Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Upgrade on Madden imo & similar game managing type.
Jock was doing my head in tonight,, he tries, but Jesus he cannot win a tackle, seems unable to do a legs tackle and bounces off almost every time, and seems unable to stick and then watches them run away,,, so annoying plus he seems to submit when he runs, has no intent to get through the line and make a solo run where he makes the defence have to tackle him,,,, just to predictable and lacks confidence

Until the club significantly boosts the funding and resourcing of talent identification, recruitment and development, the results will be the same. When is the last time we recruited a junior centre of the calibre of young Mclean from NZ?

You may be surprised what 2 youngsters can do. The modern day game is very different. Kids these days dont give a stuff, they have no fear and are much more likely to play their natural game if paired with another youngster.
That would only work if they had a pack prepared to kill for them and a pair of centres who run awesome lines all day.

Well our pack killed for the start if the year. They just need to stay fit and continue to do it for longer. And if Taylan and Averillo stay fit, they have the centres to take advantage of any space created. The nucleus is there. We just need a coach a good luck.

The Fainu bros appear to have had an excellent schooling in rugby league. It was on show today and has been throughout the season when they play. Does anyone question why they appear to be more NRL ready than some of our own home-grown talent despite being young men?

I think the intelligence of their kicking games is the main concern and it would be much better if we can find that genuine 1st receiver who is a running threat to assist.
As most of us keep saying, AD would be perfect if he has the right mindset and commmirs to defending strong even under fatigue and that is the part myself and many other doubt he will be willing or able to do.
AD is not a first receiver. Forget his selfish play style (and personality) and unwillingness to defend. There is nuance in ball playing at first receiver, it is not simply shovelling onto someone wider of the ruck. AD has shown in his time as a halfback he doesn't have the nuance to be an effective ball player at lock.
This isn't me hating on the bloke. Sure, I don't want him at the club and haven't liked him for years but he can be a very effective 6 or centre with the right play style.
He is a power runner. I could see him be an effective running forward at lock but not a ball playing lock.

I would say because they are just naturally better. Latu has always been a freak and Sam has always been a gun.

Absolutely agree. AD at lock just continues stifle our attack because his first receiver play is terrible and his ego to be the main man is detrimental.

I agree. Do you believe we need to do far better with talent identification ie beating other clubs to signing the best of juniors? This is not a criticism of our recruitment staff, other than to say we need more resourcing in that area.

winning games beats any what ever rebuild, but

sounds like the Jamie Soward ,Wayne Benett school of thought

Did he do any better with Latu?

We currently have the likes of Twal and Seyfarth playing 13 and basically the only players we are using as that 1st receiver link style of players.
They are both doing an admirable job, but Doueihi using his power ball running and mixing that up as a 1st receiver/distributor type of role would still be much slicker and more effective than what we currently have.

Definitely. We need to be searching everywhere for young talent and bring them in as young as possible

I think Skelton should be offered another contract. There’s def something there as a solid winger, or for depth. If he can work on his defensive reads, maybe with a proper defensive coach, he can have a great 2027.
No thanks. Will be almoat 28 at start of next season and has no idea in defence. Cup contract at beat

You expect too much. He’s a fringe first grader at best. Tbf though, the way the coaching staff have persisted with him this year, it’s their fault expectations on him are as high as they are.
