Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Yep Knights just don’t have the roster spot to fit Friz in at the moment

Trying to move Matt Arthur on

Looks like Knights & their fans want to keep him even with all their good backrowers + Nikoure coming, but not good enough for here apparently lol
Surprised Friz wants to leave Newcastle his wife has a great on line business that is doing very well, not short of dollars.

Latu all over again. I think he’s a stud on his day but availability is your best ability.

if Isaah Yeo and/or Liam Martin end up going to free agency we need to offer them the house. doesn’t matter what it takes.

others I’d be looking at come November 1:

Tallis Duncan
Luron Patea
Xavier Willison
Jack Williams
Jack Bostock
Fletcher Hunt
Duncan thought deal almost done with Bunnies
Bostock wants to stay at Dolphins
Williams will move if Parra sign Martin

I have not met the guy, so hate is a little strong, but I don’t like is tenure as NRL CEO, his second part time job. And I’m hanging onto my wallet tightly if he was around. just my view Tom, he looks and sounds like a shonky used car salesman but he found a piss weak NRL to play with and from what I can see he is messing with it.
Sorry but you need a few corrections, and I say this not as a PVL booster.

He's not NRL CEO, that was Abdo. He's Chairman of the ARLC. Currently he's Interim Executive Chairman, absorbing some CEO duties until the confirm a CEO replacement. And yes the replacement might be him. He's also on leave from Racing NSW during this time, so he is actually fully allocated to the NRL.

Board members are typically not full-time, so it's not unreasonable to only have part of his time. I don't believe any of the ARLC Commissioners are full-time.

Whatever you think personally about PVL's dealings, he's certainly shrewd. It's not like he gets everything right but since he's been in charge the NRL has grown and continued to make more and more money.

For example the average operating margin for the NRL, excluding 2020 COVID, for the 5 years prior to PVL is 1.63%. The average of PVL's last 5 years is 8.35%. This is despite a reduce TV rights deal struck during the pandemic, covering 2022-2027. The operating margin may be even greater with the record deal from 2028 onwards.

So actually I was a big sceptic of PVL when he started, because I knew of him back from the Harold Park racing days (he was CEO of NSW Harness Racing for 17 years). He was known to be pretty ruthless back then - he had run-ins with local sports groups over his plans to expand and eventually sell the Harold Park land.

My current position however is I think he's a better person to have working for you than against you. He clearly knows the right people and I think his shabby appearance (at times) lends to him being under-estimated. I am certain the AFL are very wary of him. My criticism is I think PVL should be less involved in brain-storming the product, e.g. rule changes, and focus more on selling and expanding the business.

But he has runs on the board, it cannot be argued otherwise.

Lastly, in terms of being shady or well-connected, that's always been a key component of the NRL / ARL / NSWRL. Especially the NSWRL, they were often dodgy as and heavily tied into political heavyweights.

JESUS,

WEVE SIGNED JUST ONE PLAYER WITH FIRST GRADE ABILITY,
FROM A CLUB THAT USED HIM AS A BENCH PLAYER.

AND FROM WHAT WE ARE TOLD WE ARE PAYING HIM ANYTHING FROM BETWEEN $600,000 TO $750,000 A SEASON.

AND THE ONLY OTHER SIGNINGS HAVE BEEN 30YR OLDS WITH USE BY ALMOST UP THAT ARE ONLY USED BY CURRENT CLUBS AS THERE IN CASE OF EMERGENCY BENCH PLAYERS
THAT COST SWEET F/A.

OR JUNIORS WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR UP TO 2 OR 3 YEARS BEFORE THEY "MIGHT" BE POSSIBLY OK FOR THE TOP GRADE, AGAIN COST SWEET F/A.

I WILL BE DEAD BEFORE WE MAKE THE 8.

THINK I MAY START TO SUPPORT A DIFFERENT CLUB WHO HAVE MONEY TO BE ABLE TO PURCHASE DECENT PLAYERS.
I can't hear you

I don't see the hate for mann tbh. He is a solid first grader
Nothing flash but would easily make our side. Very consistent and would add another utility to averillo that can cover alot of spots. Imo that was a massive weakness this year with us having to shuffle our line up weekly due to not having someone to alot into a needed spot
Too old is my concern. He'll be 34 start of next season and I worry about a guy like that, a tough guy hard worker who takes hit-ups, one significant injury and that's it - the recovery becomes increasingly difficult.

A 1 or 2 year deal max, maybe.

Yep.
Not to sure what an o.g hat is but yeah I still got it. I can’t throw anything Tigers out. Or magpies.
The first thing signed for a tigers supporter. Cant imagine anyone else got a signature befor you got your hat signed at his presser when he announced he was leaving Penrith for us.

Even if he wasn't talking you don't think there'd be people taking photos of him in PNG? They love rugby league over there and are crazy over seeing celebs or stars and treat them like gods. I'd argue even without talking he'd still cop it for going there. Not much about AJ who has third party deals there as well as Cooper Bai
I dont mean talking as in promoting going to P.N.G, i mean all the garbage he spews online then has a whinge when he gets a bit of a clap back.

Yep. It was first. One of his crew made a thing of it at the time. I’ve still got it with all my others. It’s still a good reminder I had a good week in between ops that trip to Sydney test, won at the casino, and they upgraded our room, Steve Waugh brushed me at the cricket with that hat the day before Romy signed it. So I probably won’t burn it.
