Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We ignore good ball runners such as Samuela Fainu because we don’t have a left sided halve of fullback with the class to really bring them into play on a regular basis.
That along with too many sluggish players such as Terrell who take half an hour to play the ball and don’t allow us to play on the front foot.
I know almost everyone with laugh at this comment based on status in the game and NRL experience, but Javon Andrews is way ahead of Luai in terms of deception with ball in hand, ability to square up the defence, bring his ball runners onto the ball and put them through gaps.
Agree with you re Javon, he is much more deceptive with ball in hand and he can also slow down and speed up more than Luai can. Luai is a bit more of a jack in the box type player, he can disrupt a defensive line with his running style, if you watch the games at Penrith he would often do this and then Kikau would run a line or he would pass it back to Cleary who would then take advantage. Cleary would throw it out to Luai if they were struggling to break down the defense. Our team is not set up to use Luai in this way, we needed him to be dominant and not just the go to for some chaos in an otherwise structured attack.

You can see the players that naturally create space. Luai is not one of them. Javon is.

John Hopoate has a post up on Facebook insinuating the alleged rape by the 3 x St Gregs boys involves Wests Tigers pathways/Western Suburbs Magpies aligned players. He has named Wests and has the Wests Tigers logo on his post. Although the post seems more about racism and nepotism and that these boys are being protected.
Feel for the victim who is a woman.

Has a set out for the club ever since Richo was here. What was that about again? Didn't invite him to a function or asked him to leave one or something?

I dunno about that, I think Brimson is massively overrated. He has his good games, but more often he’s just average, imo.
Hasn’t ever really played in a good side…
Pretty sure he was man of the match in an origin going back - if he wasn’t, he should have been…
He looks a little short of average for his age defensively. Definitely something he needs to work hard on. With his bigger frame im sure he will get to being a competent defensive half. Thats if we get some decent coaches in
was gonna say, if he’s going to learn to tackle - it won’t be here at Wests Tigers. Although Brooks got there in the end

At least Terry Lamb thought it was funny, but the club sacked him over the finger poking some years ago well before Richo arrived.
Just another example of our poor culture.

I get the niggling and taunting. It was clear at times during the World Cup, with players covering their mouths when they spoke, and it will be enforced in all football matches going forward.

I guarantee our game will become homogenised too.

Brimson is good but I am shocked anyone is throwing up signing any backs at the moment with our sub-average forward pack. I already believe we would have more money tied up in backs than most clubs (Bula, Turuva, Averillo, May, Makasini) are on all decent sized contracts. Then when you throw in we have Junior Tupou, Tavana and maybe Herbert, I think our outside backs stocks are okay. I can't see how we can entertain any more backs until we have 2-3 forwards.

The difference between Turuva being out and say Tavana being in is not that massive (in some weeks it may even be better), but the difference between say KPP being out, and bringing in guys like Sukkar (or Sione Fainu in the 2RF) is ginormous....or even worse, just playing our whole forwards for huge mins cause Benji doesn't obviously rate any of the back up options.

The thing is, our forward pack at full strength this year dominated teams. I would definitely like to add one quality forward if possible, and I dont really care what position. Lock, front row or edge, doesnt matter. However, with the right mindset, our boys showed they have it in them. Its all about maintaining that rage.
That being said, I would go big for Hudson Young and seriously think about playing him lock. His leg sppeed through the middle, ball playing and toughness would be a revelation IMO. That being said, happy to move Sam or KPP to the middle for him to stay on an edge too. Ideally Sam would move to the middle.

Unfortunately I think the chance of us getting a Young, Preston, Leota or Martin are slim to none.

Bunty has shown some signs and I thought he was very good last week. We need more out of him, and obviously we need to change how Terrell approaches his footy. We need a coach that is going to insist on Terrell just running as hard as he can for shorter stints.

Think hes an out and out fullback...but never gets to play there
Hes on $950,so the only suitors will be Perth and PNG..and he will have to take a haircut
Its so long since weve seen a fully fit Bula nor a Brimson playing in position..so hard to judge.
But if Brimson was allowed to negotaiate 2 months ago or so we mite not have paid Bula $900k plus

2 weeks ago Averillo played fullback in QLD Cup, and last week he was moved from there to accommodate Fuller. If he’s better than a top 12 fullback that doesn’t happen.

I don’t disagree with him being about the 12th best fullback but are any of the 11 fullbacks you have above him coming to the club next year? If not, then how does he lose his spot?
Because Fuller cant play anywhere else, Averillo can.

I would hazard a guess with Javon likely being brought through he will likely play on the left and Sam will get plenty of ball through him.

I still think we need another high quality second rower though. We only had either or both our second rowers 58% of the time this season and it was patently obvious when they weren't there. Unless we can find a good young second rower being held back from first grade somewhere I would like to see us sign something like a Young or Martin although having three second rowers taking up $2-2.5m between them probably isn't ideal.
It's ideal if you get either of those 2.
