No way Max Taotua is on a top 30 contract Kade, doesn't pass the common sense test.

Firstly, his agent announced his extension was a 'full-time NRL contract'. That typically means it's either a Dev contract or ft T&T as they would spruik top 30 at every opportunity if it was.

Secondly, the club has moved away from the "Will Craig" speculative top 30 deals now. Max was on a pre-season T&T this season so will likely move the step up to probably a Development deal in '27.

Pheonix & Christian T-M are different stories. Both rep level players who we secured close to 1.5 years ago on long-term deals with progression included to be able to retain them. I believe both have already moved from T&T to Dev deals mid-season, so next step is into Top 30 next season.

I do think Benji will keep a top 30 spot or 2 free (as he usually does) for Schuster if he brains it in the pre-season & trials.

I was never comfortable with his initial appointment, let alone his extension.

He has never coached ever and was never known for his strategic footy genius. How was he going to succeed at the top level?

He has proved excellent in the media under pressure and somewhat with recruitment but douehi gate in particular highlights his lacking. Also surrounding himself with the old boys rather than picking talent for his support. Perhaps his hands are tied but we need to change direction asap.

I hope the Bula injury is genuinely restricting him.

Otherwise, it is the fastest decline in player quality I have ever seen post signing a contract.

He hasn't broken the line, created an overlap, supported a midfield offload or made an effective defensive play in weeks. Most concerningly he has been out of position numerous times and rarely creates opportunity for those around him.

I was a big Bula defender and really believed in his growth trajectory, so I hope it is the injury. But I have seen plenty of players drop in quality after receiving financial security.

I remember i think at the start of last year he was out and we struugled and then he returned and he reinvigorated our attack.

Ok so we just continue to pay the likes of Terrell May massive money to run the ball at less than half pace, back into the defence and rely on blokes who are not even standing out in the lower grades to fill the void when we get injuries.
Let’s see how that works out.

He's currently a good depth prop. If he's being played as a prop & developed more into a prop in the pre-season, I think he could be a very valuable player for us.

Be disappointing to lose someone with such regarded work ethic, passion & effort tbh and one of our local juniors.

Like anything in this money ball competition, it would depend who would come in to take his spot. A Jaidyn Hunt or Kurt Mann on 50% of Seyfarth's contract or potentially a Tyson Frizell for 2 years. And earmark an Archie Duncombe or Vaka Aho to be a similar type that we promote to a Dev.

Anyway all speculation atm. Hope he doesn't go.
