Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Out of interest ,..did you watch our team go 3-14 over the last 17 games of the year …?
Yes and as I keep saying lack of speed, both out wide and in the forwards was a big contributor for those poor results.
You need someone who can carry the ball at speed and be a genuine line break threat in the middle or on the edges, we just think we can rely on power tj trample opponents which only ever happens from Samuela on occasions, Pole on occasions and Royce Hunt on occasions.
KP when playing helps with his size, speed and offload ability, but we need him running onto the ball at speed like he was doing early in the season. He had already fallen slightly into plodder mode shortly before his season ending injury.

Tupou and Makasini on the left, Turuva & Tavana on the right with Saukuru also a wing option
So 5 wing options and not one of them fast enough to score a long range try?
All 5 have a bit of speed over 30-40 metres at best and 4 of them, maybe not so much Turuva are easily burned for speed when defending any opposing winger with genuine speed.
When we talk about depth surely we are covering all bases and ensuring we have a mix of wingers who are good with their yardage out of our danger zone with at least one who is a genuine threat of outpacing our opposition if we look for an early wide shift?

They will be next to Averillo & May

Someone who may be available is Jaylen De Groot from the Titans who is very quick and can cover fullback, wing & centre. If Titans end up securing Sebastian Kris, then De Groot is probably the fall guy and we should be 1st in line. I'd rather Kris though for his experience.

Kris or Skelton for you mate?

Part of me thinks maybe our best bet is to go all-in on 6 Javon Andrews 7 Latu Fainu with an experienced 13 to help them with direction & leadership. This could be a rotational combo of Doeuihi with Kurt Mann.

If AD departs, then bring in O'Sullivan as another experienced back-up half along with Madden to be a mentor as well. Then have a lock rotation of Mann/Twal/Seyfarth/Brailey.
Expanding on this I think Latu & Javon would an amazing combo.

I think being the main man and leader out of the 2 will bring Latu out of his shell as the main caller. He looks like he goes into his shell when he has an older, more extroverted personality next to him like Luai, AD even Madden to a lesser extent.

Kris by the length of the Flemington straight. Skelton cannot jump & regularly makes poor defensive decisions, Yes he is good out of yardage and can finish when 1-on-1 but most wingers should tbh.
Yeah, suppose he has been value for money.

His fend on Jenkins was enjoyable. And Herbert’s accidental elbow to the nose lol

Seb Kris - May - Alverilllo - Turuva = this would be strong
Let’s go buy Seb and a second rower and a nasty prop and O’Sullivan
Should help and pressure these homplayed this year
I an very keen on the Seb Kris possibility.
He has plenty of faults, he seems to come up with a handling errors in basic collision more often than he should and he’s not known on being a great defender, but he is an experienced, well performed NRL player who has x-factor with his size, power and athletic aerial ability.
We have missed the boat in regards any nasty props for 2027, the best we can hope for is the ageing Tyson Frizell or Toby Rudolph who o think would be a better option.
I think Sean O’Sullivan would be a good addition with his vocalness, leadership and experience, but I’ve heard it mentioned we are only paying Jock Madden 100k for next season with the Broncos chipping in the rest.
If this is correct it would be hard to offload him for a similar and only slightly better player who we would have to pay full value for, from a salary cap point of view.
They’re are absolutely no decent second rowers with NRL experience available for 2027 and as someone else mentioned no good quality proven second rowers are coming here to be stuck behind Samuela and KPP.
I was again impressed with the powerful ball running of Ethan Roberts yesterday, I think we potentially have a genuine strike weapon with him, we just need to get him extricate improve his defence.
Don’t discount him as an option at 13 either.
Hoping we also keep Tony Sukkar who made good strides forward this season.
I think we need a faster, more athletic style of edge forward as an option and pointing difference.
I have mentioned Tommy Talau as an option if he was keen to make a positional change from the backs to being a second rower and I like the highlights of a player @BlackWhiteGold identified from the Qld Cup Tane Kiriona.

Sone smart recruitment could make us highly competitive next season.

He has plenty of speed, a bit of height and as you say he also has versatility.
He is still young and has plenty of upside, but is yet another who is an iffy defender.
We could do a lot worse than signing him as a depth back up with the potential to play well enough to demand a spot in our starting team.

I think Doueihi would be quite unique in the #13 role but it's up to him & his intent. He could provide a combination of a hard, straight running forward who can break tackles & offload combined as a second #1 who can float and provide a sweeper. He's got the arsenal, it's whether he has the commitment & resolve to become a lock.
All great attributes, but no mention of the other side of the ball. His defence has improved at 7 but that doesn’t translate into a solid 13 defensively. Whilst he could do a Yeo style 13 in attack he appears reluctant to let go of the ball.
