sympathetic lookin.

Ofcourse I want the next GI to stay at our club forever. It won't happen, so who we get in our orbit make it a quality experience.

We give him exposure to first grade asap and continue to develop him from there
